Call to Worship

Leader: Do you feel it? God's kingdom is beneath our feet. People: We live in the new creation shaped by God out of our

brokenness. Leader: Do you know it? God's reconciling love in Christ has

shattered our ways of viewing people. People: No longer do we label our sisters and brothers, we

welcome them with open arms. Leader: Do you believe it? God has made everything, including

us, new, People: and sends us forth to share this good news with

everyone!

*Hymn: “There’s a Wideness in God’s Mercy” PH #298

*Prayer of Confession

Leader: We know our faults -- the way we have treated others, our alienation from God, our unwillingness to be faithful people. We will not hide our sin or remain silent, but confess them to the One who surrounds us with steadfast love. People: On this very day, Waiting God, we admit all the lengths to which we go so we might avoid you. You offer us that kingdom of joy and wonder, yet we would hide in places where temptation waits. Leader: You invite us to feast on your grace and peace, but we stubbornly refuse, because you also welcome those we call 'outsiders.' People: We are quick to see all the mistakes that those around us make, but hope you will ignore our foolish choices. Leader: Celebrating God, before we come to our senses, we find you running towards us, sweeping us up in your arms, tears of grace mingling with our cries of confession, a mighty river washing away our sinful ways to restore us to new life.

Page 5: Collingswood Presbyterian Church · 11/3/2012  · TRAIN TO BE A LAY CHAPLAIN: Collingswood Manor, a United Method-ist Assisted Living Community, located at 460 Haddon Ave., Collingswood,

People: In Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, we find no limitations on your grace, no reservations about your love, but a feast that overflows with wonder, a place we can finally call home. Amen.

*Words of Assurance Leader: God rolls away everything that stands in our way - our past, our sin, our pain, our hesitation, and reshapes us into new people living in the new creation. What wonderful grace. We are forgiven! People: Broken, we are made whole; lost, we are brought home; Leader: empty, we are filled with songs of gladness. People: We rejoice and give thanks to God who has graced us with mercy. Amen.

*Congregational Response - “Lord, Have Mercy Upon Us” PH #574

*Sharing of the Peace Leader: As Christ has offered forgiveness to us, let us offer that forgiveness to one another. The peace of Christ be with you. People: And also with you.

PROCLAIM GOD’S WORD Children’s Sermon

(Children in Pre-K-5th grade will leave for Sunday School.)

Anthem - “Hear Our Prayer” Chancel Choir

Epistle Lesson: 2 Corinthians 5:16-21 (p.1053)

*Hymn: “God, How Can We Forgive?” STF #2169

Gospel Lesson: Luke 15:1-3, 11b-32 (p.952)

Sermon: “Life Lines: Coming Home” The Rev. Dr. Katherine G. Killebrew

RESPONSE TO THE WORD

*Affirmation of Faith (unison)

We believe it is a matter of faith to stand up for those who cannot stand up for themselves

We believe it is a matter of faith to recognize equally and love all members of God’s human family whatever their race, creed, color, gender, sexual orientation, marital status, physical or mental capacity.

We believe God’s creation is good, beautiful, and sacred and therefore to condemn any portion of God’s creation is to condemn a portion of God. This is sin.

We believe Jesus Christ came to us to free all people from sin and to make disciples- people willing to live Christ’s discipline of love and justice for all.

We believe The Holy Spirit is that power within us that gives us courage and stamina to face the truth and to live it, even to die for it, as Jesus did.

We believe in the resurrection, the victory over death, the truth that is life for all in Jesus name.

Glory be to the God, One in Three: Creator, Savior and Holy Power of Love. Amen

Offering As stewards of all God has entrusted to our care, we bring

our offerings with a deep concern that they accomplish God’s will in our day. We hold one another accountable in our

mutual service, and struggle together to discern more clearly the mission to which God calls us. Let us rededicate ourselves

with our tithes and offerings.

Children in Pre-K-5th grade will be leaving for

Sunday School and can be picked up in Calvin Hall

following service. This week the Sunday School

children will be studying Mark 10:13-16. We will

study how Jesus taught the disciples that in order to

enter the kingdom of God everyone must receive it as a little child and

how Jesus welcomed and blessed the children.

Last week, the children studied Mark 9:33-50. They learned how the Dis-

ciples were arguing about who was the greatest and Jesus taught them

that anyone who wants to be first must be the servant of ALL.

**We are in need of Sunday School teachers for Spring & Summer** Please see Gretchen Kolecki if you would like to help.

**We need helpers for the Easter Egg Hunt** Please see Gretchen Kolecki if you would like to help.

**We are in need of WRAPPED Easter candies for the Easter Egg Hunt**

If you would like to donate some, please leave the candy in/or outside Gretchen Kolecki’s office. Thank you for your kindness.

What Now? Marriage Equality for Presbyterians and Everyone Else

A Covenant Network Regional Conference

Saturday, April 6, 2013, 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. First Presbyterian Church, NYC

Attorney David Boies, along with co-lead counsel, brought a landmark civil rights case to trial in 2010 challenging California’s Proposition 8. Judges at both the federal district and appellate levels have concluded that Proposition 8 vio-lates the U.S. Constitution. The case will be argued before the United States Su-preme Court on March 26th with a ruling expected in June.

Attorney Doug Nave has argued numerous cases in Presbyterian Church courts for LGBT equality. His speech, “Blest be the Ties?,” will focus on marriage equality in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
