GMC students use darts in math
Contributed photoStudents in Maj. Stephanie Williams sixth grade Accelerated Math class recently completed a probability project. Inthis project, students designed a dartboard that had four regions worth 100, 50, 25 and 10 points. Each of the regionsrepresented a different percentage of the total area of the board. Upon completion, students had to present theirboards to the class and explain how they found the probability of each region. Many students came up with challeng-ing shapes and designs, and no two boards were alike. These students worked very hard and showed their ability tosolve this challenging problem.
On Tuesday, March 1, Sinclair Christian Academy and Mayor Bentley dedicated SCA’s new school building. The following day,all SCA students and teachers gathered in the sanctuary to celebrate the new building and the first annual Christian EducationWeek in Milledgeville. Pastor Andy Schulze gave a short sermon on dedicating the new building. Afterwards, everyone gath-ered at the new school building for a time of prayer. Dr. Bob Poole introduced Pastor Andy. He then prayed over the newbuilding in hopes of it becoming a great blessing to the community around it. As the only Christian school in Milledgeville,SCA works hard to make sure students achieve their goals in academics as well as in their relationship with Christ. SCA hopesto become a great example to everyone around them and prepares their students to do likewise when they are out in thecommunity.

Baldwin County Firefighters visit Midway Elementary
Midway’s second grade students are completing a unit study of non-fictionstories. One of the stories is all about a trip to a local firehouse. On Tuesday,Feb. 8, Baldwin County Firefighters from the Hardwick Station and CentralState Station came to visit and talk with the students about a day in the life ofa firefighter. The firefighters connected what was happening in their day withwhat the students were doing at the same time. For instance, they explainedthat they come on their shift at 7 a.m.; then they talked with the children aboutwhat is happening in their day at that time. Many of the students said theywere on the bus or in the car on the way to school. After this presentation, allof the students were able to observe the different kinds of fire and rescuetrucks. The firefighters explained their gear and how each truck is used dur-ing an emergency. The second grade teachers were treated to a ride on theladder truck. On Friday, Feb. 11, Mr. Jeff McAfee of Fowler Flemister Concreteand a volunteer firefighter with North Baldwin Fire Rescue came to theschool with all of his gear. He explained all of the gear and the students wereallowed to have a hands-on look at it. They really enjoyed being timed whiletrying to put on his fireman’s suit. In return, for this wonderful presentation,on Valentine’s Day the teachers took goodies and snacks to the Hardwick FireStation for the firefighters to enjoy. Midway appreciates all of BaldwinCounty’s fine fire and rescue workers and volunteers.

The agriculture classes of Bradley K. Hall, agriculture education teacher atBaldwin High School have received a generous donation from the privatelibrary of Dr. Harriet Whipple, professor of biological and environmental sci-ence at Georgia College. The donation included a complete set of The NewIllustrated Encyclopedia of Gardening. Several books received in the dona-tion were horticulture and plant science books specifically written for use inthe state of Georgia. The books are unique in the fact that they were writ-ten by Georgians for the distinct purpose of simplifying the state’s diverseregions, soil types, and varied weather conditions. Dr. Whipple made thedonation under the circumstances that the students only use the books with“dirty hands, because that is how they were meant to be handled and used.”
