Cornerstone Connection - Fall 2018 Page 1 of 4 It was a busy summer within the walls of Cornerstone. After much sorting and purging, everything was packed into boxes and moved out to prepare for some renovations. A fresh coat of paint, new carpet, and the replacement of a wall rejuvenated the building. The parking lot also received a ‘facelift’, including the addition of some sidewalk games. It was a lot of hard work from a variety of people. We thank the talented, skilled people who made the building look fresh and clean. We were able to open the doors and welcome the children to a ‘new’ Cornerstone. Both the staff and students were excited with the changes. The old, worn look is gone and the new has come! “Built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone” – Ephesians 2:20 Please continue to pray for the staff of Cornerstone as we strive to help children understand the importance of ‘renovating’ their young lives. Serving Christ is not a popular choice in today’s society; conflicting views are numerous. We need Godly wisdom to assist these children. It is our prayer that every child, who enrols at Cornerstone, develops a personal relationship with Jesus Christ and chooses to renovate their lives for Him. CCA TEACHER SPOTLIGHT Mrs. Hilary Ryan

the joy I feel when I witness our senior students encouraging and investing in our youngest students, but the very best part of my job is hearing these children lift their voices in worship. It’s allowing extra time at prayer time because I know certain students always have a lot to talk to God about. The very best part of my job is leading these little children to know Jesus a bit more everyday. A: What are you looking forward to this year at school? I am excited just to be back after a maternity leave. I’m eager to dive back into teaching and develop relationships with the children who have been entrusted to me.

Q: Can you tell us a little bit about yourself and your family?

A: We are a busy family of six! Tyler and I met at Trinity Christian College on the south side of Chicago, and we have been married for 15 years. Sophie, Tommy, and Charlie are in grades 5, 1, and junior kindergarten, respectively, while Gemma is in part time daycare. We live just outside Napanee and attend church at Westside Fellowship Christian Reformed Church in Kingston. I grew up nearby and feel really blessed to be able to raise my family in this beautiful, small town. Q: What classes do you teach? A: This year I am excited to be teaching grades 1, 2, and 3. It isn’t my first time teaching this combination, and I am loving the students’ enthusiasm and eagerness to participate in all aspects of our class. I am also teaching art to the senior classes which makes me very

happy, since art was my specialization in college. Q: Why did you decide to become a teacher?

A: Both of my parents were teachers, and I had decided that I was absolutely NOT going to be a teacher! God has an excellent sense of humour. He spoke into my life with a loud and clear call to teaching, and not just teaching but a specific call to Cornerstone that was undeniable. Q: What do you enjoy most about teaching at Cornerstone? A: Cornerstone has been my teaching home for 14 years. This school community has been my (our) family. I could talk about the fulfillment I feel when students finally “get” a challenging concept, or the fun it is to plan a new and interesting lesson, and I could try to explain how I am always learning from my students or

This summer we undertook renovations to our school facility, including new carpet, paint throughout, and a remodeling of our office! We believe in planning for the future of Cornerstone

as we continue to provide leading academics and Biblical teaching to the next generation. Would you consider investing in our future by donating towards this improvement of our facility?

Q: How have your children benefited from this school?

A: Since becoming a "Cornerstone family", our children have both made significant academic improvement, and we continually see how they are developing a firm grasp of Biblical principles.

Q: What do your children love about Cornerstone?

A: Our daughter says she loves Cornerstone because, “The teachers lift me up and show me love. They really care about me.” And, our son says, "I love Cornerstone because everyone makes me feel special (and there is a cross on the roof).”

Our students work hard and play hard. Here’s what we’ve been up to outside of the classroom.

CCA FAMILY SPOTLIGHT The Northmore Family Q: How long have you been a Cornerstone family, and why did you decide to send your children here?

A: We've always had a desire to have our children educated in an environment that would provide a strong foundation for life, combining both academic excellence and our Christian beliefs. Our children, Destiny (10) and Emmanuel (8), have attended Cornerstone for two years. Q: What do you appreciate most about Cornerstone?

A: The Cornerstone staff is a true blessing, not only to our children but to us as parents. We have wonderful, highly qualified, and competent teachers who truly care about our children, their academic success, and spiritual growth.
