Marco Fiorentino

Presentation Outline for Informative Speech

The Task

Section 1: Introduction to tasks

1.  What is a task? A task can be defined as an activity that needs to be accomplished within a

period of  time. We task because it is a time effective manner of  achieving goals.

2.  However, to my perspective, a task is a small portion of  a project that needs to get done

within a period of  time, so the project can be finished.

Section 2: Tasks for Techies

3.  If  you are a techie or if  you are not, you might be interested in tasking through different

platforms. Here’s the example that prevails for Apple: Omnifocus, a professional grade

personal task management app. This only works with Mac products. That apple is rotten…

4.  Microsoft Office, which works for both windows and Mac OS, holds a  jewel within: Outlook:

e‐mail, tasking, calendar and contacts as a union, in one Program.

5.  And here’s what my friend Rob Riggle defines as “POW!”: the multi‐platform application that

allows your tasking to be in sync, 24/7. We will focus on the last two this time.

Section 3: The Outlook Case.

6.  So when in Outlook, we can distinguish two things: first is the to‐do bar. The to‐do bar is

divided in three sections; the first on the top is a calendar. The second one marks the next

appointments in line. The third section is a Task “quick view”. The second thing we will

notice is

 the

 Task

 button.

7.  When we click it, we can see our tasks for the day, and arrange these views the way we

want.

8.  This is how a new task looks like. You can deal with it yourself, or you can send it through

email to a coworker. You can also attach files, links, pictures, etc. A server for tasking is the

best option, however, if  you don’t have the money for a server or you know nothing about

computing, your best choice is to Just Do‐It.

Section 4: Just Do‐It

9.  Rob remembers what I mentioned before, Doit.im works on Windows, Mac, Android and the

web, maintaining

 each

 task

 synced

 24/7.

10. How? Doit places your task on the internet, making it part of  the air. This can be

downloaded to a mobile phone, like the Iphone or an Android.

11. One thing that Outlook doesn’t have is the possibility of  grouping tasks into projects. Doit

does have this option. This allows the user to be working on different projects and be

successful on them all.

http://slidepdf.com/reader/full/com-3110-course-work 23/38

12. You can also send tasks to the contacts that you want. They can receive those tasks on their

mobile phones right away. The collect box stays there all the time, and is  just a quick access

feature that Doit has, so you can task while multi‐tasking.

Black Leather Chaise Unavailable-

Similar Chair in Stock

Dear Macy Bergman:

Unfortunately the black leather chaise chair is no longer in stock.

When you attempted to purchase the chair last night there were two available but after your

attempt to buy the chair, last one was sold an hour before I received your email.

Although we no longer have the Black Leather Chaise in stock, we do have a similar style chair

in brown. In response to the unfortunate circumstance I will be able to give you a coupon worth

5% off of your next purchase from the site. The coupon would be acceptable to use on top of any

other discount.

Sincerely,

Randel Bennett

October 12, 2010

Dear Mr.

 Burston,

My name is Marco Fiorentino, and I am the Journalism and Mass Communications Internship

Department Director of  Florida International University.

I am writing this letter because I believe that the Journalism and Mass Communications

Department of  Florida International University has been producing young talents for many years,

and since those talents are being requested by high standards institutions like yours, we would like

to encourage you to adopt our well educated young professionals through our Advertising Internship

Program.

Your company, Ogilvy, has been an industry giant in the world of  advertising; that means

that your

 high

 success

 can

 help

 the

 development

 of

 our

 already

 experienced

 students

 with

 new

experiences in the positions of  your preference.

The qualifications and credentials of  our well respected School of  Journalism and Mass

Communications have already made a breakthrough when compared to other schools; this way, our

admission to the school is more select compared to other institutions and our programs are harder,

providing you with the fact of  finding in these young students, better interns.

The requirements for a student to become an intern are having a minimum of  3.0 GPA score

on courses taken within our school. Students would also be required to have successfully completed

the following required SJMC courses:

  MMC3104  – Writing Strategies   MMC 3602 ‐

Mass Media

 &

 Society

ADV 3000  – Principles of  Advertising

  ADV 3200  – Creative Concepts

VIC 3002  – Visual Design for Media Finally, Ogilvy will be able to have within its lines, high qualified young professionals which

working part‐time as interns would provide higher advantages to your company with no costs.

As you can see, that the Journalism and Mass Communications Department of  Florida International

University has been producing young talents for many years. I hope that you consider this letter

when you look at any further action regarding internships. Thank you very much.

Sincerely,

Marco Fiorentino

Mr. Carlos Miguel Suris

Faculty Supervisor, Student Services

School of Journalism and Mass Communications

Florida International University

3000 N.E. 151st Street

North Miami, FL 33181

Dear Mr. Suris,

My name is Marco Fiorentino; I was a student on your Mass Media and Society and

Visual Design classes, on spring 2010. I am currently looking forward to apply for GraduateSchool, and would like to take this opportunity to request a letter of recommendation from

you to facilitate my acceptance into the Advertising Graduate program from the University of

my Choice.

I have assisted to your lectures from January to June of 2010. I have proven to be responsible

in my assignments, and lead my groups to good performances. I worked efficiently for your

classes, and demonstrated great interest on both of them, by participating in class, adding my

knowledge to both of your lectures. I have had outstanding performances working alone,

especially on a particular occasion, when I made from a group project an individual

assignment, creating a webpage and a comic book for your Visual Design class, obtaining for

it the maximum award for it.

I have learned in your class, besides the techniques taught by you and your entourage of

associate professors, what is like to work in communications using professional techniques

for the creation of Mass Media. During the semester spent with you as a professor, I managed

to comprehend the different Mass Media related issues in different countries, and by being

aware of them I was able to become more objective as well. This objectivity and eloquence

has been highly demonstrated throughout my participation in your discussions and classes.

I trust you to be one of the best professors I had in my college years, and I know that you

know my qualities in a way that other professionals and colleagues of yours are not able to

reach. These qualities, and my personal achievements on your classes, might be something

transcendental that the graduate schools may consider appealing. Thank you for your time

and consideration.

Sincerely,

Marco Fiorentino
