The advert being placed at the bottom taking up the width of the page is also a convention of a free paper. The advert is advertising a health product, which can also be classed as a convention of a January paper due to the public wanting to have a healthier life style after the Christmas break.

A conventional masthead is used at the top of the page. It contains the date and the website for the paper. The plug used advertises pages within the paper. The date and website address layout is un-conventional due to it being vertically positioned. They have used a San Serif style to connote a modern paper for a modern audience.

The colours used within the masthead represent a traditional non-biased paper. The use a red background illustrating that the paper is free. This colour would attract people’s attention to the paper.

A news and brief is used here and is divided up into four different sections (News, Showbiz, Music and Sport). This allows people to see the main stories in the paper for each section. The news and brief is a convention used in many free papers today. It is there because it saves people time looking through the paper for a certain section.

The main story is about ‘Rubbish Backlog’. There is no picture due to it being off-putting and not attractive. The main story has two columns including the Editor of the story and a section telling you what page the story is on. A San-Serif font is used to highlight that it is a main story and to draw the reader’s attention to it.

The secondary story is about a celebrity (Kate Middleton). They have included a picture of a celebrity due to it appealing to the audience reading the paper.
