Freedom in the Mind, Faith in the words … Pride in our souls … ndependence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and respect in I our school premises on 15 August. e Director to commemorate the sovereignty of our nation, unfurled the tricolor ag and all in unison sang the National Anthem and expressed the joy of our freedom. en he gave a speech addressing the importance and value of our hard earned freedom. He asked the students to follow the constitution with complete integrity and respect our country, making it a better place for Indians to live and experience the freedom, peace and unity in diversity. e speech was followed by distribution of sweets. en came the momentous occasion for the school where newly elected members of school's senate were officially vested with their powers and positions during Investiture Ceremony. e Chairman & Director conferred our students with badges and sashes, wishing them luck to fulll their responsibilities with complete justice. e School Captain Ali Qasim gave a wonderful speech asking for everyone's blessings and extending thanks to all those who voted for him. he pilgrimage of Hajj is a compulsory undertaking, at least once in the lifetime of every physically and �nancially Table Muslim man and woman. Every year, Muslims from all over the world gather in Makkah, for one of the most important events in a Muslim's life. ey dress as one, and act as one, erasing all the 'narrow domestic walls' that

Rabindranath Tagore, in his poem 'Where the mind is without fear', has longed for the removal of. Hajj depicts the enormous, sel�ess and wholehearted sacri�ces and trials Ibrahim (A.S.) and his blessed family underwent during their lives.EPS's Hajj event 2016 was an effort to help Hajis planning to perform the pilgrimage this year, and those with intentions for the future, become familiar with the rituals and the etiquettes of Hajj.e event began with the recitation of a few verses of the holy Qur'an, from Surah Hajj and Surah Rahman, and of a poem by Allama Iqbal. Students from grade 10 demonstrated the process of Hajj-e-Tamattu, which is the most common type of Hajj performed by hajis. e presence of Bhopal's honored Shahar Qazi, Sheikh Mushtaq Sahab, made the whole event all the more special as he held the Q&A sessions with the Hajis at the culmination of the event.ere were multiple food stalls set up by the CAS group and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the various delicacies. is Hajj event was the second in our school's history. May Allah grant us more opportunities such as this, and may he help us to progress in all areas, always. (Ameen)

The Investiture Ceremony of Eastern Public School for the academic session 2016-2017 was held on 15 August 2016, in a special gathering

at the school Assembly Hall. e event was presided over by the school Chairman Dr. Mansoor Durrani and Director of the school, Mr. Umar Jaffar. e members of the council were elected in a fair, transparent and democratic manner with all the students and staff casting their vote. e students were

elected, based on their leadership qualities, personality suitable for the position, past experience and track record.is was a very proud moment for the elected council members, as their parents also graced the event with their presence. e event was signi�cant as it witnessed the 'Oath Ceremony' of the newly elected students' council. e oath provides a clear outline of the responsibilities and duties of each member in the council. e student council comprises of 18 members and is a student's body elected to represent the students and carry out smooth functioning of the school. e members pledged to ful�ll their duties and to perform to the best of their abilities, for the betterment of the school. e Chairman motivated students as he gave an inspirational speech, emphasizing the signi�cance of synergy, leadership and importance of the student council in determining school's success and paving the path for years to come.

Englis� Qu� Competitio�by Qamar AlamHOD English

The English Quiz Competition 2016 was held at EPS on 4 August. It was an Inter House event and each team was represented by six participants. All six members of the team

were allowed to participate in the Audio Visual round but only two members of any team could take part in the remaining three rounds. e Quiz comprised of �ve rounds, that was Grammar, Literature, Audio-visual, Rapid �re and Dictionary round. First round was based on Grammar, vocabulary and sentence structure. It was followed by literature round having questions on literary devices, books and author's name, the characters' names etc. e next round tested their knowledge of English Literature. is round put some of them to test as they were seen racking their brains while identifying the authors in the Visual Interpretation section. In the Audio visual round the audience outdid the participants, as they seemed to be answering most of the questions as compared to the participants and made everybody feel their presence. e rapid �re and the dictionary rounds proved to be decisive and brought out the best in the participating teams, who had undoubtedly prepared well for it with all sincerity. e Red House team was adjudged as the winner. e Blue house Team secured the second position whereas there was a tie for the third position between the Yellow and the Green house. It was indeed a learning experience for everyone and laid down the foundation of a better performance next time.

PYP Worl� Peac� Dram� Competitio� 2016

World peace occupies a signi�cant position in our lives and peace is neither a personal matter nor a national goal. It is a global, comprehensive and everlasting

requirement. Hence our students from Grade 2ⁿ to 5 were given the opportunity to participate in the Drama Competition on World Peace held in our school. Students took to the stage with great enthusiasm to bring this crucial and global issue in front of the school. ey gave meaningful and beautiful messages to the audience .Every time when a grade would come up on the stage, they would try hard to open the doors of love, prosperity, freedom, equality and justice in the minds of other students. e winner of Category-1 was Grade 2 and of Category 2 was Grade-5. Participants also highlighted the message of the Prophets that played an important role in building the structure of peace across the globe.

PYP Inter Hous� Genera� Knowledg� Qu� by Dr. Kehkashan YaqubHRT Grade V

Exuberant, enlightening and engaging would describe the PYP Inter House Quiz Competition held on Monday, 22ⁿ August 2016. e event was aimed at developing knowledge and excellence among the students through healthy competition. e students crammed themselves up with a lot of general knowledge for the quiz.A number of intuited and interesting questions were asked to the students, measuring each aspect of their educational knowledge like Current Affairs, Famous Personalities, Politics, Geography, Sports etc. Four different rounds were set up for the quiz to test their mastery over G.K.Each team had fervent participants who put up a whole hearted effort, but eventually the Hazrat Ali (RA) House emerged as the overall winner and got the �rst position. Hazrat Umar(RA), Hazrat Abu Bakr(RA) and Hazrat Uthman(RA)Houses also gave amazing performances and exhibited a great spirit as they secured the second, third, and fourth positions respectively. It was truly an enriching experience for the students.

Grad� VIII B Assembl�

The class assembly of Grade VIII B was held on 10 August, 2016. eir topic was 'e Importance of literacy' and the

assembly commenced with a short inspiring skit on “e importance of literacy in our lives”. e narrator for the skit was Junaid Ibrahim and he narrated the sequential events in an interesting way so as to get the attention of the audience.e PowerPoint presentation on “Education and Islam” was quite enriching as it threw light on the connection between Education and Islam. It had some nice quotes and surahs from the Holy Quran. Lastly the students shared some amazing facts about literacy across the Globe. ey exhibited the concept well through the use of placards. e thought of the day was: “Allah has blessed us with many literacy skills. We must use these skills in order that we worship Allah in the best manner”.ereaer an enriching video on “Importance of education in Islam” by Abdul Bari Yahya added a little more to the knowledge of the audience. e assembly concluded on an inspiring note by the Director as he appreciated the excellent performance and efforts of the students.

It was very well demonstrated by the students of Grade 3 A in their class assembly on 1 August 2016, when they spread awareness for saving water. Innovation was evident in the skit, when Red riding hood on her way realized the importance of water. Knowledge did not end here as the Islamic perspective towards conservation of water and facts were shared via a quiz.Concern towards the depleting resources of earth, was expressed through a song 'Save the Earth' in which they vowed to be the defenders of the earth. A strong message was given by these young learners and their efforts were appreciated.

SP Assembly on 9 of August 2016 gave PYP students an Eopportunity to demonstrate their public speaking skills on the importance and correct usage of English Language. ey demonstrated the same through a variety of presentations. e assembly was the combination of role play, song, drama, student talk and classroom management strategies. ough the assembly was brief but very informative.
