    Please see important dates and events of the East Jamaica Conference of Seventh-day Adventists below.

    (1) Big City Evangelism Summit & LEA General Election - September 15 & 21, 2013

    (Must be communicated to the Church on Sabbath September 7, 2013)

    The biggest event on the Calendar of event for 2013 - 2014 is now on the move. In preparation for the great work

    ahead of us between now and 2014, the leadership of our church must come together in a united way so that the Holy

    Spirit can prepare us for the work ahead.

    We crave your attendance to The Big City Evangelism Summit and Lay Evangelistic Association General Election -

    St. Thomas (Zone 4) on Sunday, September 15, 2013 beginning at 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. at the Morant Bay

    Seventh-day Adventist Church.

    The Kingston & St. Andrew Big City Evangelism Summit and Lay Evangelistic Association General Meeting will take

    place on Sabbath September 21, 2013 at the Hagley Park SDA Church beginning at 9:00 am. It will be a high day of

    prayer, praise and inspiration.

    For both the St. Thomas and Kingston & St. Andrew versions of the Summit, we expect to see and specially invite all

    Pastors, Elder(First Elders in particular), Personal Ministries Leaders and Secretaries, Sabbath School Superintendents and

    Secretaries, Community Services Leaders and Volunteers, Youth and Pathfinder Leaders, Lay Preachers, Bible

    Workers, Past and present students of the School of Evangelism, medical Missionaries and other interests.

    These will be critical meetings to the success of our Big City Campaign in 2014.

    The days program forSunday September 15, 2013 will include Devotional Charge by Pastor Glen O Samuels,

    Ministerial Secretary- JAMU. On Sabbath September 21, 2013, the main speaker will be Pastor Everett Brown,

    President of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Jamaica.

    A full outline of the Big City Mission Strategy and general election of the Lay Evangelistic Association Officers will

    take place at both meetings.

    (2) Thanksgiving Service for Pastor E.R.E. Wright Set For- Sunday September 8, 2013

    Pastor Ernie Wright, who served as pastor in East Jamaica Conference during his morethan 42 years of gospel ministry, passed on Sunday, August 25, 2013. He was a pastpresident of the West Jamaica Conference of SDA and an alumnus of West IndiesCollege (now Northern Caribbean University).

    Pastor Wright will be remembered as a humble servant of God who had good success inthe winning of souls for His kingdom.He leaves behind to mourn his loss widow, Dr. Lunette Reid Wright, son Dr. ErnieWright , daughters Patrice Wright Douglas and Gillian along with grandchildren and

    other relatives.

    The Thanksgiving Service for the life of Pastor E.R.E. Wright will be held at the Savanna-la Mar High School inWestmoreland on Sunday September 8, 2013 beginning 10:00 am.

    We invite the church to pray for and encourage his family members and friends during this time of bereavement.

    (3) Historic Vision One Million Baptism Day - September 28, 2013

    Historic Vision One Million Baptism Day - September 28, 2008

    First Elders in the Seventh-day Adventist Church will be allowed to baptize persons they have worked with overthe past few months. This will be an historic event and a day of rejoicing for the church.

    This is one of the special activities for the 'The Year of the Laity'. Make this a special day of celebration and ahigh day for our elders and new members who will join the church of God on this day.

    Every church is encouraged to put steps in place to have this special event recorded and or photographed.Special instructions will be given to the Communication Leaders to ensure this important event gets the coverageit deserves.

    (4) Launch of BEAMS - September 14, 2014

    The Jamaica Union Conference and East Jamaica Conference Family Ministries Department invite you to thelaunch of BEAMS ( Boys of Excellence Attaining Morals & Standards) JAMU / EJC Chapter on

    Sabbath September 14, 2013 at 4:00 pm at the Half Way Tree SDA Church. This event will be the first of its kindand is designed to provide spiritual and moral leadership to our boys and young men in the church.

    The keynote speaker will be Pastor Devon Osbourne, Secreatary- EJC and the event will be launched by Dr. EricNathan, Family Ministries Director JAMU.

    (5) Health & Family Life Department present Mens Health Seminar- September 22, 2013

    The Health Ministries Department in association with the Family Ministries Department will conduct aMens Health Seminar at V.H. Percy Centre, Sunday, September 22, at 10 a.m. A contribution of $1,000, willtake care of all screening tests to be done.

    Gentlemen, please do not let this opportunity pass. Make the time and effort to get yourself checked out by thehealth professionals who will be there just for you. There is a popular proverb that says ' A stitch in time savesnine'.

    (6) EJC Ambassador Sashing Postponed to - September 22, 2013

    The final EJC Ambassador 2013-2014 finals (teens & juniors) will take place on Saturday, September 7, 2013 at theConstant Spring SDA Church beginning at 3:00 p.m. We invite youth from every church to come and support finalistsfrom their church at this event.

    The final event associated with the 2013 EJC Ambassador search however will be the sashing of the Youth, Teen andJunior Ambassador which will take place this year at the Police Officers' Club beginning at 4:00 pm.

    Tickets: adults $500 & children pay $150 at the door

    NB. This change was made to facilitate persons who needed to attend the funeral service for the latePastor E.R.E. Wright.

    (7) Notices from the Sabbath School / Personal Ministries / Community Services Department

    The EJC Sabbath School/Personal Ministries & Community Services Department thanks our churches whosupported the recently held Family Fun Day & Brunch. All Community Services leaders are urged to turn in theproceeds from ticket sales (if you have not yet done so), along with the names of two (2) needy children/studentsfor back-to-school assistance. State the nature of help needed. (PARTICIPATING CHURCHES ONLY)

    (8) Notices from the Women's Ministr ies Department

    1.GEMS retreat rehearsal will be held on Sabbath September21, 2013, from 2 p.m. 4p.m. Kindly plan forthis. This presentation is for the opening night.

    2.Counting Down! WMDs, do all you can to have at least one GEM representing your church at the 4 dayseminarOctober 24 -27, 2013. Call immediately and book their place. Adults/Mentors come for yourRest & Relaxation. Bring your friends and coworkers.

    3.Levels 2 & 3 Leaders Certification course will be done via distance training. All WMDs are asked to pickup the package or access this on line. The final sessions will be held at Golden Acres /EJC Board Room inNovember.

    4.All hard working adults, male and female Book now for a full package of physical rejuvenation fromOctober 24 -27, 2013, at the Holiday Inn Resort. Credit card payments are accepted.

    Parenting Tip -

    Our mind is the source of all that we do and say; ourthoughts become our words, our words become ouractions, our actions become our habits, our habitsbecome our character and our character determines ourdestiny. To be able to control our words and actions, itmust begin with our thoughts. So parents andguardians please help us train our thoughts.

    (9) Notices from the Children's Ministr ies Department

    1. ASI/IAD Mission 2013 to Costa Rica was a blessing. The contingent of youth and children were had theirencounter with Jesus. A report will follow soon.

    2. All CMDs whose children were not engaged in the Discipleship Training are asked to conduct this training inyour churches. Your Pastors and Elders will assist you in the training. Kindly ask your Pastors to pick up yourpackages.

    3. Levels 2 & 3 Leaders Certification course will be done via Distance Training. All CMDs are asked to pick up

    the package or access this on line. The final sessions will be held at Golden Acres /EJC Board Room inNovember 2013.

    4. CMDs, you are asked to encourage parents to a make use of the special KIDS in the Kitchen

    forum to be held October 24-27, 2013 @ Holiday Inn Resort, Montego Bay. The total contribution

    is $6,000. This includes return fare, seminar and presenters tokens. Book now.

    Andr ews Memor ial SDA Chur ch Host s Parent ing For umThe Andrews Memorial SDA Church Women's Ministries is hosting a Parenting Forum this Sunday, September

    8 at East Jamaica Conference (EJC) Board Room at 74 Constant Spring Road from 2:00p.m. to 5:00p.m.

    The Forum will include presentations from specialists in child psychology, psychiatry and violence prevention.

    Andr ews Memori al SDA Church Wellness SeriesThe Andrews Memorial SDA Church intes you to their Complete Wellness Series which begins on September 8,

    2013 and runs through to October 6, 2013. The series includes presentations from health professionals and is

    designed to help everyone who attend to break the cycle of ill health and embrace wellness.

    (11) Photo and Video Record ing Requested For Vision One Mill ion Bapti sm

    All Communication Leaders and team members are asked to ensure that the upcoming Vision One Million

    Baptism scheduled for September 28, 2013 at your church, is adequately captured for posterity and your church

    records through the use of digital photography and/ or video recording where possible.

    The EJC Communication Department will be requesting that digital photographs of this baptism with captions

    outlining the name of the Elder doing the baptism and the name of the person being baptized, be sent to the EJC

    Communication Department at the earliest time possible after the event. These images will form part of the

    Conference's Photo Highlights of this event.

    Emails should be forwarded to [email protected].

    If the church communication department does not own a digital camera or video recorder, begin from now to ask

    members to assist in finding persons with the requisite resources and expertise to capture the event as requested.

    The baptism of a new believer by a first elder on the scale that we anticipate, will be an historic event in Inter

    America Division and in our Conference and we would love to have good photographs taken in as many of our

    churches as possible.

    Please do your part to make this day a blessed and memorable day for everyone.
