Principal’s Report
Another week full of exciting learning activities for both students and
teachers….
High in importance on our list of events was Mrs Lee and Mrs Knight
representing CPS at the Early Action for Success EA4S) conference in
Sydney. Mrs Lee presented a session sharing with other schools from
across the state the successes CPS has experienced implementing
EA4S strategies.
We were notified that CPS has received a $3500 NSW Government
Eco Schools grant to create an indigenous garden for learning. The
project will involve students establishing a native garden to comple-
ment the existing nearby food garden.
Congratulations to all the students participating in the Outback Festival
Art Competition. CPS students received 24 of the 33 awards in the
competition – there are some amazing artists at our school.
Six of our students volunteered at the Miners’s Ghost Markets last
Saturday to work with Cobar Shire Council to distribute posters and
leaflets to the community reminding us all to take care of the Newey
and surrounds. A copy of the leaflets created by the students is
attached. It would be great to spend a little time with your children
reading it together.
Two volunteer groups of very energetic year 5 and 6 students and
Cobar Shire Council personal spent Wednesday planting out native
grasses in an area adjacent to the school. There was a healthy
competitive attitude amongst the second group to try and plant out
more than the first group – and they succeeded! The 1st group managed
to plant out 500 plants and the 2nd group (with less students) planted
700! The reward for all was Subway for lunch.
Last Friday our public speaking and debating teams viewed the final of
the State Multicultural Public Speaking Competition via VC. All stu-
dents learnt a great deal about preparing for impromptu speeches and
presentation strategies.
This week, we had the Healthy Outback Kids (HOK) program operat-
ing again with 3/4Sinclair class preparing chicken wraps. They used
some greens freshly picked from our garden.
Canteen reminder – we always need helpers so if you can spare an hour
any day, please come in and talk to Denise. She will soon have you
mixing muffins or buttering buns.
