Family Camping! If you can’t afford it, or even if you want to at the

last second…go camping, in the backyard that is!

Pitch tents, tell stories around a fire pit, sing songs,

make s’mores, and roast hot dogs. Even when in the

backyard, camping can be a great family bonding

experience. In the morning, don’t forget to clean up

together

Slo-Pitch Congratulations to our three teams who competed in the Sunrise Athletic Conference grade 7 and 8 Slo-Pitch Tournament at the Dugald Community Diamonds on May 25th. Thanks again to our volunteer coaches Lauralee Reimer, Sarah Baumgartner, Allan Suggitt and Christian Bissonnette for coaching our teams. Marathon Club Since early May, our grade 5-8 students have been running in preparation for the Manitoba Marathon Super Run to be held on June 19th. Thank you Brigitte Kiazyk, Michelle McConomy and Karla Fisher for volunteering your time at lunch. Sunrise Track and Field Our grade 6 to 8 students have been preparing for the Sunrise Athletic Conference Track and Field meet to be held in Beausejour since early May. The date of the meet has been changed to June 14th. Parents/Guardians are welcome to come cheer on our students.

Lungs Are For Life came May 20th!

Lungs are for Life is the Lung Association’s school

smoking prevention program for students in Grades 4 to

6. We had the opportunity to see it on May 20th.

The program’s aim was to give students information

about tobacco use so they can make a healthy informed

decision about whether to smoke or not.

Melanie Black, Primary Health Care Nurse from the

North Eastman Health Association was the presenter

for the lesson. The students especially loved the real

pig’s lungs, the tape demonstration, the balloon

demonstration, and students reading real facts about

smoking.

We’d like to thank Melanie Black for an awesome and

informative presentation!!!

Bake Sale for Japan Submitted by Brook Wiebe, Gr. 4 Room 11

Through the tragedy that happened in Japan my mom said, “You should do something to raise money.” My dad said, “Do a craft and bake sale!” So, I went to my teacher and asked if we could raise money for Japan. She jumped at the chance. We finally settled on a bake sale which my friend Shayne Watkins suggested. At the bake sale we had baking starting at .25 to $1.00 and we still raised $431.12! I really had fun selling baking and I would do it again if I could. I thank people for coming. When you had a choice of a “yes” or a “no” you chose “yes”. Thank you!

Student Votes Submitted by Noel Roy, Room 11

On April 27, 2011 Room 11 held a Student Votes election. Student Votes were held in schools all across Canada and there were 512,000 students who voted this election.

We set up our room as

a polling station and 194 students from Grades 3 to Grade 8 voted. We were the class in charge of the voting and everyone had one thing on their mind… ”Who is going to win the election?”

Our results were… Vic Toews 72 votes, Al Mackling 36 votes, Janine Gibson 31 votes, David Reimer 15 votes, Terry Hayward 12 votes and Ric Lim 11 votes. There were 17 spoiled ballots. Our class learned a lot about the election during this time and how important it is to vote.
