Variety Concert – Education Week
This week our school celebrates “Education Week” with the annual Variety Concert. Tickets are still available at the front office for $5 (adult) and $1 (child). Tickets will not be available at the door.
We have scheduled two evening performances this Wednesday evening, 18 September: 5.30 – 6.45 pm and 7 – 8.15 pm.
As we have some students who are not allowed to be photographed, members of the audience are not permitted to take photos or videos of the performances. The school has arranged to have video footage and some photographs taken and provided at low cost. DVDs will be available for $1.00 later this week.
Delayed release of NAPLAN 2013 Student Reports to Parents
We have received the following information from the Board of Studies in relation to the release of Student Reports to Parents for NAPLAN this year:
On Thursday 5 September ACARA identified an error in the placement of the national average markers
on the Years 5 and 7 NAPLAN Student Reports for Language Conventions. Importantly the NAPLAN
student data is correct.
ACARA made the immediate decision to halt any further packaging and distribution of NAPLAN
reports while options regarding the distribution of correct NAPLAN Student Reports were considered.
ACARA is working closely with Test Administration Authorities (TAAs) in every state and territory to
ensure correct reports are distributed.
This matter may result in the delay of the distribution of student reports, possibly to the week of 13
October, however ACARA and TAAs will seek to minimise the delay.
School Holidays
School finishes for Term 3 at the end of this week for a two week vacation. Students and staff return to school on Tuesday, 8 October, following the long weekend. We wish everyone a safe holiday.
Choirboys Visiting Condo
This year, members of the band, the Choirboys have been mentoring high school students in playing drums. These students will be joining the band for a performance for primary students at the Condobolin Public School on the first Thursday back next term, 10 October at 11am. The cost is $2 per student.
The band will also be performing at the high school in the afternoon for high school students. An evening performance will be held at the RSL on the evening of Thursday, 10 October for the community.
Lunch Orders
Parents are reminded that students need to order their lunches by 9.30am to have a choice of delicious foods on the menu. We have a few students who are choosing not to order, or money arrives late. These children are restricted to purchasing a sausage roll, pie or vegemite sandwich after 9.30am.

Bike Week
This week is Bike Week across New South Wales. The following safety information comes from the Bicycle Safety website:
For young children to be able to play safely, an adult needs to supervise them closely and actively.
You need to make sure children are in a safe place to play, such as a backyard, fenced park or
recreational area. They should always be supervised by an adult. Roads, carparks, footpaths and
driveways are never safe places to play.
A young child's skull is soft and easily injured. So whenever children are riding wheeled toys or
bicycles, it is important that they are wearing a correctly fitted helmet that complies with Australian
Standards.
It is the responsibility of the adult to ensure helmets comply.
When buying a helmet
Some steps to take to ensure you get the right helmet and safety gear.
Take the child to the shop with you, to make sure the helmet fits properly.
It should sit two child finger widths above the child's eyebrows, and be neither too tight nor too
loose.
It should not be too heavy for the child's head and neck to carry.
Young children who wear helmets from the moment they start riding their first wheeled toy will be
safer from head injury, and are more likely to continue the practice throughout their lives. Use road
safety messages:
"No helmet, no bike."
"When everyone has their helmet and shoes on, we can ride our bikes."
"If anyone isn't wearing their helmet or shoes properly, we'll put the bikes away."
When supervising children, use opportunities to talk to them about:
How helmets and enclosed shoes keep us safe.
Why we must ride and play away from traffic - for instance, in the backyard or at the bike
track.
Why footpaths and driveways are never safe places to play.
Young children should never ride their bikes, scooters or skates without an adult closely supervising
them. Scooters and motorised toys also need to be supervised closely by an adult. They are harder to
control and can put children into danger quickly.
Make some family rules about safe play, talk about them with the children and then stick to them -
every time they are using bikes, trikes or scooters
