Notes from Ki: Headlines – Provides a gateway or entry point to the story. People might find the story in an RSS Feed, on Facebook or Twitter, all they may see is the headline so it needs to grab their attention. For example, with a newspaper you can look at the headline along with an image to get context clues to decide if you want to read the whole story. On the web, headlines are more self contained and are how people decide to click through to read the story.

Adding Content: PostsThere are two ways to add Bylines to your post:

One: Add the name of an editor who has a Person in Core Publisher. This will create a link in the Byline to their People Page.

Janeen Williamson4/11/2013Teasers allow text to show up for posts on aggregate pages. If you don't put a teaser on your post, you will only see the headline on aggregate pages. I think this is a bug, though that should be fixed in a future sprint.

If you create your text in a text editor (like MS Word) and paste it into the Body field, you’ll want to erase the stray formatting code from the text editor before adding it to your Post.• Copy and paste your text into an editor like Notepad to

You are not limited by time, so in your body you can include much more like links to related content or websites,graphs, charts, numbers, video and more facts. You can tease this on the air, by saying go to our website to listen to the full interview.

Step One:Choose the video that you want to add to your post and copy the URL (not the Embed code).

You can also add audio players to your post by placing your cursor where you want the player to appear and hitting the AUDIO button.

Add a description of your audio that will appear on the post. If you do not want to add a description, just hit Cancel.

You can add inline images to your post by placing your cursor where you want the image to appear and hitting the IMAGE button.

Finding Images for your Posts

Why Creative Commons?Creative Commons is a free to use diverse image collection

that you use to find images for your posts, as long as you respect citing and licensing.

What does Creative Commons mean? A Creative Commons license notes how you may use an artist’s

work on your website. At NPR.org, we use images that are:• Attribution (by) – meaning that you can use and edit image if

you give the artist/photographer credit• Noncommercial (nc) – meaning that you can use and edit the

image for noncommercial purposes only.

Note:• We don’t use No Derivative Works (nd) because Core

Publisher automatically crops uploaded photos, which goes against that license.

• Never use Share-alike (sa) photos, because that license gives that artist permission to use any image on NPR.org.

Step One:Go to http://www.flickr.com and enter the term that you are searching for in the Search box. Click on the Search option.

Step Two:Select the Advanced Search option.

To schedule a post to be published later:1.Click into the Schedule field.2.Select the date that you want to schedule the post from the calendar.3.Enter the date and time that you want the post to publish. 4.Hit the Schedule button.

Searching, Browsing and Managing Content

How can I search or browse through all of the content that I have created or published on my site?You can browser through all of your content and execute batch tasks on it (i.e. Delete, Publish, Unpublish) using fields in your Content Manager.

Use the Search field to browse through your content using keywords.

The Author, Status and Type dropdowns allow you to make your search more specific.

Core Publisher will automatically save drafts of your posts, but you can manually save a draft at any time.

To get to your Saved Drafts:1.Select Find Content from your top admin menu.2.Select the Drafts tab.3.Select the draft that you want to access.
