Limited WarrantyQuantronix New Product

StatementofWarranty.Quantronix,Inc.’s,warrantyobligationsarelimitedtothetermssetforthbelow:Quantronix(hereinafterreferredtoasthe“Seller”)warrantsthatitsnewproductisinaccordancewithSeller’spublishedspecifications(orthoseagreeduponwithBuyerinwriting)atthetimeofsaleorleaseandthatitisfreefromdefectsinmaterialsandworkmanshipundernormaluseforaperiodofone(1)yearfromthedateofsaleorthecommencementdateunderawrittenequipmentleaseorrentalagreement(the“WarrantyPeriod”).IfahardwaredefectarisesandavalidclaimisreceivedwithintheWarrantyPeriod,atitsoption,Sellerwilleither(i)repairthehardwaredefectatnocharge,usingneworrefurbishedreplacementparts,or(ii)exchangetheproductwithaproductthatisneworwhichhasbeenmanufacturedfromneworserviceableusedpartsandisatleastfunctionallyequivalenttotheoriginalproduct,or(iii)refundthepurchasepriceoftheproduct.Forpurposesofthiswarrantyagreement,“Buyer”shallmeanandreferto(i)thepartywhichoriginally–whetherfromSellerdirectly,orfromadistributor,agentorresellerauthorizedbySeller–purchases,orleasesunderawrittenequipmentleaseorrentalagreement,theSeller’sproductwhichisthesubjectofthiswarranty,or(ii)anysubsequentpurchaserortransfereethatacquiresvalidtitletotheequipmentwithintheWarrantyPeriod.

Intheeventoftheoccurrenceofaclaimunderthiswarranty,theBuyershallhavethirty(30)daystonotifySellerinwritingofthenatureandspecificsoftheclaimeddefect;provided,however,thatanyandallclaimsmustbereceivedbeforetheexpirationoftheWarrantyPeriod.FailuretonotifySellerwithinsuchtimeperiodshallvoidthiswarranty.AnyclaimofawarrantieddefectissubjecttoinspectionandanalysisbySellertoconclusivelyidentifyorconfirmthenatureandcauseoffailureandapplicationofthiswarranty.

Thisisafactorywarrantyandanydefectivecomponents,mechanicalorelectrical,willberepairedorreplaced,atthediscretionandauthorizationofSeller,atSeller’sfacilitiesinUtah.ItshallbetheBuyer’sresponsibilitytoreturnthefaultyequipmentorcomponentstoSelleratBuyer’sexpense.Seller’sobligationshallnotincludetransportationcharges,norlabor,material,orservicechargesinvolvedintheremoval,returnorinstallationofequipmentorcomponents.Sellerreservestherighttoincorporateimprovementsinmaterialanddesignofitsproductswithoutnoticeandisnotobligatedtoincorporatethesameimprovementsinequipmentpreviouslymanufactured.

ExclusionsandLimitations.Thislimitedone(1)yearwarrantyisapplicableexclusivelytooriginalequipmentproductsandcomponentsthatweremanufacturedbySeller.Selleralsowarrantsitsreplacementparts,subjecttothetermsandconditionssetforthherein,forthelesserperiodofninety(90)daysfromthedateofdeliveryoruntiltheexpirationoftheoriginalwarranty,whicheverisgreater.Sellerdoesnotwarrant,foranypurpose,anyexternalaccessories,includingbutnotlimitedtocomputers,controllersand/orbarcodescanners,thataremanufacturedbyanothermanufacturerandsoldunderaseparatelabel,eveniftheyarepackagedorsoldwithSeller’sproduct.Seller’sobligationandliabilityunderthiswarrantyisexpresslylimitedtorepairorreplacement(atitsoption)ofthewarrantiedequipmentorcomponentswithintheWarrantyPeriod.ApurchasebyBuyerofequipmentthatithadfirstleasedorrentedshallnotstartanewWarrantyPeriod.Sellerdoesnotwarrantthattheoperationoftheproductwillbeuninterruptedorerror‐free.

Thiswarrantyshallnotapplytoequipmentorcomponentswhichhas/have:

1.BeenthesubjectofrepairsormodificationsnotauthorizedbySeller.2.Beenusedwithincompatibleproducts.3.Beenoperatedunderabnormalconditionsorinanunintendedmanner.4.NotbeenoperatedormaintainedinaccordancewithSeller’sinstructions.5.Beensubjecttomisuseorabuse,negligenthandling,improperinstallation,accident,damagebyfire,flood,waterorotherliquiddamage,abnormalelectricalconditionand/orpowersurge,earthquake,orotheractofGod.6.Hadserialnumbersaltered,defacedorremoved.7.Beenoperatedbeyondcapacity.

TOTHEEXTENTPERMITTEDBYLAW,THISWARRANTYANDTHEREMEDIESSETFORTHABOVEAREEXCLUSIVEANDINLIEUOFALLOTHERWARRANTIES,REMEDIESANDCONDITIONS,WHETHERORALORWRITTEN,STATUTORY,EXPRESSORIMPLIED.ASPERMITTEDBYAPPLICABLELAW,SELLERSPECIFICALLYDISCLAIMSANYANDALLSTATUTORYORIMPLIEDWARRANTIES,INCLUDING,WITHOUTLIMITATION,WARRANTIESOFMERCHANTABILITY,FITNESSFORAPARTICULARPURPOSEANDWARRANTIESAGAINSTHIDDENORLATENTDEFECTS.IFSELLERCANNOTLAWFULLYDISCLAIMSTATUTORYORIMPLIEDWARRANTIESTHENTOTHEEXTENTPERMITTEDBYLAW,ALLSUCHWARRANTIESSHALLBELIMITEDINDURATIONTOTHEDURATIONOFTHISEXPRESSWARRANTYANDTOREPAIRORREPLACEMENTSERVICEASDETERMINEDBYSELLERINITSSOLEDISCRETION.ThisstatementsetsforththefullextentofSeller’sliabilityforbreachofanywarrantyordeficiencyinconnectionwiththesaleoruseoftheproduct.Noemployee,representativeorresellerofSellerisauthorizedtochangethiswarrantyinanywayorgrantanyotherwarranty.

Diagnostics Booting Process Errors

Booting Process Errors

This section describes the various booting process errors that can occur with the CubiScan 125. Refer to the following sections for more information.

Failure in Initialization Process Review the following information if there is a failure in the initialization process when the CubiScan 125 is turned on.

Initialization FileThis process may fail if the SD card is missing or fails to load a needed file. Complete the following steps if the initialization file process fails.

Note Upon initialization failure, the CubiScan 125 will use default settings. This may impact calibration.

1. Tap [Menu] on the CubiScan 125 touchscreen. Tap the N in the Save Data field. Tap the [+] button to change the N to a Y. The current settings will be saved.

2. Reboot the CubiScan 125.

3. Verify that a SD card is installed. The SD card is located in the controller box. Remove the SD card and make sure that the param.txt file is installed.

4. Try using a new SD (2 GB, standard) card with factory default parameter files.

5. If, after completing the above steps, the initialization file process still fails, please contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Reading GateThis process may be delayed if the CubiScan 125 fails to detect gate board(s). Complete the following steps if the reading gate process is delayed.

1. Make sure that the gate power cable is securely connected.

2. Make sure the gate ribbon cables are securely connected.

3. Reboot the CubiScan 125.

4. If, after completing the above steps, the reading gate process still fails, please contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Initializing ScaleThis process may fail if the CubiScan 125 cannot communicate with the scale card. Complete the following steps if the initializing scale process fails.

1. Make sure that all controller box cables are securely connected.

2. Make sure that all load cell summing box cables are securely connected.

4. Check to see if a scale card is present.

5. Is the LED light on the scale card lit?

6. If, after completing the above steps, the initializing scale process is still failing, please contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Initializing LookupIf this process fails contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Strobing GateIf this process fails contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Initializing EthernetThis process may fail if the CubiScan 125 fails to connect to Ethernet. Ethernet settings can be configured under Menu > Com > Ethernet. This may fail in DHCP mode.

1. Make sure that the Ethernet cable is securely connected at both ends.

2. Check the Ethernet cable LEDs where they connect at the controller box. These lights will be green if the Ethernet connection is functioning properly.

3. Contact your IT support.

Failure to Turn On Complete the following steps if the CubiScan 125 fails to turn on.

1. Make sure that the power switch is turned to the ON position.

2. Is the power cable connected to both the CubiScan 125 and a working outlet? If the CubiScan 125 is mobile, is the portable power supply turned on?

3. Is the display cable securely plugged into the controller box and display?

4. Check the fuses. The fuse drawer is located next to the power switch.

5. Try temporarily removing the SD card and boot in default mode.

6. If, after completing the above steps, the CubiScan 125 will still not turn on, please contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Gate Dimensional Errors

This section describes the various gate dimensional errors that can occur with the CubiScan 125. For dimensional errors relating to the ultrasound sensors, see “Ultrasound Dimensional Errors” on page 8.

Inconsistent Measurement Readings Complete the following steps if you are receiving inconsistent measurement readings.

1. If there are any invalid yellow shapes in your measurement results, refer to “Invalid Yellow Shapes in Measurement Results” on page 6. If there are no invalid yellow shapes in your measurement results, continue on to step 2.

2. Does the object you are measuring have a rigid shape? If the object that you are measuring does not have a rigid, stable shape then it is able to change shape. Measurements taken after an object has changed shape will reflect the current state of that object.

3. Measure the calibration cube in different orientations multiple times to check for dimensioning accuracy. If the CubiScan 125 reports roughly the same measurements each time, the CubiScan 125 is measuring accurately. If the CubiScan 125 is not reporting consistent readings, continue on to the next step.

4. If LEDs are incorrectly firing when the gate moves you may need to replace the gate cables. The gate cables that travel through the gate hinge may become worn over time.

5. If, after completing the above steps, you are still receiving inconsistent measurement readings, please contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Incorrect Height Measurement Complete the following steps if you are receiving incorrect height measurements.

1. Clean all four gate filters with a clean, damp (if needed), microfiber cloth. Use water to dampen the cloth; do not clean the gate filters with a solvent as this could cause damage.

2. Make sure that all the controller box cables are securely attached.

3. Go to Menu > Diagnostics > Gate. On the second and fourth gate diagnostic screens, the threshold and sensitivity values are listed for the width and height. The threshold values should be between 550 and 750. The sensitivity values should be 100. If your values are incorrect, go to the fifteenth gate diagnostics screen. From this screen you can run an automatic threshold setting test for the LED beams. When this test is run the CubiScan 125 finds the top and bottom limits and automatically picks the best values. Make sure you move the gate to the middle of the CubiScan 125 when you run this test. You must save your settings to retain any changes.

4. Go to Menu > Diagnostics > Gate. This screen displays the current status of the LED beams. Move the gate to the center of the glass platform and clear the platform of all objects. If the LED beam bars show yellow, continue on to the next step.

5. Go to Menu < Diagnostics > Gate (16/16). From this screen, you can run a masking test to mask LEDs that may be malfunctioning. You should only run this test if 3 or less of the LEDs are not working. Do not run the masking test if a large amount of yellow is displayed on the LED beam bars. If too many LEDs are masked, the CubiScan 125 will not be able to measure objects. To run the masking test, start with the gate in the home position (right side) and slowly move it all the way to the left, and back into the home position. Tap [Mask]. Save your changes and reboot the CubiScan 125.

6. If, after completing the above steps, you are still receiving incorrect height measurements, please contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Item Exceeds Boundary Complete the following steps if you are receiving the item exceeds boundary error message.

1. Yellow specks or lines often occur when there is dust or debris on the glass platform. Remove the glass platform and clean both sides with a clean, damp cloth. If your glass is scratched it may interfere with measurements. Discard damaged glass and use the replacement glass platform that was shipped with the CubiScan 125. Contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000 if you need to order a replacement glass platform.

2. Clean all four gate filters with a clean, damp (if needed), microfiber cloth. Use water to dampen the cloth; do not clean the gate filters with a solvent as this could cause damage.

3. Although rare, does your facility have any type of unusual lighting? If so, try moving the CubiScan 125 to a different location with different lighting.

4. Are there invalid yellow shapes in your measurement results? If so, refer to “Invalid Yellow Shapes in Measurement Results” on page 6.

5. Does the object you are measuring exceed or not meet the measurement range? The measurement range for the CubiScan 125 gate is 0.10 in (0.2 cm) to 18.00 x 18.00 x 12.00 in (45.0 x 45.0 x 30.0 cm).

6. Is the item you are measuring placed roughly in the center of the glass platform? The edges of the metal frame can interfere with the measuring process when objects are placed too close to the frame.

7. Go to Menu > Diagnostics > Gate. On the second and fourth gate diagnostic screens, the threshold and sensitivity values are listed for the width and height. The threshold values should be between 550 and 750. The sensitivity values should be 100. If your values are incorrect, go to the fifteenth gate diagnostics screen. From this screen you can run an automatic threshold setting test for the LED beams. When this test is run the CubiScan 125 finds the top and bottom limits and automatically picks the best values. Make sure you move

the gate to the middle of the CubiScan 125 when you run this test. You must save your settings to retain any changes.

8. Go to Menu < Diagnostics > Gate (16/16). From this screen, you can run a masking test to mask LEDs that may be malfunctioning. You should only run this test if 3 or less of the LEDs are not working. Do not run the masking test if a large amount of yellow is displayed on the LED beam bars. If too many LEDs are masked, the CubiScan 125 will not be able to measure objects. Save your changes and reboot the CubiScan 125.

9. If, after completing the above steps, you are still receiving the item exceeds boundary error, please contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Black Lines in Measurements If there are black lines in your measurements (as shown in the figure below), complete the following steps.

1. Make sure that nothing is blocking the LEDs. Check all the gate filters for dust or debris.

2. If there is nothing blocking the LEDs they may have been masked. Go to Menu > Diagnostics > Gate (16/16). Tap [Reset] to unmask all masked LEDs.

Typically having a few LEDs masked does not interfere with measurements, even if a black line appears in the measurement results as seen in Figure 2. Unmasking malfunctioning LEDs may cause inaccurate measurements.

3. If the LEDs were not masked, and are still not functioning, gate boards may need to be replaced. Contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Invalid Yellow Shapes in Measurement Results There are generally two types of invalid yellow shapes that can occur in measurement results; yellow specks or lines, or a large amount of yellow in the measurement area. Examples of these are shown below. Refer to the following appropriate section according to the type of yellow shape that is being displayed in the measurement results.

Yellow Specks or LinesComplete the following steps to eliminate yellow specks or lines that appear in measurement results.

4. Go to Menu > Diagnostics > Gate (1/16). This screen displays the current status of the LED beams. Remove the glass platform. Move the gate to the center and make sure that no objects are present in the measuring field. If the LED beam bars show yellow, please contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

5. Go to Menu < Diagnostics > Gate (16/16). From this screen, you can run a masking test to mask LEDs that may be malfunctioning. You should only run this test if 3 or less of the LEDs are not working. Do not run the masking test if a large amount of yellow is displayed on the LED beam bars. If too many LEDs are masked, the CubiScan 125 will not be able to measure objects. Large Amounts of YellowComplete the following steps to eliminate large amounts of yellow that appear in the measurement results.

1. Clean all four gate filters with a clean, damp (if needed), microfiber cloth. Use water to dampen the cloth; do not clean the gate filters with a solvent as this could cause damage.

2. Make sure that all the controller box cables are securely attached.

3. Check the light on the gate boards. The light is located about halfway up the board on the left side. If this light is not lit, the board is not receiving power. Make sure that all the connections are secure. Gently tug on each wire to make sure that it is firmly attached.

4. Check the inverter board voltage with a voltmeter to make sure it is receiving power.

5. Go to Menu > Diagnostics > Gate. On the second and fourth gate diagnostic screens, the threshold and sensitivity values are listed for the width and height. The threshold values should be between 550 and 750. The sensitivity values should be 100. If your values are incorrect, go to the fifteenth gate diagnostics screen. From this screen you can run an automatic threshold setting test for the LED beams. When this test is run the CubiScan 125 finds the top and bottom limits and automatically picks the best values. Make sure you move the gate to the middle of the CubiScan 125 when you run this test. You must save your settings to retain any changes.

Ultrasound Dimensional Errors

This section describes the various ultrasound dimensional errors that can occur with the CubiScan 125. For dimensional errors relating to the gate, see “Gate Dimensional Errors” on page 4.

Inaccurate Measurement Readings Complete the following steps if the ultrasound sensors are measuring inaccurately or displaying dashes in the length, width, or height fields.

1. Make sure the gate is in the home position.

2. Make sure the object you are measuring is correctly placed in the back corner of the CubiScan 125’s measuring platform.

3. Make sure that no objects are touching or leaning against the CubiScan 125.

4. Does the object you are measuring exceed or not meet the measurement range? The measurement range for the ultrasound sensors is 2.0 in (5.0 cm) to 24.0 x 30.0 x 36.0 in (60.0 x 80.0 x 90.0 cm).

5. Go to Menu > Diagnostics > Xdcr All. Error messages will be displayed in the length, height, or width field.

If the CubiScan 125 reports NoComm, check the cables leading to that sensor. This message means that there is no communication with that sensor.

Diagnostics Gate Movement Errors

If the CubiScan 125 reports Badpk, make sure that nothing is blocking the sensor. This message may also mean that the CubiScan 125 is receiving faulty or garbled information from the sensor.

If the CubiScan 125 reports UStbl, make sure that nothing is blocking the sensor.

If no error messages are reported, continue on to the next step.

6. Are all cables securely connected to the ultrasound sensors and the controller?

7. Are any covers blocking the ultrasound waves? You may need to adjust the position of the sensors if they are being blocked.

8. Are any of the ultrasound sensors or cables visibly damaged? If you require replacement parts, please contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Gate Movement Errors

This section describes the various gate movement errors that can occur with the CubiScan 125. Refer to the following sections for more information.

Gate Cursor Not Moving Complete the following steps if the green gate cursor does not follow the gate’s movements.

1. Check the encoder cable and make sure it is securely attached at both ends of the cable. If doing this does not correct the problem, continue on to the next step.

2. Check the encoder and see if it is visibly damaged. Contact Quantronix at +1 801-451-7000 if you need a replacement part.

3. Go to Menu > Diagnostics > Encdr. The encoder value should read 0000 when the gate is in the home position. Move the gate all the way to the left and back into the home position. If the encoder value does not change, please contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Gate Cursor Out of Box Complete the following steps if the green gate cursor is out of the box.

1. When the CubiScan 125 reboots, make sure that it declares “CubiScan 125 Ready” after all the files have been initialized. If it declares “CubiScan 25 Ready,” the wrong CubiScan may be selected in the firmware.

2. If, after completing the above step, the gate cursor is still not functioning, please contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Diagnostics Miscellaneous Errors

Gate Speed Warning The gate speed warning message is displayed if the gate is moved too fast to obtain a measurement reading. The gate must be moved at a moderate speed to obtain accurate measurement results.

Irregular Gate Movement Complete the following steps if gate movement is wobbly or uneven.

1. Make sure that no cables or objects are impeding the movement of the gate.

2. If, after completing the above steps, the gate does not move smoothly, please contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Return Gate to Home Error Complete the following steps if the return gate to home error occurs when the gate is in the home position (right side of the CubiScan 125). When the CubiScan 125 is turned on the gate must be in the home position.

1. Make sure that the home indicator is lit and the gate is in the home position.

2. Check the proximity sensor light. This is a little red light on top of the sensor. If this light is out, the proximity sensor may need to be replaced. If the CubiScan 125 is off this light will also be off.

3. Check the encoder and see if it is visibly damaged. Contact Quantronix at +1 801-451-7000 if you need a replacement part.

4. If, after completing the above steps, the return gate to home error keeps occurring or the proximity sensor light is not lit, please contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Miscellaneous Errors

This section describes miscellaneous errors that can occur with the CubiScan 125. Refer to the following sections for more information.

Frozen or Not Functioning Complete the following steps if the CubiScan 125 is not functioning or frozen.

1. Turn the CubiScan 125 off and allow power to drain for at least 20 seconds. Turn the CubiScan 125 back on.

2. If cycling the power does not correct the problem, power the CubiScan 125 off and temporarily remove the SD card.

3. Update the firmware. For information on how to do this, see “Updating the Firmware” on page 19.

Ready Indicator Not Lighting The ready indicator will light after the CubiScan 125 has completed the booting process. If this indicator does not light, contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Touchscreen is Not Functioning Complete the following steps if the touchscreen is frozen, behaving erratically, or responding poorly.

1. Reboot the CubiScan 125.

2. Make sure the display cable is securely plugged in at both ends.

3. Is the touchscreen surface damaged? If the touchscreen is damaged, you may require a replacement part. Contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000 to obtain a replacement part.

4. Calibrate the touchscreen.

5. Temporarily remove the SD card. If doing this does not correct the problem, continue on to step 6.

6. Update the firmware. For information on how to do this, see “Updating the Firmware” on page 19.

7. If, after completing the above steps, the touchscreen is still not responding, please contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Scale Errors

This section describes the various scale errors that can occur with the CubiScan 125. Refer to the following sections for more information.

Dashes in Weight Field Review the following information if there are dashes in the weight field. The location of the dashes is important.

Bottom Dashes Dashes in the bottom of the weight field mean that the scale is reading less than zero. If you have dashes appearing in the bottom of the weight field, complete the following steps:

• Make sure that there are no fans blowing air onto the CubiScan 125. The scale is sensitive and moving air can affect scale readings.

• If there is no air interfering with the CubiScan 125, proceed to step 1 below.

Diagnostics Scale Errors

Middle DashesDashes in the middle of the weight field mean that the scale cannot find a stable reading. If you have dashes appearing in the middle of the weight field, complete the following steps:

• Middle dashes can sometimes mean that there is no communication with the scale. To verify that the CubiScan 125 is communicating with the scale, go to Menu > Diag > Scale. If there is no communication with the scale the Wgt field will display No Com. If there is no communication with the load cells the Wgt field will display NoLC.

• Make sure that there are no fans blowing air onto the CubiScan 125. The scale is sensitive and moving air can affect scale readings.

• If there is no air interfering with the CubiScan 125, proceed to step 1 below.

Top DashesDashes in the top of the weight field mean that the scale is reading over the scale limit.

• Make sure that there are no objects on the platform, especially objects that weigh over the weight limit of 50 lbs.

• If there are no objects on the CubiScan 125’s platform, proceed to step 1 below.

Complete the following steps if there are still dashes in the weight field.

1. Make sure that the glass platform is securely in place.

2. Make sure that there are no objects on or leaning against the glass platform.

3. Make sure that all the controller box cables are securely attached.

4. Make sure that all load cell summing box cables are securely attached.

5. Make sure that there are no objects on the platform and zero the CubiScan 125 by tapping the [Zero] button that is found on the main screen. If an accurate weight is not displayed in the weight field, continue on to the next step.

6. Calibrate the scale. For instructions on how to do this, see “Scale Calibration” on page 14.

7. If, after completing the above steps, there are still dashes in the weight field, please contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Different Load Cells Report Different Weights Complete the following steps if the load cells are reporting different weights in each corner.

1. Calibrate the scale. For more information on calibrating the scale, see “Scale Calibration” on page 14.

2. Make sure the ball cups are properly aligned.

No Zero Indicator Complete the following steps if the zero indicator is not lighting.

1. Make sure that the glass platform is free of all objects.

2. Make sure that there are no objects on or leaning against the frame.

3. Make sure the glass platform is securely in place.

4. Make sure the ball cups are properly aligned.

5. Make sure the frame is free-floating, and not touching or resting on any other parts.

6. Verify that no vibration or air movement is affecting the CubiScan 125.

7. Make sure that all the controller box cables are securely attached.

8. Make sure that all load cell summing box cables are securely attached.

9. Zero the CubiScan 125 by tapping the [Zero] button that is found on the main screen. When you zero the CubiScan 125, make sure the platform is free of all objects.

10. If the zero indicator will still not light, calibrate the scale. For information on calibrating the scale, see “Scale Calibration” on page 14.

11. If, after completing the above steps, the zero indicator is still not lighting, please contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Chapter 2Scale Calibration

To calibrate the CubiScan 125 scale, you will need an official test weight up to 50 pounds (25 kg) (it is recommended that you calibrate with the maximum weight).

IMPORTANT: Do not begin scale calibration until you have the test weight. Calibrating without an accurate known weight (within .01 of a lb/kg) can make all future weight readings inaccurate.

When calibrating the scale, the CubiScan 125 must be stable with no movement of the platform such as that caused by vibration or air movement.

Scale Calibration

Take the following steps to calibrate the CubiScan 125 scale.

1. Tap [Menu] at the main screen.

4. If the weight and weight units displayed are correct for the test weight you are using, proceed to the next step.

If not, change the weight units as follows:

Tap the displayed weight unit. It will turn green. Then tap [+] or [-] to change the unit (e.g., from “lb” to “kg”). Tap the weight unit again to save the changes and return the display to normal.

If not, change the weight as follows:

Tap the displayed weight. It will turn green. Then tap [Prev] or [Next] to select your digit position. Tap [+] or [-] to increase or decrease the selected value.

5. Tap [Next] to continue, and the following screen is displayed.

6. Make sure the CubiScan 125 platform is clear of all objects and tap [Next] to continue. The following screen is displayed.

7. Place the test weight onto the glass platform (roughly in the center) of the CubiScan 125. Allow the scale to completely stabilize, and tap [Next].

8. When the CubiScan 125 is done calibrating, tap [Prev] twice to return to the menu screen.

Chapter 3Cleaning

This section describes the procedure used to clean the CubiScan 125. The CubiScan 125 should be cleaned as often as needed to maintain optimum performance.

Cleaning the Gate Filters

While dust won’t normally interfere with operation, the gate filters should be cleaned routinely to prevent the possibility of interference.

To clean the gate filters, use a clean, damp (if needed), microfiber cloth. Use water to dampen the cloth; do not clean the gate filters with a solvent as this could cause damage.

Cleaning the Glass Platform

To clean the glass platform, remove it from the CubiScan 125. Clean both sides of the platform thoroughly with a clean, damp cloth.

If the glass platform is scratched it may interfere with measurements. Remove the glass platform and try measuring. If this resolves the problem, you may need a new glass platform. Use your spare glass platform. If you need to order a new platform, please contact Quantronix Technical Assistance at +1 801-451-7000.

Cleaning the Touchscreen

To clean the touchscreen, moisten a soft cloth with water, then gently wipe the screen clean with the cloth. Do not spray liquid directly on the touchscreen.

Cleaning the Ultrasound Sensors

To clean the ultrasound sensors, blow dust from the surface or wipe gently with a dry microfiber cloth. The front of the sensor is delicate. Do not use high pressure air or water lines to clean the surface and do not touch it with fingers, tools, or brushes. Doing so may result in damage.

Chapter 4Updating the Firmware

This section describes the procedures used to update the firmware for the CubiScan 125. There are two common methods used, updating the firmware via the SD card or a serial connection. You should use the serial connection method when the firmware or touchscreen is malfunctioning. Both methods are described below.

Updating Firmware via the SD Card

This section describes how to update the CubiScan 125’s firmware using the SD card.

Items Needed • Phillips screwdriver• CS125.bin File

Complete the following steps to update the firmware with the SD card.

1. Power the CubiScan 125 off.

2. Carefully remove the glass platform and place it in a safe location.

3. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the 10 screws holding the controller box lid in place. Refer to Figure 10.

4. Remove the controller box lid.

5. To allow the firmware to be updated, you will need to move a jumper. Move the jumper indicated in Figure 15 from the Protected mode to the Write mode.

6. Remove the SD card indicated in Figure 12.

7. Insert the SD card into your PC and copy the provided CS125.bin onto the SD card. This new file will replace any previous existing versions of the CS125.bin file.

8. Remove the SD card from the PC and return it to its slot from step 6.

9. Power the CubiScan 125 on.

10. Go to Menu > Setup (6/7). In the Update Firmware field, select the N and change it to a Y.

11. The CubiScan 125 will take several moments to update the firmware.

12. These changes must be saved for the CubiScan 125 to retain them. To save your changes, go to the menu screen and change the N to a Y in the Save Changes field.

13. Move the jumper from step 5 back to the Protected mode. Moving the jumper to the Protected mode will prevent firmware from being lost.

14. Replace the controller box lid and secure it using the screws from step 3.

15. Replace the glass platform.

16. Reboot the CubiScan 125.

17. To confirm the new firmware update, see “Checking the Firmware Version” on page 22.

Updating Firmware via a Serial Connection

This section describes how to update the CubiScan 125’s firmware using a serial connection.

5. To allow the firmware to be updated, you will need to move two jumpers. The first jumper is located near the SD card. Refer to Figure 14. Move the jumper from the Exec mode to the Kernel mode.

6. Move the second jumper from the Protected mode to the Write mode. Refer to Figure 11.

7. Connect the USB to serial adapter to the PC.

8. Connect one end of the RS-232 cable to the adapter and the other end to the back of the CubiScan 125 controller.

9. Open the CS125Downloader.exe.

10. Navigate to the CS125Downloader.exe folder using the Directory.

11. Select CS125.bin from the Files window.

12. Select the port that the adapter is connected to.

13. Power the CubiScan 125 on. If you are connected correctly, the kernel version will be displayed in the message box.

14. Click Program. The application will now program the motherboard. When the firmware is done loading it will then go through the verification process. This process is indicated by asterisks. You must wait until this process is finished.

15. When the verification process has finished, power the CubiScan 125 down.

16. Move the jumper from step 6 back to the Protected mode.

17. Move the jumper from step 5 back to the Exec mode.

Chapter 5Balancing the Load Cells

This section describes the procedure used to balance the load cells of the CubiScan 125.

Balancing the Load Cells

This section describes how to balance the CubiScan 125’s load cells.

Items Needed • Phillips Screwdriver• Small Flathead Screwdriver• 50 lb Weight (it is recommended that the maximum

weight is used)

Complete the following steps to balance the load cells. Balanced load cells report the same weight. There are three load cells located at each corner of the CubiScan 125. To balance the load cells the CubiScan 125 must be on.

1. Make sure that there is no air blowing on the CubiScan 125, as this can disrupt the balancing process.

2. Zero the scale by tapping the Zero button located on the main screen.

3. On the CubiScan 125’s touchscreen, go to Menu > Diagnostics > Scale (1/2). This screen will display the current weight in the Wgt field.

4. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the four screws holding the load cell summing board lid in place and remove the lid. Refer to Figure 16.

5. To balance the load cells you will need to adjust the variable resistors, which are also known as potentiometers or POTs. To adjust a POT, use the small flathead screwdriver to rotate the screw. See Figure 17.

Rotating a POT counterclockwise will decrease the added weight from a load cell.

Adjusting a POT will affect the other two POT readings.

The goal is to have all three corners display the same value.

6. Place the 25 lb weight on each corner of the CubiScan 125. Figure 18 shows which CubiScan 125 corner (where the load cells are located) corresponds with each POT.

7. Choose the two corners that are the closest to 25 lb. These will be your first and second corners. Move the weight back and forth between them. Adjust the appropriate POT until the displayed weight values for both corners are the same (this does not necessarily need to be 25 lb).

8. Move the weight to the third corner. Move the weight back and forth between corners one and three. Adjust the POTs until the same weight value is displayed for all three of your corners.

9. When all three corners read approximately the same weight, the load cells are balanced.

10. Replace the load cell summing box lid and secure it using the screws from step 5.

11. When everything has been replaced and the load cells have been balanced, you need to recalibrate the scale. For instructions on calibrating the scale, see “Scale Calibration” on page 14.

1. Power the CubiScan 125 off.

2. Carefully remove the glass platform and place it in a safe location.

3. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the 10 screws holding the controller box lid in place and remove the lid. See Figure 19.

4. Remove the four screws holding the display assembly in place. These screws are found on the green display board, one in each corner.

5. Replace the damaged display assembly with the replacement display assembly.

6. Secure the display assembly using the screws from step 4.

7. Replace the controller box lid and screw it in place using the screws from step 3.

8. Replace the glass platform.

9. Power the CubiScan 125 on.

Complete the following steps to replace the length or width ultrasound sensor.

1. Power the CubiScan 125 off.

2. Unplug the sensor cable that attaches at the base of the sensor.

3. Using the 5/32'' Allen wrench, remove the two screws located on the bottom of the sensor. See Figure 20. These screws have lock washers.

4. Before removing the sensor, note the angle of the ultrasound sensor. Try to duplicate this angle with the replacement sensor.

5. Remove the damaged sensor and discard it.

6. Put the replacement sensor in place and secure it using the screws and washers from step 3. Try to duplicate the angle that was observed in step 4.

7. Plug the sensor cable back in.

8. Power the CubiScan 125 on.

9. When you have successfully replaced the sensor, you will need to recalibrate the ultrasound sensors. To calibrate, you will need the 12'' x 5'' x 3.6'' calibration cube. On the CubiScan 125 touchscreen, go to Menu > Calibrate > XDCR. You will be guided through the calibration process.

Items Needed • 11/32'' nut driver• 5/32'' Allen wrench• Replacement sensor

Complete the following steps to replace the height ultrasound sensor.

1. Power the CubiScan 125 off.

2. Unplug the sensor cable that attaches at the back of the sensor.

3. Using the 11/32'' nut driver, remove the two nuts holding the height sensor bracket in place. See Figure 21. Remove the bracket.

4. Use the 5/32'' Allen wrench to remove the two screws holding the sensor in place. These screws are located at the back of the sensor.

5. Replace the damaged ultrasound sensor with the replacement ultrasound sensor and secure it using the screws from step 4.

6. Replace the height sensor bracket and secure it using the nuts from step 3.

7. Plug the sensor cable back in.

8. Power the CubiScan 125 on.

9. When you have successfully replaced the sensor, you will need to recalibrate the ultrasound sensors. To calibrate, you will need the 12'' x 5'' x 3.6'' calibration cube. On the CubiScan 125 touchscreen, go to Menu > Calibrate > XDCR. You will be guided through the calibration process.

Items Needed • 5/64'' Allen wrench• 1/16'' Allen wrench• Phillips screwdriver• Replacement height transmitter board

Complete the following steps to replace the height transmitter board. The height transmitter board is the board located on the back side of the gate (the side opposite from the touchscreen).

1. Power the CubiScan 125 off.

2. Move the gate so you can access the gate cover screws. Remove the four screws holding the gate cover in place using the 5/64'' Allen wrench. Refer to Figure 22.

3. When the screws have been removed, carefully remove the cover and the filter that the cover is holding in place. Handle the filter with care to avoid damaging or scratching it.

4. Using the 1/16'' Allen wrench, remove the four screws indicated in Figure 23. Gently pull the board assembly out of the gate until you can access the cables attached to the board.

5. Disconnect the transmit ribbon by simultaneously pushing the tabs located on each end of the connector outwards. The transmit ribbon cable is indicated in Figure 24.

6. Disconnect the power cable, indicated in Figure 24.

7. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the six screws holding the transmitter board in place.

8. Carefully remove the damaged transmitter board and replace it with the new transmitter board. Handle the board with care; the LEDs are fragile and can be broken. Make sure you orient the transmitter

board correctly, with the power connector in the bottom-left corner.

9. Screw the replacement transmitter board into place using the screws from step 7.

10. Reattach the power cable and transmit ribbon, as indicated in Figure 23 and Figure 24. Make sure the transmit ribbon has been firmly locked into place, with both tabs securely snapped.

11. Insert the board assembly back into the gate, making sure that no wires are pinched or disconnected. Secure the board assembly using the screws from step 4.

12. Replace the filter and gate cover. When you place the filter make sure it is clean and free of fingerprints. Orient the gate cover with the longer side at the top so that no wires or gaps are visible.

13. Secure the gate cover with the screws from step 2.

14. Power the CubiScan 125 on.

Replacing the Height Receiver Board

This section describes how to replace the height receiver board on the CubiScan 125.

Items Needed • 5/64'' Allen wrench• Phillips screwdriver• Replacement height receiver board

Complete the following steps to replace the height receiver board. The height receiver board is located on the front side of the gate, where the gate handle is located.

1. Power the CubiScan 125 off.

3. When the screws have been loosened, slide the gate cover up and away from the CubiScan 125.

4. Disconnect the receive ribbons DB25 and DB9 by simultaneously pushing the tabs located on each end of the connectors outwards. These ribbon cables are indicated in Figure 26.

5. Disconnect the two power cables, indicated in Figure 26.

6. Remove the six screws holding the receiver board in place, using a Phillips screwdriver. These screws are shown in Figure 27.

7. Carefully remove the damaged receiver board and replace it with the new receiver board. Handle the board with care; the LEDs are fragile and can be broken. Make sure you orient the receiver board correctly, with the power connectors in the bottom-left corner.

8. Screw the replacement receiver board into place using the screws from step 6.

9. Make sure that the jumper is set to the 3 position.

10. Reattach the power cables and receive ribbons, as indicated in Figure 26. Make sure the ribbons have been firmly locked into place, with both tabs securely snapped.

11. Replace the gate cover and tighten the screws from step 2.

12. Power the CubiScan 125 on.

Complete the following steps to replace one of the width transmitter boards. The width transmitter boards are located at the bottom of the gate.

1. Power the CubiScan 125 off.

2. Carefully remove the glass platform and place it in a safe location. Move the gate all the way to the left side of the system.

3. Remove the eight screws holding the gate cover in place using the 5/64'' Allen wrench. Refer to Figure 28.

4. Remove the filter and set it aside.

5. Remove the four Allen screws, two on each side of the gate, using the 1/16'' Allen wrench. Refer to Figure 29. The width transmitter board assembly will now be free to move.

6. Carefully lift up the width transmitter gate assembly and turn it over.

7. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the six screws holding the damaged transmitter board in place. These screws are located in each corner and the middle of the transmitter board.

8. Disconnect the power cable, as indicated in Figure 30.

9. Disconnect the DB9 transmit ribbon by simultaneously pushing the tabs located on each end of the connector outwards. The transmit ribbon is indicated in Figure 30.

10. Carefully remove the damaged transmitter board and replace it with the new transmitter board. Handle the board with care; the LEDs are fragile and can be broken. Make sure you orient the transmitter board correctly, with the power connector towards the back of the CubiScan 125.

Replacing the Width Receiver Board

This section describes how to replace a width receiver board on the CubiScan 125.

Complete the following steps to replace the width receiver board. The width receiver board is located on top of the gate.

1. Power the CubiScan 125 off.

2. Use the 3/8'' ratchet to remove the three bolts holding the encoder cover in place and then remove the cover and set it aside. See Figure 31.

3. Loosen the four screws holding the gate cover in place using the 5/64'' Allen wrench. Refer to Figure 32.

7. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the six screws holding the damaged receive board in place. These screws are located in each corner and the middle of the transmitter board.

8. Carefully remove the damaged receive board and replace it with the new receiver board. Handle the board with care; the LEDs are fragile and can be broken. Make sure you orient the receive board correctly, with the power connector on the right (if you are facing the front of the CubiScan 125) and towards the back of the machine.

9. Screw the replacement receiver board into place using the screws from step 7.

10. Make sure that the jumper is set to the 1 position.

11. Reattach the power cables and receive ribbons, as indicated in Figure 32. Make sure the transmit ribbons have been firmly locked into place, with both tabs securely snapped.

12. Replace the gate cover and tighten the screws from step 3.

13. Replace the encoder cover and secure it using the bolts from step 2.

14. Power the CubiScan 125 on.

Complete the following steps to replace the encoder cable.

1. Power off the CubiScan 125.

2. Carefully remove the glass platform and place it in a safe location.

3. Using the 3/8'' ratchet, remove the three bolts holding the encoder cover in place. These bolts are indicated in Figure 34. Remove the encoder cover and set it aside.

4. Using the Phillips screwdriver, loosen the screws holding the encoder cable cover in place. These screws are located on the back of the frame (the same side as the serial label) and are shown in Figure 35. When the screws are loose, slide the encoder cable cover out and set it aside.

5. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws holding the encoder in place. These screws are indicated in Figure 36.

6. Using the 0.05 Allen wrench, loosen the two encoder set screws. Refer to Figure 37. Do not loosen these screws too much or they will fall inside the encoder and be difficult to recover.

7. Follow the encoder cable and cut all eight zip ties holding it in place. You may want to take pictures of how the cable was routed so that you can duplicate this process later.

8. Unplug the encoder cable from the controller and discard it.

9. Put the replacement encoder in place and secure it by tightening the set screws from step 6.

10. Replace the screws from step 5 and tighten them.

11. Route the encoder cable to the controller using the route observed in step 7. Plug the cable into the controller.

12. Replace the zip ties that were cut in step 7. Take up the encoder cable slack under the encoder cable cover.

13. Slide the encoder cable cover back into place and tighten the screws from step 4.

14. Replace the encoder cover and secure it using the bolts from step 3.

15. Replace the glass platform.

16. Power the CubiScan 125 back on.

Replacing the Proximity Sensor

This section describes how to replace the proximity sensor.

Items Needed • Phillips screwdriver• Zip tie cutters• Replacement proximity sensor• Zip ties

Complete the following steps to replace the proximity sensor.

1. Power the CubiScan 125 off.

2. Move the gate to the left side of the CubiScan 125.

3. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws indicated in Figure 38.

4. Unplug the sensor cable from the controller.

5. Cut the five zip ties holding the proximity sensor cable in place and unroute the cable from the frame. When you are finished, discard the damaged proximity sensor.

Replacing the Controller Box

This section describes how to replace the controller. The controller box is attached to the touchscreen, located at the front of the CubiScan 125.

•To remove the Ethernet cable, press the tab and pull it straight out.

•To remove the USB or display cable, simply pull it straight out using even pressure.

•To remove the serial or load cell cable, loosen the screws and pull the cable straight out.

•To remove the gate DB9 and gate DB25 cables, use the Phillips screwdriver to loosen the screws, and pull the cables straight out.

•To remove the gate power, proximity sensor, and encoder cables; unscrew the cables and pull them straight out.

•To remove the ultrasound sensor cables, press the tab and pull the cable straight out.

4. Disconnect the ground cable by using a 5/16'' wrench to remove the nut.

5. Using the 1/8'' Allen wrench, remove the four screws holding the controller in place. See Figure 39.

6. Pull the controller out.

7. Locate the replacement controller box and place it in the CubiScan 125 base assembly.

8. Secure the controller using the screws from step 5.

9. Reconnect all the necessary cables to the controller box. For more information refer to step 3.

10. Replace the ground cable and secure it using the nut from step 4.

11. Carefully replace the glass platform.

12. Reconnect the power cord from step 1 and power the CubiScan 125 on.

4. Disconnect the following cables that are connecting to the outside of the controller box.

• Load cell summing cable

• Depending on your connection choice, you may only need to remove one (or none) of the following cables; Ethernet, USB, or serial.

5. Disconnect the four ribbon cables that are attached to the motherboard.

6. Disconnect all other cables where they attach to the motherboard.

7. Remove the SD card and set it aside.

8. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the screw on the front of the scale card.

9. Remove the screws, four total, located on each corner of the motherboard.

10. Carefully remove the motherboard and turn it over.

11. Remove the screws on the bottom of the motherboard. These are holding the scale card in place. Discard the damaged motherboard.

12. Locate the replacement motherboard and screw the scale card in place using the screws from steps 8 and 11.

13. Screw the motherboard into place using the screws from step 9.

14. Reconnect the cables from steps 5 and 6. Refer to Figure 42 if needed.

15. Reconnect the cables from step 4 that connect to the outside of the controller.

2. Remove the glass platform.

4. Disconnect all three of the cables attached to the power supply. You may need to use pliers to remove the ground cable connection.

5. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the screw holding the power supply cage lid in place. See Figure 44.

6. Remove the cage lid by sliding it forward and lifting up.

7. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the four screws holding the power supply board down. The screws are located in each corner of the power supply board.

Replacing the Scale Card

12. Turn the motherboard back over and replace the screws from step 9.

13. Screw the motherboard back into place using the screws from step 7.

14. Reconnect the cables to the motherboard. Refer to Figure 47 if you need a reference.

15. Replace the controller lid and secure it using the screws from step 4.

16. Plug all cables back into the controller.

17. Replace the glass platform.

18. Power the CubiScan 125 on.

19. Calibrate the CubiScan 125. For instructions on calibrating the scale, see “Scale Calibration” on page 14.

Replacing the Load Cell Summing Board

This section describes how to replace the load cell summing board. The load cell summing board is located in the load cell summing box. Handle the load cell summing board with care and avoid exposing it to static electricity.

Complete the following steps to replace the load cell summing board.

1. Power the CubiScan 125 off.

2. Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws holding the load cell summing board lid in place and remove the lid. Refer to Figure 48.

3. Disconnect the load cell connection wires using the small flathead screwdriver. To disconnect the wires, insert the flathead into the slot corresponding with the wire that you want to remove and push down. The wire will be released.

4. Disconnect the load cell cables from the load cell summing box by unscrewing the grommet and nut until the cables can be pulled from the box. Make sure you keep track of which load cell is which. Mixing them up will complicate future maintenance.

5. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the four screws holding the load cell summing board in place.

6. Remove the damaged summing board and discard it.

7. Locate the replacement summing board and screw it into place using the screws from step 5.

8. Feed the load cell cables into the summing box and secure them by screwing on the grommet and nut.

9. Reconnect the load cell connection wires. Refer to Figure 50.

10. Power the CubiScan 125 on.

11. Balance the load cells. For instructions on this process, see “Balancing the Load Cells” on page 23.

12. When you have finished balancing the load cells, replace the load cell summing box lid and secure it using the screws from step 2.

13. Calibrate the CubiScan 125. See “Scale Calibration” on page 14 for calibration instructions.

Replacing a Load Cell

This section describes how to replace a load cell. The CubiScan 125 has three different load cells. The following steps are general replacement instructions; steps and figures may vary slightly for each individual load cell.

Items Needed • Phillips screwdriver• Small flathead screwdriver• Zip tie cutters• 1/8'' Allen wrench• 5/8'' Allen wrench• 1/2'' ratchet• Replacement load cell• Zip ties

Complete the following steps to replace a load cell.

1. Power the CubiScan 125 off.

2. Use the Phillips screwdriver to remove the four screws holding the load cell summing box lid in place. See Figure 51. Remove the lid and set it aside.

3. Locate the damaged load cell cable and disconnect the load cell connection wires using the small flathead screwdriver. To disconnect the wires, insert the flathead into the slot corresponding with the wire that you want to remove and push down. The wire will be released.

4. Disconnect the load cell cable from the load cell summing box by unscrewing the grommet and nut until the cable can be pulled from the box.

5. Follow the load cell cable from the summing box to the load cell, cutting the zip ties holding it in place.

6. Use the 1/8'' Allen wrench to remove the screw holding the load cell cover in place.

7. Remove the load cell cover and set it aside.

8. Remove the load cell ball that the ball cups are holding in place. Place this ball in a safe location so it won’t roll away and be lost.

9. Adjust the CubiScan 125 so that you can access the underside of the two bolts holding the load cell in place. These bolts are shown in Figure 52.

10. Use the 5/8'' wrench to hold the bolts indicated in Figure 52 in place while using the 1/2'' ratchet to remove the nuts indicated in Figure 53. Remove the bolts and set them aside.

11. Carefully pull the load cell and attached cable out, you may need to unroute the cable from the CubiScan 125 frame.

12. Locate the replacement load cell and bolt it into place using the bolts and nuts from step 10.

13. Replace the load cell ball from step 8.

14. Make sure the ball cups are aligned. They should not be touching.

15. Route the load cell cable to the load cell summing box.

16. Reconnect the load cell connection wires from step 3. Figure 54 shows a diagram of the wires.

17. Zip tie the load cell cable and any other cables that were released when the zip ties were cut. Take up any slack.

18. Replace the load cell cover and secure it using the screw from step 6.

19. Once everything has been replaced, you will need to balance the load cells. Power the CubiScan 125 on.

20. For instructions on balancing the load cells, see “Balancing the Load Cells” on page 23.

21. When you have finished balancing the load cells, replace the load cell summing box lid and secure it using the screws from step 2.

22. Calibrate the CubiScan 125. For calibration instructions, see “Scale Calibration” on page 14.

Replacing Gate Cables

This section describes how to replace gate cables after they have been damaged or worn over time. This process is much easier with two people.

Items Needed • Phillips screwdriver • 3/8'' ratchet• 0.05 Allen wrench• 1/8'' Allen wrench• Scissors• Zip tie cutters• 5/64'' Allen wrench• 1/16'' Allen wrench• Replacement gate cables• Replacement gate bearings• Zip ties

Complete the following steps to replace the gate cables.

1. Power the CubiScan 125 off.

2. Carefully remove the glass platform and place it in a safe location.

3. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the 10 front screws holding the platter in place. These screws are indicated in Figure 55.

4. Remove the 10 back screws holding the platter in place. These screws are indicated in Figure 56.

5. Remove the platter and set it aside.

6. Using the 3/8'' ratchet, remove the three bolts holding the encoder cover in place. See Figure 57.

7. Using the Phillips screwdriver, remove the two screws holding the encoder in place. These screws are indicated in Figure 58.

8. Using the 0.05 Allen wrench, loosen the two encoder set screws. Refer to Figure 59. Do not loosen these screws too much or they will fall inside the encoder and be very difficult to recover. Move the encoder to the side.

9. Using the 1/8'' Allen wrench, remove the screw holding the bubble level cover down. See Figure 60. Remove the cover and set it aside.

10. Using the Phillips screwdriver, disconnect the two ribbon cables from the controller. Cut the ends of the cables off so that they will fit through the gate hinge.

11. Cut the five zip ties holding the ribbon cables in place.

12. Unplug the gate power cable from the controller and cut the zip tie holding it in place.

13. Remove the four bolts on the back, indicated in Figure 61.

14. Remove the four bolts holding the gate bracket in place. These bolts are indicated in Figure 62.

15. Hold the gate so it does not fall over and remove the gate bracket.

16. Carefully lift the gate assembly up and place it in a safe location, being careful to feed the gate cables up through the hinge. As you work on the gate make sure it is stable, if it falls over the LEDs could be damaged.

17. Using the 5/64'' Allen wrench, loosen the screws holding the height transmitter, height receiver, and width receiver covers. Figure 63 labels the gate transmit and receive boards. Remove the covers and set them aside.

18. Unplug the gate cables from the height receiver and width receiver boards.

19. To access the height transmitter board, use the 1/16'' Allen wrench to remove the four screws indicated in Figure 64.

20. Remove the filter before gently pulling the board out and disconnecting the ribbon and power cables. Once the board has been disconnected from the cables, set it aside.

21. Use a Phillips screwdriver to remove the distribution board located directly above the height transmitter

board. Disconnect all the ribbon cables and set the board aside.

22. Remove the spiral wrap on the gate cables.

23. Once everything has been disconnected, feed the cables through the gate and pull them out.

24. Locate the new gate cables. Plug the new cables into the gate boards. Start with the height receive board and end with the height transmit board; don’t forget to plug the cables into the distribution board from step 21. When plugging cables into the distribution board, make sure that the rx and tx cables are plugged into the correct connectors. Make sure that all cables are plugged securely into their connectors.

25. Screw the distribution board into place.

26. Feed the cables down through the gate hinge; avoid bending or stressing the cables.

27. Replace the height transmitter board and secure it using the screws from step 19. Make sure that the board is oriented with the power connector at the bottom.

28. Replace all the gate covers and tighten the screws to hold them in place. When replacing the height transmit cover, first put the filter in place, making sure that there are no specks or fingerprints on it. The height transmit cover is oriented with the long side on top.

29. Replace the two bearings located on the top and bottom of the gate.

30. Move the gate back into place, feeding the cables through the hinge.

31. Replace the bolts from step 13, located on the back of the CubiScan 125. These bolts should be placed about 3/4 of the way up the slot.

32. Replace the gate bracket and loosely secure it using the bolts from step 14. Do not tighten these bolts all the way yet.

33. Replace the spiral wrap around the gate cables.

34. Attach the connectors to the ribbon cables. When you attach the connectors, make sure that you line pin 1 (the red wire) up with pin 1 on the connector.

35. Route the ribbon cables and gate power cable to the controller and plug them in. When routing the cables make sure that they are as far as possible from the back load cell. If they are routed too closely to the load cell the CubiScan 125 may not measure correctly. Do not zip tie the cables in place yet.

36. Replace the encoder and secure it using the screws from step 7. Tighten the set screws from step 8.

37. Once all the cables have been plugged in turn the CubiScan 125 on.

38. Go to the first gate diagnostic screen and make sure that the gate is functioning correctly.

39. Once you have determined that everything is working properly, the CubiScan 125 is ready to be put back together.

40. Screw the ribbon cables in place if you have not already done so.

41. Replace the bubble level cover and secure it using the screw from step 9.

42. Replace the platter and secure it using the 20 screws, 10 in front and 10 in back, from steps 3 and 4. Do not tighten these screws individually, partially tighten all of the screws before tightening them all the way.

43. Replace the glass platform.

44. You will then need to align the gate. You will need the calibration cube. Make sure you are still in the first gate diagnostic screen. Place the calibration cube in various places on the glass platform, measure them, and check the heights that are reported. The heights should all be within 0.4'' tolerance of each other. If the various heights are not within this tolerance, move the gate up or down until they are all within tolerance. The gate should only need to be adjusted in slight increments. Once you have adjusted the gate and all measurements are within tolerance, tighten the bolts from step 14. Make sure you tighten the bolts with washers first.

Serial (RS-232) Communication

This section describes how to communicate with a CubiScan 125 via a serial cable. Complete the following steps to communicate using a serial connection.

1. Place the computer close to the CubiScan 125.

2. Route the RS-232 serial cable through an opening in the base so it cannot be crushed, bent, or pulled loose. Make sure that the cable does not interfere with gate movement or the scale.

3. The CubiScan 125 control box is located just behind the touchscreen. Connect one end of the serial cable to the computer, and the other end to the CubiScan 125 controller. Tighten the screws (two on each connector) to secure the cable in place. If the computer’s serial port is not a 9-pin port you may require an adapter (not supplied).

The computer should now be able to communicate with the CubiScan 125. For information on the serial cable pin-outs, refer to “Serial (RS-232-C) Cable Pin Assignments” on page 57.

Ethernet Communication

This section describes how to communicate with a CubiScan 125 using Ethernet. You can connect the CubiScan 125 to a network through a standard 10/100Base-T Ethernet TCP/IP port. There are two options for connecting to a CubiScan 125 via Ethernet. One method uses a standard Ethernet cable with RG-45 connectors, while the other method uses a standard Ethernet cable and a crossover Ethernet to USB adapter.

Ethernet Cable Complete the following steps to connect to the CubiScan 125 using a standard Ethernet cable.

1. Place the computer close to the CubiScan 125.

2. Route the Ethernet cable under the base so it cannot be crushed, bent, or pulled loose. Make sure that the cable does not interfere with gate movement or the scale.

3. The CubiScan 125 control box is located just behind the touchscreen. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the computer, and the other end to the CubiScan 125 controller. Push the connector in until it locks. There should be an audible snap when the connector locks.

When it is turned on, the CubiScan 125 will recognize the cable connection and, if configured correctly, will respond to a connection request from the host. For more information on the Ethernet cable pin-outs, refer to “Ethernet (TCP/IP) Cable Pin Assignments” on page 57.

Ethernet Cable with Ethernet to USB Adapter Complete the following steps to connect to the CubiScan 125 using a standard Ethernet cable and Ethernet to USB adapter.

1. Place the computer close to the CubiScan 125.

2. Route the Ethernet cable under the base so it cannot be crushed, bent, or pulled loose. Make sure that the cable does not interfere with gate movement or the scale.

3. The CubiScan 125 control box is located just behind the touchscreen. Connect one end of the Ethernet cable to the controller. Push the connector in until it locks.

4. Install the driver by plugging the Ethernet to USB adapter into the computer.

5. Plug the Ethernet cable into the adapter.

6. Once the driver is installed you must set the static IP address and Subnet mask of the adapter. Under Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center locate and click on the correct connection to bring up the status window.

7. Select Properties. Double-click Internet Protocol Version 4 to bring up the general properties window. From this screen you can set the IP address and Subnet mask. Enable the radio button located next to the Use the following IP address option and enter the IP address and Subnet mask. The recommended IP address setting is 10.1.100.10. The recommended Subnet mask setting is 255.255.255.0.

Once you have completed these steps, the computer should communicate with the CubiScan 125.

USB Communication

This section describes how to communicate with a CubiScan 125 via a USB cable. Complete the following steps to communicate using a USB connection.

1. Place the computer close to the CubiScan 125.

2. Route the USB cable under the base so it cannot be crushed, bent, or pulled loose. Make sure that the cable does not interfere with gate movement or the scale.

3. The CubiScan 125 control box is located just behind the touchscreen. Connect one end of the USB cable to the computer, and the other end to the CubiScan 125 controller. If your operating system in newer than Windows XP, the drivers will be installed automatically. If your operating system is Windows XP or older, you will need to download the drivers located on the CD that shipped with your CubiScan.

4. Once the drivers have been installed, you will need to determine which COM port the computer has assigned to the USB port. Under Control Panel > Hardware and Sound locate and click on Device Manager.

5. Click the arrow next to the Ports section to expand it. Locate the COM port assigned to the CubiScan 125. This is the COM port you will use when setting up Qbit to communicate with the CubiScan 125.

Use COM Define

The Use COM Define option is a method of receiving data from the CubiScan 125 directly. When this option is turned on, data can be pushed from the CubiScan to a computer using a serial to HID keyboard converter cable. This option is useful when software cannot be used to collect data from the CubiScan. The data string can be edited in the “com_def.txt” file.

Complete the following steps to setup the Use COM Define option.

1. Place the computer close to the CubiScan 125.

2. Route a RS-232 serial cable through an opening in the base so it cannot be crushed, bent, or pulled loose. Make sure that the cable does not interfere with gate movement or the scale.

2. Plug the serial to HID keyboard converter cable into the RS-232 serial cable. Plug the USB end of the converter cable into the computer.

3. On the CubiScan 125 touchscreen, go to Menu > Setup (7/7). Turn the Use COM Define option to Y.

4. On the computer, open the application that you want data transmitted to. Data will be transmitted to whichever application currently has Windows focus.

5. Take a measurement. The data should be transmitted.

It is configured as a communications device class (or USB CDC). The device attaches, on the USB side, to an RS-232 communications line and the computer operating system. This makes the USB device appear as a traditional RS-232 port.

The CubiScan 125 command set can be sent, via USB, using RS-232 communication software.

The following table shows the parameters for asynchronous communications through the USB cable.

CubiScan 125 Command SetThis section describes the commands recognized by the CubiScan 125 to cube and weigh packages and to set up the CubiScan 125 for cubing and weighing (dimension units, factor toggle, calibration, zero, and so on).

All command packets begin with an STX (start of text) and end with a LF (line feed). Each command has a Command field and an optional Data field. For example:

This function is required when one of the sensors is replaced or moved, when a new control is installed, or for routine calibration. This command is used to set the weight units to either English (pounds) or metric (kilograms) mode.

This command should be issued periodically to force the CubiScan 125 to perform internal compensations to adjust to changes in temperature and humidity. TCP/IP Communications Setup Command SetThis section describes the commands recognized by the CubiScan 125 to set up the CubiScan 125 for communications with a network using the TCP/IP protocol.

You can use the Qbit, QbitTCP software to configure the CubiScan 125 for TCP/IP communications. Contact Quantronix for information.

Configuration of the CubiScan 125 for TCP/IP communication is performed through the RS-232-C serial communications port using the following commands.

Set Port

This command is used to set the CubiScan 125 TCP port number. In TCP/IP networks, port numbers are used to distinguish between different logical channels on the same network interface on the same computer. For example, port 80 is used for HTTP traffic on the Internet. Some ports have numbers assigned to them by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA). These are known as “well-known ports” and are limited to numbers 0 through 1023. Ports 1024 through 49151 are “registered ports” listed by the IANA, and can be used by ordinary user processes on most systems. Ports 49152 through 65535 are called “dynamic and/or private ports” and are free for use. It is recommended that the CubiScan 125 TCP port be set to a number

Set IP Address

This command is used to set the CubiScan 125 IP address. The IP address, or Internet address, is usually expressed in “dot” notation; for example, “121.43.6.234.” The first three groups of numbers (e.g., 121.43.6) are usually specific to the network to which you are connecting. The last number (e.g., 234) is specific to a particular CubiScan 125. Consult your network administrator to obtain an available IP address.

Set Subnet Mask

This command is used to set the CubiScan 125 subnet mask. The subnet (sub-network) is a separate part of an organization’s network. A subnet address tells the network’s router where on the network to send incoming packets of information. Subnet masking allows the router to move packets more quickly. Like the IP address, the subnet mask is usually expressed in “dot” notation. Consult your network administrator to obtain a subnet mask.
