All I can say is "Wow!" There was so much variety in

the wonderful Color Challenges at the last meeting.

They were simply wonderful, and so representative of

the talent in our Guild.

The current UFO (UnFinished Object) challenge has

just begun. When I completed my challenge form, I

included three challenges to complete more than one

item. For instance, I have two quilts being quilted at

Cloth and Quilts, and one that Herd of Turtles quilted

quite a while back. All they need is binding, so I

decided that I would group them together. One of my

challenges is to complete three class projects, and I

have so many to choose from! I hope the rest of you

are enjoying this challenge as much as I am.

This week I'm spending a lot of time in my sewing

room, looking at the two quilt tops that are my UFO

challenge number two. Yes, two tops. They are from a

mystery class my sister and I took at Sisters during

the 2009 Quilters' Affair (the week of classes before

their show). I love making and designing mystery

quilts, and would generally talk my sister into taking

one with me. I've already completed one pair since

she passed, and this will be the second. In a way, I'm

a bit daunted by this challenge because my quilt top is

about half completed and hers about a third. She was

a bit slower than I, as she really liked to wander from

person to person, talking about what each quilter was

making, and knowing her, also sharing her life story.

For her, it was a very social time! So, smiles and

sweet memories will go with each of the stitches that

complete those tops.

Happy Quilting,

Anita

April showers bring May flowers, and hopefully lots of beautiful colorful quilts! April's Guild meetings were

really great. Kevin Kosbab brought all his wonderful designs and info on mixing fabrics. I am not into modern

quilts but I really want to make his Paper Shredder Quilt! At our business meeting, Kathy Sandner took the

mystery out of Double Wedding Ring Quilts.

May brings us Lisa McKissick, "The Tool Lady". We saw her

brief presentation at NCQC, and she should be very enjoyable!

From Our President

In June we will have Debbie Maddy of

Calico Carriage Quilt Designs from

Texas. She will be our speaker and

then on Wednesday, June 15th, she

will be teaching "Tuscan Stars." It is a

great pieced quilt with no Y seams

(shown right). Trying to decide on

what fabrics to use will be the hardest

part of this quilt!

Keep working on those quilts for Hot

August Nights "California Dreamin'".

Sew long for now!

Matter of the Heart

I recently donated bear-making fur and supplies at a Guild meeting. I left supplies and patterns in a sewing

box that was given to me by my grandmother and absent-mindedly gave no thought to the importance and

value to me and daughter Kelly. She is asking about “Grandma’s Box”!

What was I thinking!!! I am hoping to hear from the person that received the donated box and allow me to

make an exchange. Thank you for considering this very emotional matter. Sharon Morris (869-2984)

Quilt Show Opportunity quilt ticket sales are off to a good start,

thanks to Angie Gohn, Sue Siefkin, Cathie Hoover,

and Joyce Compton. Joyce opened her home for the

Artists' Studio Tour April 23-24. They and their

helpers sold around $300 in tickets for the two quilts.

See Donna Shervington to sign out tickets so you can

sell them too. Think of all those families whose kids

have sold you cookies, magazines, etc.!

The opportunity quilts need to travel to quilt guilds,

quilt shows, quilt shops, and other venues where

tickets can be sold. Contact Yvonne Jones if you can

suggest possible places to show the quilts and/or you

can help with this effort.

Next quilt show meeting: June 12, 2:00 p.m., at

Donna Shervington's house.

Liz Carota, Quilt Show Chair

Warm Wrappings It is wonderful that the Warm Wrappings group brings

together quilters that are not only Guild members but

quilters in general. Our meetings are open to

everyone. It helps us to fulfil our Education tax

exempt status and at the same time we are giving

back to our community with the quilts that we make.

Several of our members learned to quilt by coming to

our meetings before they became members of CCQ.

We even have people who were past CCQ members

come sew and visit with us because some can’t

attend our Guild meetings for one reason or another.

Inviting members and neighbors of Calvary Baptist

Church has helped secure a meeting place for our

ever increasing group. Please invite a friend,

neighbor and/or family member to accompany you to

the Warm Wrappings meetings. Paddy has invited

several ladies from her Zumba group. They are new

to quilting and are having a great time becoming a

“quilter”. Maybe someday they will become CCQ

members too.
