COMMUNITY REPORT 2012—2013

TUCSON BOTANICAL GARDENS is a private 501(c) 3 non-profit organization supported by income generated through admissions, memberships, gift shop sales, special events, classes and rentals, contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations, and grants from the City and County. Volunteers assist the staff with almost every aspect of Gardens’ operations.

VISION STATEMENT

The Tucson Botanical Gardens, a tranquil oasis in the heart of Tucson, strives to be recognized and respected as the best small

public garden in America.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Tucson Botanical Gardens promotes responsible and appropriate use of plants and water in a desert environment

through education and demonstration and provides a place of beauty and tranquility for Tucson residents and visitors.

Zen Garden was refreshed using a chicken/turkey gravel mixture and Bunker Sand

The “oasis bed” in the Xericape Garden was redesigned and replanted using white-blooming plants

Hundreds of rocks and minerals from the Harrison Yocum collections were incorporated into the Gardens landscaping

Visitor Services 812 memberships sold in the gift shop

Hosted the Garden District Neighborhood Association Holiday Party

Horticultural Therapy 118 outreach programs were delivered with 1377

individuals served

3 apprentices in partnership with local high schools

Developed and delivered a staff training program for programs working with people with disabilities in Guyana

Introduced a new summer outreach program

The Gardens are a clean, safe, and beau ful place where I can teach my children to love the outdoors and love green things!
