Worship Notes:Participants: Dr Karl Haffner, our senior pastor, continues our sermon series, , witha sermon from Kay Starkey, mother of the groom, presents the Invocation. KevinStarkey and Nicole Wortham, who will be married tomorrow, read today’s Scripture. David Starkey, father of the groom, gives the Prayers of the People. Victor Brown, dean for enrollment at Kettering College, tells the Children’s Story. Jerry Taylor, our minister of worship and music, is the organist for today’s service.

About the music: As we gather for worship the Bells of Praise, under the direction of Joan UllothDorgan, play an arrangement by Indianapolis composer, Douglas Wagner, of Hymn 432,

and a setting of Derek Hakes’ contemporary Christian song, The Kettering Strings, under the direction of Maretta Alden, play George Frederic Handel’s from the “Suite in gminor” (HWV 432). This piece was originally for harpsichord alone and then transcribed by Handel and manyothers throughout the years.

(Hymn 12) was written by Henry van Dyke in 1907, using the melody from the last movementof Ludwig van Beethoven’s monumental “Ninth Symphony” which he composed in 1824.

(Holy Spirit, Wind and Flame), was composed in 2006 by Philadelphia composer, GregUnderwood for the “Spirit Ringers” of the Spirit of Joy Lutheran Church, Weddington, North Carolina.

is a setting of Hymn 607 using the more common Welsh tune,in an arrangement by Columbus, Ohio organists and composers, Janet Linker and Jane McFadden.

is the English title of the 10th movement of J.S. Bach’s cantata, which Bach composed in his first year at Leipzig. A transcription of this piece, originally

for voices, trumpets, oboes, strings and harpsichord, has been made for almost every medium from tennisballs rolling down the side of a mountain hitting marimba bars to pop bottle whistles. Chosen today to prepareour minds to receive the sermon, the original text reads

(Hymn 509) is partially based upon today’s sermon scripture. Written by JohnRippon, a British Baptist pastor in 1751, these words are most often sung to the early American tune,

which can be played on the piano using only the black keys (known as pentatonic.)

is a setting of Hymn No. 73 by Kevin McChesney who is considered one of today’s premierhandbell composers. Kevin lives in Colorado Springs with his wife Tracy, a handbell enthusiast and excellentringer, along with their two cats, Belle and Grace Note.

“On Living Well”Third message in series:

I. Live between Steps

II. Live Like . . .

A. The ____________________— Anchored to the __________

(2 Timothy 2:14-19 NIV) Keep reminding them of these things. Warn them before God againstquarreling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. (15) Do your best topresent yourself to God as one approved, a workman who does not need to be ashamed and whocorrectly handles the word of truth. (16) Avoid godless chatter, because those who indulge in it willbecome more and more ungodly. (17) Their teaching will spread like gangrene. Among them areHymenaeus and Philetus, (18) who have wandered away from the truth. They say that theresurrection has already taken place, and they destroy the faith of some. (19) Nevertheless, God'ssolid foundation stands firm, sealed with this inscription: "The Lord knows those who are his," and,"Everyone who confesses the name ofthe Lord must turn away from wickedness."

B. The ____________________— Clean to the _________

(2 Timothy 2:20-21) In a large house there are articles not only of gold and silver, but also of woodand clay; some are for noble purposes and some for ignoble.(21) If a man cleanses himself from the latter, he will be an instrument for noble purposes, madeholy, useful to the Master and prepared to do any good work.

C. The ____________________— Winsome to the __________

(2 Timothy 2:22-26) Flee the evil desires of youth, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, along with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. (23) Don't have anything to do withfoolish and stupid arguments, because you know they produce quarrels. (24) And the Lord'sservant must not quarrel; instead, he must be kind to everyone, able to teach, not resentful. (25)Those who oppose him he must gently instruct, in the hope that God will grant them repentanceleading them to a knowledge of the truth, (26) and that they will come to their senses and escapefrom the trap of the devil, who has taken them captive to do his will.
