The Secret Place

Psalm 91:1 He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

John 14:1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. [2] In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. [3] And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. [4] You know the way to the place where I am going."


God’s plan & Purpose for us

Benefits of the cross

Rhema versus Logos

They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me.

4. Effective ministry – Reveal His strategies for ministry and intercession

“For He whom God has sent speaks the words [rhema] of God, for God does not give the Spirit by measure.” (Jn. 3:34, NKJ)

He will reveal his plans and purpose for us, Give us insights into people and cultures ahead of time. He will show us what He is doing. He will give us creative strategies for ministry. Some churches are doing Spiritual reading at fair grounds and listening to God for people.

5. Authoritative teaching“The words [rhema] that I speak to you I do not speak on My own

authority; .” (Jn. 14:10, We will be able to do bible studies with God and mediate more

effectively

Father I recognize that I have stopped asking to hear from God, in fact I have even discounted the value of prophetic voice. I ask your forgiveness. I want to hear from God. I desire earnestly spiritual gifts especially the gift of prophecy.

I ask you to speak to me to teach me to know your voice, and to speak forth the words he gave me two others to encourage, comfort, and build up the body of Christ. Thank you

What to Look for in a Spiritual Counselor:

1. A close friend, one who knows the sheep, and whose sheep recognize his voice.

2. One who has a solid biblical orientation.

3. One who can sense the voice of the Spirit of God in his own heart.

4. One who is willing to commit himself to the sheep, who will invest his time and energy, and is willing to lay down his life for the sheep for whom he is responsible.

5. He himself receives counsel.

6. He is ahead of me in the area.

Forgiveness for spiritual abuse

Father I have found it difficult trust leaders as a result of the things I have suffered at the hands of leaders and have now been reluctant to consider letting my guard down and asking anyone to be a spiritual counselor for me. I need help in this area, to trust again. I now that I should forgive but it is hard, please help me.

7 Biblical principles that support for the concept that spontaneous thoughts are the voice of the

spirit world1. All thoughts are not our thoughts.

II Cor. 10:3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. [4] The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. [5] We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.


2. Paga – the chance encounter (Pop into your head or dreamed)

The Hebrew word for intercession is paga, which literally means “to strike or light upon by chance,” or “an accidental intersecting.”

GE 28:10 Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Haran. [11] When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. [12] He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. [


3. The river of the Holy Spirit flows within the believer’s heart.

JN 7:[38] Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." [39] By this he meant the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were later to receive. Up to that time the Spirit had not been given, since Jesus had not yet been glorified.


4. Naba, the Hebrew word for prophet, literally means “to bubble up.”

GE 20:6 Then God said to him in the dream, "Yes, I know you did this with a clear conscience, and so I have kept you from sinning against me. That is why I did not let you touch her. 5. We are a temple of the Holy Spirit.

PR 20:27 The lamp of the LORD searches the spirit of a man; it searches out his inmost being.

7. We are a branch grafted into a vine.

JN 15:5 "I am the vine; you are the branches. If a man remains in me and I in him, he will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.


1. They are like your own thoughts, but spontaneous, not analytical

2. They can easily come as God speaking in the first person.

3. They are often light, gentle, and easily cut off by any exertion of self (own thoughts, will, etc.).

4. They will have an unusual content; they will be wiser, more loving and motive-oriented than your thoughts.

Character of God’s Thoughts


5. They will cause a special reaction within your being (e.g., a sense of excitement, conviction, faith, life, awe and peace).

6. When embraced, they carry with them a fullness of strength to carry them out, and a joy in doing so.

7. Your spiritual senses are trained as time goes on, and it becomes easier to hear God.

God is speaking to you all the time, and you do hear his voice. Formerly, you were just grouping all thoughts together and assuming they were yours.

Mediation applies the following principles

1. Gal. 2:20 – I let Christ live through me

2. Rom 12:1 – I am yielding my outer faculties to the indwelling Spirit (to “Flow” – John 7:38)

3. Is. 11:2 When reasoning together with God. I receive a spirit of wisdom and understanding and knowledge

4. John 5:19, 20, 30 – I’m living as Jesus did. Out of divine initiative , doing what I see and hear my father doing

1. Joshua 1: [8] Do not let this Book of the Law depart from your mouth; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.

2. PS 1:2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night. PS 1:3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.

meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful.”

Meditate on the Word to understand the concepts – the heart of it – in

relation to the character of God. Ps. 119:15 “I meditate on your precepts and consider your ways.”


Meditation involves 2 things:Praying the Scriptures – “Soaking in the Word”Beholding the Lord – “Soaking in the Supernatural”

Soaking in the Supernatural – Beholding HimA passion for God’s presence will bring us into the

supernatural realm. As believers, scripture encourages us to set our

attention on heavenly things. In fact it is some what of a command.

Col. 3:1-3 “…set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things. For you died, and your life is now hidden with Christ in God.”


Meditation on Scripture

Ps 29There are seven attributes of the voice of the Lord 3 The voice of the LORD is over the waters; the God of

glory thunders, the LORD thunders over the mighty waters.

4 The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is majestic.

5 The voice of the LORD breaks the cedars; the LORD breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.

7 The voice of the LORD strikes with flashes of lightning.

8 The voice of the LORD shakes the desert; the LORD shakes the Desert of Kadesh.

Defining Kinds of Vision


Principles of Visionaries

1. Make it your goal to be like Jesus, Who was a constant visionary (John 5:19,20; 8:38).

2. We are to look for vision (Habakkuk 2:1,2).

3. We are to look in the vision until the vision has stopped flowing (Daniel 4:10,13; 7:2,9,13 NASB).


Principles of Visionaries

4. We realize that we can have encounters with Jesus, God, and angels in visions in our minds, and that these are actual spiritual encounters (I Kings 3:5-15; Dan. 4:4,5,10,13,14; 7:1,13-16; Matt. 1:20; 2:12,19,22).

5. A natural way to present the eyes of our hearts before God is to visually enter a Bible story and allow God to move in it as He wills, or to fix our eyes upon Jesus, asking Him to meet us and shower us with His grace (Hebrews 12:1,2; Revelation 4:1,2).

Principles for Interpreting Dreams

1. Most dreams are symbolic.

2. The symbols will come from the dreamer's life.

3. The dream generally speaks of the concerns which your heart is currently facing.

4. The dreamer's heart will leap and "witness" and say, "Aha!" when it hears the right interpretation.

5. Never make a major decision in your life based only on a dream without receiving additional confirmation.


How to Recall Your Dreams1. Say to yourself, “I believe dreams contain a

valid message.”

2. Ask God to speak to you through dreams as you fall asleep.

3. Put your journal beside your bed and immediately record your dreams upon awakening.

4. Get eight hours of sleep.

5. Awaken naturally, without the use of an alarm clock.

What is an Ungodly belief

Ungodly beliefs don’t line up with the heart of God, or God’s word yet we believe them anyway.

o Rom 12:2 And do not be conformed to this

world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind (from ungodly beliefs), that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

o Prov. 23:7 says “ As a man believes in his heart so he is.” We are what we believe.

2CO 10:3 For though we live in the world, we do not wage war as the world does. [4] The weapons we fight with are not the weapons of the world. On the contrary, they have divine power to demolish strongholds. [5] We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.


Dealing with Ungodly Beliefs

“To replace ungodly beliefs we need more than a ”one-liner” from the Bible that states an opposite to my old belief system. It is not enough for our brain to memorize a new verse which counters the ungodly belief we are holding. We need more than a new verse; we need a new faith. Faith born in revelation, when God speaks into our heart enlightening us to new insights from the Holy Scripture”

14 Practical Suggestions for Journaling 1.Journal when you are alert and ready.

11. Skip a line when you move from God speaking to you speaking, and vice versa. Re-read your last entry before you begin your next entry

12. Review entire journal when notebook is full and write a brief summary.

and responsibility.
