The shape of the pier follows the flow of forces. For the standard spans, the pier gradually widens at the top to support the bearing under the box webs. Cantilever piers (if any) will be designed for specific eccentricities & sizes will be confirmed thereon. To prevent the direct collision of vehicle to pier, a Jersey shaped crash barrier of 1.0m height above existing road level shall be provided along the pier with a gap of 25mm between the crash barrier and outer face of pier. The shape of upper part of pier has been so dimensioned that a required clearance of 5.5m is always available on roadside beyond vertical plane drawn on outer face of crash barrier. In such a situation, the minimum height of rail above the existing road is 9.00m. The longitudinal center-to-center spacing of bearings over a pier would be about 1.7m. The space between the elastomeric bearings will be utilized for placing the lifting jack required for the replacement of elastomeric bearing. An outward slope of 1:200 will be provided at pier top for the drainage due to spilling of rainwater, if any.

The Geotechnical reports given in the bid documents are extracts of GI report of the N.M. Metro Contractors of CIDCO, which are of the Soil Investigations done nearer to the proposed alignment of Depot approach viaduct. So, this has been given as indicative information of the Bidders to have fair idea of the sub-soil condition of the proposed viaduct works under this bid. The Contractor, however, need to perform confirmatory boreholes at every pier location along the alignment for soil investigation and preparation of Geo-tech Report, prior to start of Design & Construction.

Validation of viaduct designs from IIT, Bombay as a third party Proof check with a schedule of selected designs out of total viaduct design as approved by GC (in addition to 100% proof check by GC); including all costs, co-ordinations, interface, etc.

Kindly confirm whether all designs are to be validated by IIT. If not how many specific designs will have to be validated by IIT. It is presumed that cost of validation will be borne by CIDCO.

Sample span as a representative design will be proof checked by IIT, Bombay and same will be decided / informed after award of contract. All such cost of validations through IIT, Bombay shall be borne by the Contractor.
