Four Caring Vans travel throughout Oklahoma serving children by holding clinics at child care facilities, public schools, Head Start centers and other locations convenient for children and parents. Since 1999, nearly 74,000 vaccines have been administered to close to 31,000 children through the Oklahoma Caring Van Program. In 1994, the Oklahoma Caring Foundation began with a vision that every Oklahoma child deserves the chance to grow up healthy. Over the past decade, the Foundation has helped more than 35,000 children across our state lead healthier lives through education programs, immunizations and insurance coverage.The Oklahoma Caring Foundation is committed to helping children receive the care they need and learn how to protect and maintain good health through several programs including the Oklahoma Caring Vans, the Caring Program for Children and Good 4 Me! In 2004, the Oklahoma Caring Foundation launched the "Good 4 Me!" program as a pilot project funded by the American Heart Association to help Oklahoma children adopt healthy lifestyles.Teachers, caregivers and parents are provided with resources to guide children in making good nutrition and fitness decisions. At the end of 2005, with an expansion grant from Eli Lilly and Company, more than 1,300 children had participated in the "Good 4 Me!" program. The Caring Program for Children provides free primary and preventive outpatient health care benefits for children who do not qualify for government programs but whose families do not earn enough to buy coverage for their children. Benefits include doctor's office visits for sick children, regular check-ups, immunizations, outpatient diagnostic services and some common childhood surgeries. Since the first child was enrolled in 1995, the Caring Program for Children has been there for more than 2,000 young Oklahomans from birth to age 18.
