On my behalf and on behalf of QCFI-Parivar we wish you and your family a Happy, Healthy and Prosperous New Year – 2016.

First of all, I should state that with the grace of God Almighty and co-operation of QCFI- fraternity which includes President, Vice-Presidents, Directors, Chapter Chair Persons, G.C. Members of all Chapters. The NCQC – 2015 at Chennai was a grand success, in spite of all odds and unexpected situations.

The floods in Chennai city shook us. Kudos to Chennaites for bringing back to normalcy in no time. I wish to express my gratitude to SRM University for their swift action, that was clearly visible on the day we arrived. There were no traces of flood water in the campus. Thanks for their help rendered in organising all the events of the convention.

Even though some organisations did not participate in the convention, the number of teams presented their case studies were 1263. It was decided to organise a supplementary convention from 6th to 8th February 2016 in Chennai for the benefit of those teams who could not participate.

We are ever grateful to Dr. A.K. Mittal for his guidance, encouragement to go ahead the schedule of NCQC-2015. He was always a reckoning force, monitoring to perform in an excellent way in all the activities of the forum during his tenure as President. We are sure, we will not miss him. His blessings and guidance will be always with us as President-Emeritus.

We are lucky to have Sri S.J. Kalokhe as the President of the Forum, who is well aware of ground realities of the forum since the last three decades. I could see his practical approach from the first meeting of NCQC -2015 he chaired. I solicit his direction to perform better under his leadership.

1. Introduction: It was the first day of the last month of the year 2015, we at QCFI-HQ were discussing the mode of transport to take the packed NCQC Material to Chennai by road or by luggage van of the train or by self. But the next morning all channels of T.V telecasting the breaking news that it was out burst of clouds over Chennai city and rain water flooded all over the lanes & by-lanes, on roads and highways. It was record raining of last 100 years for two days. Ground floors of multistoried buildings and houses were merged in flood water with utensils and furniture floating in dark without electricity. All modes of communications were cut off. City was on stand still for two days, people living with knee level water without food.

All trains and flights to and fro Chennai were grounded where they are and wheels jammed on the ground.

We all were saddened and worried that what will happen to NCQC with 15 days left. For us at secunderabad there were calls and calls, SMS and e-mails enquiring the status and with a few requests to postpone the event. Only reply from us was “Let us wait and watch and till now the convention is on and please do not haste to cancel your tickets”.

With grace of God the Almighty the rain stopped, flood water started receding, which gave some solace to us. After three days power supply was back and communication lines connected. The team Chennai was in dilemma but confident in fast recovery to normalcy. Salute to Chennaites really they were back to near normalcy in a week time, with clear roads, trains & flights running.

It was decided that QCFI-HQ team consisting of President, Vice-Presidents, Executive Director along with host chapter Chairman, Secretary, organizing committee members shall visit the city areas specifically road from Airport and railway stations to the venue and to inspect a few hotels, where participants booked the rooms to stay and also food and water there.

They found everything OK and satisfactory, hence decided to conduct the convention as per schedule. Hats off to the Organizing Committee Members for their courageous decision and confidence level.

Accordingly our team from QCFI-HQ and Hyderabad Chapter arrived Chennai on 15th December 2015 safe, secure and enjoying the trip. To our pleasant surprise, the venue, SRM University campus has shown no traces of flood water or even water marks on the walls or pathways, as if there were no rains forget about floods. We settled and started working to conduct the events. Now the results is a grand successes with a thumping participation of 1263 teams with around 8000 delegates & guest.

My participation in QCFI National Conventions started from 1995 wherein Chennai Chapter was the host Chapter. In this journey of 20 years, this convention was once again hosted by Chennai Chapter in 2015 was an unique in all

aspects from seeing devastation of rain water and floods to the presentation of QC Case-Studies in world class venue unparallel till date in the last three decades.

The 29th QCFI-National Convention on Quality Concepts started on 18th December and concluded on 21st December 2015 hosted by Chennai Chapter and Venue was SRM University, Kattankulathur, Chennai.

2. The theme of Convention: Presently, industrial scenario in India is changing rapidly in an unprecedented way because of the mission and objective of the Central Government for fast growth and development with a vision and that is theme of NCQC-2015, ie. “Make in India-A Vision Through Quality Concepts.” To withstand the domestic and global competition with innovations in manufacturing Quality Products and rendering world class services, organizations have to have human and technological expertise to excel in the business. QCFI is dedicated to contribute its knowledge and experience to develop 'skill India' in the country for the success of 'Make In India' the path for progress.

3. The Convention Venue: The convention venue was SRM University (Sri. Ramaswamy Memorial University), Kattankulathur, Chennai, a co-educational private university, 40 kms away from the city of Chennai - A wonderful, amazing location of town in itself. I would like to say that in last 20 years such venue was never available for annual conventions. There are so many specialties in the venue. The first there was no need of a pandal. An air conditioned Dr. T.P. Ganesan auditorium of 3500 seating capacity with a wide dais was available for inaugural and valedictory sessions. Thanks are due to Dr. K.S. Babai for getting this venue with her personal efforts.

All events of convention were organized in The Basic engineering building, School of law, School of Management, College of Structural Engineering and School of Bio-Engineering situated in a series and of course DR. T.P. Ganesan auditorium, the only one in India.

10. Catering: Food and hospitality got appreciation from almost all the participants of the convention for Quality, Quantity, Cleanliness, and Hygiene, Taste and Timeliness.

11. Knowledge Test: Knowledge Test has given fruitful results in learning to shop floor employees. This test motivated them to learn about Statistical Tools and team operation systems to solve work related problems collectively. This year the knowledge test for Quality Circles was conducted at III & IV floor of Basic Engineering Building in four halls and for LQC in the seminar hall of school of management from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM with some space problem in two sessions. It went smoothly with the cooperation of circles and the help of teachers as invigilators provided by Host Chapter.

As a co-ordinator of this event I am thankful to invigilators, hall managers and judges from different chapters like Bangalore, Chennai, Madurai and Varanasi. My Special Thanks to Shri. M. Suresh of Madurai Chapter in helping me all the way.

12. Case-Study Presentation (Hall Management and Evaluation): On 19th and 20th December 2015 case-study presentations were held in 60 parallel halls in School of Law , School of Management, School of Architecture and Bio-Engineering. I find no appropriate adjectives to praise Shri. R. Srinivasan and his team of Hyderabad Chapter and Vizag Chapter for their work done. Their services in collecting the results timely and support to judges is laudable. As regards the evaluation of Case-Studies, the first step is Pre-evaluation, which was done by two well experienced Directors, Shri. S. Srinivasan & Sri. P.V. Satyavratan

The second step was evaluation of presentation skills in the convention venue.

This year I felt paucity of Judges, but I am very much thankful to Chennai chapter for timely providing senior Quality Practitioners as jury.

Bharathi, Chairman, Mumbai Chapter and his team members have standardized the system in such a way that every think went off smoothly.

With the Grace of God and enormous blessings of the lovers of Quality Concepts, in spite of such a devastating flood just two weeks before the date of National Convention, our NCQC'15 set a new bench mark of success.

All the events, starting from Press Meet, Registration, Model Presentation, Inaugural Session, Quiz, Knowledge Test, Case Studies Presentation in 60 Parallel Sessions, Skit Competition, Award Distribution, Valedictory Session, Industrial Visit, Food etc. had gone smoothly without any tension.

Of course, this we could achieve with the help of all our Chapters and Board of Directors, especially, the host Chapter-Chennai in general and the Chennai Chapter Core Teams dedication and SRM University's cooperation in particular. Right from the Registrar to the student volunteers have rendered unconditional support. The contribution of the Mr. Thirumurgan, the Estate Officer of SRM University as an Omnipresent in the campus, making available of whenever and whatever facility we wished for.

About 7500+ delegates and guests participated in this convention from 362 organizations. Out of 1353 circles registered, 1263 have participated. For those teams who could not participate in this convention but have completed other formalities (pre-evaluation, etc.) due to the fear of getting caught in the midst epidemic breakout immediately after the floods, Board has taken decision to have one Supplementary Convention from 6th to 8th Feb'16 at Chennai itself in response to many requests from the concerned teams/organizations.

I am in search of appropriate word to thanks all the members of our core team from QCFI Chennai Chapter i.e. you all, including Mr Ramchandran and Mr Bhasker, but even after 4 days of my search there is no word, which can correctly appreciate the efforts made by you to make this NCQC’15 a new bench mark in in many odds. This grand success would not have been possible without the selection of such venue, planning for more than one year. We appreciate all of your untried efforts and look forward for continued fruitful association in future too.

Shri. P. V. Satyavratan

Dr.A.Sanjeeva Rao

Dear Dr .Mittal,

Once again a Big Congrats to Chennai Chapter under the stewardship of Sri Mayuranathan& team & HQ team under the leadership of Mr. D K Srivastava for the excellent conduct of NCQC 2015 under trying circumstances.

Shri. K.Somanathan,Director-QCFI

Already I mentioned in a mail that Prof Mittal is a complete man. The term of a complete man never finished. It always help in ignition, inspiration and motivation.

There is a proverb in English word. " IF YOU ORDER A MAN, HE WILL DO THE JOB REASONABLY WELL. BUT IF YOU GIVE HIM THE FREEDOM AND AUTHORITY, THE JOB BECOMES HIS PERSONAL MISSION. "

We seen in the recent past that holding NCQC IN CHENNAI WITH MAINTAINING ALL QUALITATIVE NORMS was a personal mission of HQ AND CHENNAI CHAPTER. They deserve our salute from the heart. But Prof Mittal was the preacher on those crisis days and a silent source of motivator behind all the major decision making.

QCFI CAN NOT AFFORD THE LUXURY IN MISSING PROF MITTAL IN OUR FORTHCOMING EVENTFUL ACTIVITIES. Let's start a new QCFI beginning with our PRESIDENT EMERITUS in centerfold.

Shri. Joydev Sen Gupta

It is always honor and privilege for me to be associated with you. While having with you, I do admire an approach towards possibility thinking, excellence and flawless execution demonstrated by you throughout your stint with QCFI as president. Great personal and professional learning for me ……….

Hope you will continue to support and guide QCFI to surpass all the records under the able leadership of Mr. Kalokhe and Mr. D.K.Shrivastava with the help of directors, HQ and all the chapters.

I take this opportunity to appreciate Chennai Chapter, SRM & QCFI HQ for setting up a benchmark for other chapters in organizing NCQC in future. A meticulous planning and flawless execution made NCQC 2015 a memorable one for all of us.

Wish you all the best for future endeavors.
