TONY JACOBSVocalist and bandleader Tony Jacobs together with pianist Jim Barry are joined by beautiful chanteuse Catherine Sykes to present ‘A FINE ROMANCE’ celebrating the music and songs of Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin and many other songwriters. This fun-filled show is full of interesting, sometimes hilarious, sometimes moving, anecdotes about the composers and the artistes who performed their songs including Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, Al Jolson and others, and of course their songs and tunes.

GUERNSEY SYMPHONIC WINDS & STRINGSPRESENT ‘BELLA ITALIA’

An evening of Italian Operatic Masterpieces and Neapolitan Song with Conductor Alan Gough and Special Guest Baritone Soloist Syzmon Wach. In September 2017 Szymon performed with Guernsey Symphonic Winds and Strings in a spectacular evening of Italian music held in Castle Cornet. This evening introduces new repertoire plus well-known favourites in the comfort of the St James Concert Hall. The programme includes music by Verdi, Leoncavallo and Rossini and the popular piece Variations on Santa Lucia featuring saxophone soloist Katie Gough.

GUERNSEY CONCERT BRASS PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES

Guernsey Concert Brass takes you on a journey to celebrate all types of transportation. Starting by walking (with the Lambeth Walk) and working their way through to transported to the moon (Fly Me to the Moon). The band will visit all forms of transport in-between, including well-known classics such as the theme to Black Beauty, Galloping Home, the theme from the Onedin Line and the Beatles’ Ticket to Ride.

‘THE BOOK OF EBENEZER’

Local violinist David Le Page returns to St James with his colleague pianist Viv McClean, introducing his latest album, ‘The Book of Ebenezer’, inspired by G B Edwards’ famous novel. Set in Guernsey through the late 19th century up to the 1960s, the book tells of the life of Ebenezer Le Page, a typical ‘Guern’. David has created 10 exquisite miniatures, several of which use Guernsey folksongs. The music is highly evocative, infused with a tender poignancy which speaks not only of the hero’s reflections, but also of David’s connection to Guernsey.

ST JAMES SINFONIA with guest soloist, violinist David Le Page, conductor Roger Coull, and leader Catherine Leech.The Sinfonia welcomes David Le Page to the platform to perform Johannes Brahms’ violin concerto in D major. David was the first soloist to perform with the St James Sinfonia so it is fitting he perform with the orchestra again during St James’ bicentennial celebrations. Also included in the programme is Beethoven’s famous Overture ‘Egmont’ in tribute to the heroic Count of Egmont, and Mendelssohn’s joyful Symphony No.4 Op.90 (Italian).

The evening is rounded off with some up tempo folk music from The Vraic Gatherers. Seating is at tables of 10 and includes a buffet supper.

TONY JACOBSVocalist and bandleader Tony Jacobs together with pianist Jim Barry are joined by beautiful chanteuse Catherine Sykes to present ‘A FINE ROMANCE’ celebrating the music and songs of Cole Porter, Jerome Kern, George Gershwin, Irving Berlin and many other songwriters. This fun-filled show is full of interesting, sometimes hilarious, sometimes moving, anecdotes about the composers and the artistes who performed their songs including Fred Astaire, Bing Crosby, Ella Fitzgerald, Al Jolson and others, and of course their songs and tunes.

GUERNSEY SYMPHONIC WINDS & STRINGSPRESENT ‘BELLA ITALIA’

An evening of Italian Operatic Masterpieces and Neapolitan Song with Conductor Alan Gough and Special Guest Baritone Soloist Syzmon Wach. In September 2017 Szymon performed with Guernsey Symphonic Winds and Strings in a spectacular evening of Italian music held in Castle Cornet. This evening introduces new repertoire plus well-known favourites in the comfort of the St James Concert Hall. The programme includes music by Verdi, Leoncavallo and Rossini and the popular piece Variations on Santa Lucia featuring saxophone soloist Katie Gough.

GUERNSEY CONCERT BRASS PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES

Guernsey Concert Brass takes you on a journey to celebrate all types of transportation. Starting by walking (with the Lambeth Walk) and working their way through to transported to the moon (Fly Me to the Moon). The band will visit all forms of transport in-between, including well-known classics such as the theme to Black Beauty, Galloping Home, the theme from the Onedin Line and the Beatles’ Ticket to Ride.

‘THE BOOK OF EBENEZER’

Local violinist David Le Page returns to St James with his colleague pianist Viv McClean, introducing his latest album, ‘The Book of Ebenezer’, inspired by G B Edwards’ famous novel. Set in Guernsey through the late 19th century up to the 1960s, the book tells of the life of Ebenezer Le Page, a typical ‘Guern’. David has created 10 exquisite miniatures, several of which use Guernsey folksongs. The music is highly evocative, infused with a tender poignancy which speaks not only of the hero’s reflections, but also of David’s connection to Guernsey.

ST JAMES SINFONIA with guest soloist, violinist David Le Page, conductor Roger Coull, and leader Catherine Leech.The Sinfonia welcomes David Le Page to the platform to perform Johannes Brahms’ violin concerto in D major. David was the first soloist to perform with the St James Sinfonia so it is fitting he perform with the orchestra again during St James’ bicentennial celebrations. Also included in the programme is Beethoven’s famous Overture ‘Egmont’ in tribute to the heroic Count of Egmont, and Mendelssohn’s joyful Symphony No.4 Op.90 (Italian).

2018 FOX OPEN ART COMPETITION ARTWORK SUBMISSION DEADLINE

Last chance to enter this annual art competition with the opportunity of winning one of two prizes in the adult category and to have your work exhibited in both Guernsey and Jersey. There is also a 12 – 18 year olds category for the Jock Russell Award. Each entrant may submit up to two works which can include paintings, drawings, original prints and textiles as well as mixed media. LYDIA PUGH THE LAND WHERE I WAS BORN A night celebrating new and original choral works by local musician and internationally award winning composer, Lydia Jane Pugh. Inspired by our beautiful island her work often reflects the imagery, atmosphere, and history of Guernsey. This concert will ‘bring home’ Lydia’s music, much of which has only been performed in the USA. Highlights will include the world premiere of her piece ‘Spirits of the Lager Sylt’, and the first local performance of her award-winning piece, ‘Adiraï (Misplaced)’ which was awarded the Nathan Davis Prize in Composition.Local choir, ‘The Accidentals’ as well as invited singers from across the island will join Lydia and musical director Marilyn Pugh, with piano accompaniment from Jack Colley

AN EVENING WITH GU10

GU10 are joined by the popular choirs Bel Canto and the Guernsey Welsh Male Voices for an evening hosted by Jim Cathcart to raise funds for a new ambulance for the St John Emergency Ambulance Service. The evening is rounded off with some up tempo folk music from The Vraic Gatherers. Seating is at tables of 10 and includes a buffet supper.

BERNSTEIN REVEALED: A CABARETFresh from the Barbican’s Leonard Bernstein centenary celebrations, this unique evening brings three world-class performers to the St James stage. Performed live are songs from West Side Story, Candide, On the Town and Wonderful Town; as well as gorgeous rarities from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave., Peter Pan and others. Broadcaster Edward Seckerson returns to St James with double Olivier Award nominee Sophie-Louise Dann and Tony nominated arranger, composer and musical director Jason Carr on the piano. Through stories and songs, the trio draw upon their vast knowledge of the scores and stories behind them to create a unique evening that explores the life and music of this extraordinary man.
