Our School - What is PBL

How does PBL work at Condobolin High School?

Throughout the normal school day students are given tickets when they demonstrate positive behaviours around the school. These tickets are placed into a ear box in the high shelter. A winner is then drawn from and year group boxes and they each receive a $20 canteen voucher.

When is the prize draw?

Prize draws will take place every second Friday. Our first draw took place in week 3 with follow up draws in week 5, 7 and 9. At the end of the term all the tickets will be combined into a large barrel and 3 tickets will be drawn out. The first ticket will receive a $100 Why Leave Town gift card, second ticket will receive a $50 WLT gift card and the third will receive a $25 gift card.

What does positive behaviour look like in our school?

At Condobolin High School students are encouraged to be

STRONGER, SMARTER and PROUDER.

Students can show this in many ways, here are a few examples;

- being on time to school

- being on time to class

- following instructions

- trying their best

- being prepared to learn

Welcome Back to Term Two! As this newsletter reaches you all of the students will have returned to face to face learning at school. There will be some modifications to the delivery of practical lessons in some subjects, extra cleaning around the school and a renewed focus on quality hygiene practices for everybody on site. At this point we will not be having any excursions, incursions, volunteers or any non-essential activities on school grounds. When these restrictions change we will notify the community. I would like to thank everybody that has played a role in helping us to maintain the continuity of learning for our students throughout this time. It has been extremely difficult for teachers, SLSO’s, our SASS staff and for families to turn education on its head and to do it in the space of a week. The effort shown by everyone was magnificent. A special mention to all the staff, students and parents who were able to access the online learning through Zoom that was undertaken over the last month. The willingness of staff and students to interact across that medium was outstanding and I thank you for making it work. Last week saw a fantastic fundraiser for the Agriculture Department. Mrs Earney organised for the sale of 4700 fingerlings. This was an amazing effort with the school making a tidy profit. If anyone is interested in purchasing some in the next round they will be delivered 10 June 2020. If you are interested please contact Mrs Earney at the school to place your order. Earlier this term we became aware of some security issues concerning a computer program called ‘Soundtrap’. Can I please encourage everyone to discuss this with their children and delete any Soundtrap’ account that they may have. Due to the security issues students are no longer able to access the site at school and as such we are unable to have the students delete their accounts at school. Over the last few weeks we have had a number of instances of community members hanging basketball nets on the courts. Unfortunately there are safety concerns around having nets hanging on the basketball courts. Nets that are hung will be removed. It would be greatly appreciated if you are able to pass this message on to anyone who may be hanging nets on the school courts.

Our School - Fish for Farm Dam—fundraiser



Our School - Agriculture continues even though we are not at school.

Stage 5 students are studying vegetable gardens. Before the

shut down the students planted their vegetable garden bed at

school. As we moved into online learning the students then

planted vegetable gardens at home. The weather has been so

kind that both the gardens at school and at home are growing

very well, with some students already able to harvest lettuce,

peas, beans, spinach, carrots and beetroot.

Condobolin High School was planning to attend the

Sydney Royal Easter Show in 2020 to exhibit Angora

goats. Unfortunately the show was cancelled but as an

Angora goat requires shearing every 6 months this still

had to be done. Thankyou to Mr Tim Currey for

shearing the goats for the school, he hasn’t shorn goats

before and said it was an experience. If you would like

to purchase either the wool or a goat please contact

the school.



Our School - Agriculture continues

Two Speckle Park steers arrived at school in mid March. Since COVID-19 has disrupted school, Mrs Earney took

them to her farm to feed and educate while the students are not at school. The steers have been named “Quayle”

and “Quartz” They are putting on weight and have started their education on how to be a school steer.

Poultry production has continued at school. Stage 4 incubated eggs in Term 1 and the 16 chicks that hatched have

been moved into the big pen and are now able to free-range outside during the day. Some of the egg producing

hens are moulting and so egg production has slowed, although Mr Speers did put some eggs under the broody

Plymouth Rock hen at Easter and the hen hatched 4 healthy chicks.

Our Junior Zoom Lessons began 11 May with a large number of students accessing lessons. After a few hiccups,

students were able to interact with their classroom teachers. Mrs Thomas even had Stage 4 playing a symphony

across Zoom with Water Jars.

The library has seen plenty of student activity over the end of Term 1 and the start of Term 2. Personal distance and cleanliness have been essential to make this activity safe. Students have been very good at maintaining these behaviours in the library and, at the end of each day, they have assisted in disinfecting the equipment they were using. This care for themselves, their peers and their environment is admirable. Thank you all! Thank you also to those students who have returned books. Returned books are quarantined for 3 days and then returned to the shelves. Our library collection of e-books and audio-books is on the Wheelers e-platform. This collection is available to both students and staff. To access this this collection: 1. On your device (computer, laptop, tablet or mobile) go to App store, Google play or Microsoft and download

the e-platform app 2. Find our school library: condobolin.wheelers.co 3. Log in with your user name (email address) and password (library1) – you only have to do this once 4. Pick a title and “borrow” the book 5. Read the e-book or listen to the audio book you have borrowed Until July 16 we also have access to Wheeler’s “Wellness” collection.
