Course Objective
To give the personnel, functioning at the awareness level, an understanding of their roles
and limitation while operating at a confined space rescue incident
![Page 4: Confined Space Rescue Awareness](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062221/5681342a550346895d9b1a8d/html5/thumbnails/4.jpg)

Awareness Level
This level represents the minimum capabilities of a responder who, in the course of his or her
regular job duties, could be called upon to respond to, or could be the first on the scene of,
a technical rescue incident. This level can involve search, rescue, and recovery
operations. Members of a team at this level are generally not considered rescuers.

Confined Space Statistics 1997-2001
• 458 Total fatalities• 22% (97) occurring between 10 am and 12
pm• Fatality every four (4) days• Mining, Agriculture & Farming industry
posed the greatest risk
![Page 25: Confined Space Rescue Awareness](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062221/5681342a550346895d9b1a8d/html5/thumbnails/25.jpg)
25
60% of all confined space fatalities are from would be rescuers!
![Page 26: Confined Space Rescue Awareness](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062221/5681342a550346895d9b1a8d/html5/thumbnails/26.jpg)

29
Confined Space
• Is large enough and so configured that an employee can bodily enter and perform assigned work
![Page 30: Confined Space Rescue Awareness](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062221/5681342a550346895d9b1a8d/html5/thumbnails/30.jpg)
30
Confined Space
• Has limited or restricted means for entry or exit- Tanks, silos, storage bins, hoppers, vaults and
pits are spaces that may have limited means of entry or exit
![Page 31: Confined Space Rescue Awareness](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062221/5681342a550346895d9b1a8d/html5/thumbnails/31.jpg)

32
Permit Confined Space
• A confined space that has one or more of the following characteristics:
- Contains or has a potential to contain a hazardous atmosphere
- Contains a material that has the potential for engulfing an entrant
![Page 33: Confined Space Rescue Awareness](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062221/5681342a550346895d9b1a8d/html5/thumbnails/33.jpg)
33
Permit Confined Space
- Has an internal configuration such that an entrant could be trapped or asphyxiated by inwardly converging walls or by a floor which slopes downward and tapers to a smaller cross-section
- Contains any other recognized serious safety or health hazard
![Page 34: Confined Space Rescue Awareness](https://reader035.fdocuments.in/reader035/viewer/2022062221/5681342a550346895d9b1a8d/html5/thumbnails/34.jpg)
