SE-170 Statement of WorkSE-170 Statement of Work
Ensure safety-critical systems function as designed.. OEMs monitor service history; verify assumptions
regarding physical ability to accomplish regularly scheduled maintenance tasks.
Air carriers adhere to OEM-recommended maintenance instructions, or substantiated alternative.
Air carriers report to OEM safety-related difficulties in OEM maintenance instructions.
Document industry practices for reporting and processing / resolving safety-related difficulties with OEM maintenance instructions and report on recommended best practices.
Five specific objectives – each met
Report submitted to JIMDAT Dec 4, 2012

The process recommendations discussed in the report are generally implemented in the industry.
Existing processes need a little more structure, definition, and organization by defining and following industry best practices.
Output 1 SummaryOutput 1 Summary
OEMs and operators develop processes to follow the intent of the guidance material. OEMs incorporate reported maintenance task problems into their continuing airworthiness/ design review processes.
JIMDAT Output 2JIMDAT Output 2
1. Air carrier associations gain consensus on incorporating the recommended practices and the most effective implementation document (s)
2. Associations coordinate with OEMs and FAA to develop the document and ensure it interfaces with OEM and FAA communications and internal processes
3. OEMs develop or update internal processes per the Output 1 recommended best practices

Objective 1-- Operator processes for identifying and documenting problems or difficulties with maintenance tasks that, in the judgment of the operator, pose a safety hazard.
Objective 2-- Operator processes for reporting back to OEM/DAHs on maintenance task problems (including difficulties in performance or verification of task completion) that, in judgment of the operator, have a clear potential impact on safety.
Output 1 ObjectivesOutput 1 Objectives
Objective 3 -- OEM/DAH processes for reviewing and responding to these safety-related operator maintenance issues.
Objective 4 -- OEM/DAH and operator recommendations for issues that could potentially impact safety and should be reported, and what information operators should include in reports.
