The Oklahoma Caring Van Program providesfree immunizations to children. Four CaringVans travel throughout Oklahoma servingchildren by holding clinics at child care facilities,public schools, Head Start centers and otherlocations convenient for children and parents.Since 1999, nearly 74,000 vaccines have beenadministered to close to 31,000 childrenthrough the Oklahoma Caring Van Program.
In 1994, the Oklahoma Caring Foundationbegan with a vision that every Oklahoma childdeserves the chance to grow up healthy. Overthe past decade, the Foundation has helpedmore than 35,000 children across our statelead healthier lives through educationprograms, immunizations and insurancecoverage.The Oklahoma Caring Foundation iscommitted to helping children receive the carethey need and learn how to protect andmaintain good health through severalprograms including the Oklahoma Caring Vans,the Caring Program for Children and Good 4Me!
In 2004, the Oklahoma Caring Foundationlaunched the "Good 4 Me!" program as a pilotproject funded by the American HeartAssociation to help Oklahoma children adopthealthy lifestyles.Teachers, caregivers andparents are provided with resources to guidechildren in making good nutrition and fitnessdecisions. At the end of 2005, with anexpansion grant from Eli Lilly and Company,more than 1,300 children had participated inthe "Good 4 Me!" program.
The Caring Program for Children providesfree primary and preventive outpatient healthcare benefits for children who do not qualifyfor government programs but whose familiesdo not earn enough to buy coverage for theirchildren. Benefits include doctor's office visitsfor sick children, regular check-ups,immunizations, outpatient diagnostic servicesand some common childhood surgeries. Sincethe first child was enrolled in 1995, the CaringProgram for Children has been there formore than 2,000 young Oklahomans frombirth to age 18.
