University of ParisFounded in the mid 11th century

Faculties Art, Medicine,Law, and TheologyThe Faculty of Arts was the lowest

rank, but had had the biggest student population. Students had to graduate

from the arts to be admitted into a higher faculty.

NationsThe students were divided into four nations according to their language or regional origin: France, Normandy, Picardy, and England. The German (Alemannian) nation was later added. The faculty and nation system eventually became the model for all medieval universities.

StudentsStudents often times rebelled against the laws and had to appeal to Church courts. The students at the University

of Paris were very young and sometimes beginning school at 13

years of age.

Civil GovernmentIn the 15th century, the university saw a need for various modifications. The reform of 1600
