University of ParisFounded in the mid 11th century
Faculties Art, Medicine,Law, and TheologyThe Faculty of Arts was the lowest
rank, but had had the biggest student population. Students had to graduate
from the arts to be admitted into a higher faculty.
NationsThe students were divided into four nations according to their language or regional origin: France, Normandy, Picardy, and England. The German (Alemannian) nation was later added. The faculty and nation system eventually became the model for all medieval universities.
StudentsStudents often times rebelled against the laws and had to appeal to Church courts. The students at the University
of Paris were very young and sometimes beginning school at 13
years of age.
