WEATHERING

RI for CSP are large-area premises with “outdoor” labs

- Strong thermal and photonic cycling- Hurricanes and hail- Snow and heavy electric storms

PSA, Almeria

PROMES, Odeillo

Page 12: CSP Research Infrastructures Worldwide ETH-PSI (CH) SunLab (US) WIS (IL) SEGS (US) PSA (E) CSIRO (AUS) WIS (IL) CNRS (F) DLR (D)

- Facilities 20-30 years old

- Mirror corrosion, breakage and replacement in concentrating fields

-Lack of spare parts and unavailability of tracking systems

-Control systems out-of-date

-New technological demands and challenges to be covered (DSG, gas turbines, advanced receivers, heat storage, hydrogen, )

OBSOLESCENCE

Large facilities: The PSA example

The PSA extends over a 103-Hectare estate

79.43 Ha are surrounded by a 4,060-m long metal fence and the rest is delimited by trapezoidal topographic landmarks.

The estate has a 3.1-km paved road infrastructure and 6.2 km of dirt roads.

The electrical infrastructure is made up of a 25,000-V network fed by three transformation centres for power consumption (present) of about 350 kW to 2,000 kW

The building infrastructure is comprised of 13 test facilities and 38 buildings of which 8 are for offices and control rooms, 10 are general, and the rest are associated with project facilities, such as towers, water treatment plants, solar furnace, laboratories, etc.
