Please know that our staff members work together to thoughtfully place students in classes based on the number of teachers assigned to our school by the District office. When determining your child’s placement, a variety of factors are considered; for example: the number of students in each class, a balance of boys and girls, academic and social strengths and needs, learning styles, friendships and special interests. We use our profes- sional judgement, existing data, and discussion as we create classes, keeping in mind the considerations listed above. Staff who are part of the process include the principal, cur- rent classroom teacher(s), next year’s classroom teacher(s) at that particular grade level, and support staff (including counsellor, learning support teacher, and ELL teachers). It is the responsibility of the school staff to arrange classes so that each student has a positive learning environment and teachers have a manageable teaching assignment. Much thought and effort goes into the placement of each child. As principal, I will only consider written requests for class placements that describe the academic, social and/or physical needs of the child. These must be submitted to me by Thursday, June 2 nd . As always, classes will be finalized at the end of the first week in Sep- tember. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me by email: [email protected] or by phone at 604-664-8836. K. Floyd Principal Sperling PAC, staff and the City of Burnaby have been working really hard trying to find solutions to our before and after school traffic congestion along Adair Street, Sperling Avenue and Hycrest Drive. On Adair Street (southside), there is no parking between the signs. This is a drop-off area only - driver MUST remain in vehicle and have student exit on the curb side of Adair. Please DO NOT make any U- turns along Adair in order to ensure the safety of the students. Our Walking Sidewalk has also been moved east of the fire hydrant along Adair Street due to city bylaws. Please pull forward when dropping off students. On the Hycrest Drive area, we are trying to have all traffic travel in a one-way direction - East to West - down the lane. The lane is a drop-off are only - driver MUST remain in the vehicle. We are always looking for Walking Sidewalk volunteers for 15 minutes before the school bell. Please contact the office if you are available to volunteer your time.

THANK YOU TO EVERYONE WHO MADE THE BOOK FAIR A SUCCESS! At the time of this printing, the Book Fair is doing well. Ms. Hunger hopes to sell enough books to buy one book for each child that reads for 200 nights on her Home Reading Program. She would also like to thank the many parent and student volunteers who have helped at the Book Fair.

The staff at Sperling want to extend a heartfelt thank you to the parents for the scrumptious appreciation lunch. We appreciated the spring table décor, the beautiful centerpieces, the thoughtful gifts, and enjoyed sampling

some of your family favourites and specialties. Thanks for brightening our day!
