THE CITY of Torrevieja, ruled by the fiveparty coalition, pentapartido council, hasasked the Generalitat Valenciana to give themthe rights to the International Auditorium, asthe title is held by the regional administration,to allow them to relocate all culturalprogramming culture to the venue. Since thePentapartido closed the city's two mainperformance areas, the entire former culturalprogram organised primarily by the formerPartido Popular council is up in the air rightnow, since they closed the two municipalcentres: the Municipal theatre and Virgen delCarmen Cultural Centre, for what they called'safety deficiencies'.

The proposal was made during aconversation last weekend, and is now moreurgent than ever as they try to not have tosuspend some more activities that werescheduled in either of the two centres. Thepentapartito already sought use of the Auditorium inAugust from the Generalitat through new conditions foruse of the auditorium, which is the cultural centre withmore audience capacity throughout Valencia. However, the pentapartido's sudden closure of the two culturalcentres, without any Plan B in mind, has reactivated therequest. In August, Torrevieja's Council wanted to sign anew agreement to be able to use the auditorium moreoften that would broaden the number of days in whichthe facilities are transferred to the city.

Meanwhile, Councillor for Activities, Fanny Serranomet a week ago Monday with the Director General of theAgency for Safety and Emergency Response of theGeneralitat, Josep Maria Angel, to address the closuresthey had performed to ensure the safety of people bothin public and private spaces. Fanny Serrano alsoreported that they are finalizing the technical report onthe safety of the Virgen del Carmen Cultural Centre,"once all the necessary measurements and checks oncompliance with the emergency measures andevacuation have been made." If the report supports the

security of the centre, Serrano added: "we will proceedto authorize its use again; immediately addressing theimplementation of the actions required to facilitate thegrant of the compulsory license to open and its urgentproceedings before the Department of President of theGeneralitat,” said the socialist councillor.

However, Torrevieja's Mayor Jose Manuel Dolon maythrow a spanner in the works. Thus, while Councillor andMayor in waiting Fanny Serrano is trying to find asolution, the Mayor is complaining of the facts that theInternational Auditorium cost 43 million euros andaccording to him, requires more work. Jose ManuelDolon, anticipated holding a meeting with the directorof the Thematic Projects Company to request thetransfer of rights for the Auditorium for the remainingfour years of their contract.

But first, the Mayor said, “the Government, whichowns the buildings erected over one hundred thousandsquare meters donated by the city at the time, mustconduct an analysis of the deficiencies in theconstruction.” Mayor Dolon said the City Council willrequest a transfer for four years the contract and

complained that the margin of the economiccost that this may have for the council is verybad. In fact, he would not venture how muchmaintenance on the building was. What he didsay is that seeking the transfer of the facilityeach time the City Council wants to make acultural activity is not a quick process.

In reference to the unopened Conservatory, unworn, the mayor thinks that it will be difficultfor the Government to open this as originallyinterned as an international musicconservatory for which it was conceived. Hebelieves the project could host a business parklinked to new technologies. In any case, itsoperation will not be awarded. "We cannot letothers bear or speculate on why it has cost somuch public money."

It should also be noted that had the PartidoPopular been voted back into power in May,that they were already in advanced talks to buy

out the contract and take over early control of theInternational Auditorium, so what the Pentapartido areproposing is nothing new. The PP were also innegotiations to use the International Conservatory as apossible University Campus as the first stage ofTorrevieja having its own University, specialising in thecreative arts.

Inspired by the Berlin Philharmonic, thisAuditorium/Conservatory has become the town’s mostimportant cultural infrastructure, a true ConferenceCentre. This Auditorium-conservatory is situated in atruly beautiful setting: The Alto de San Jaime, a hilltopwith spectacular views to the east and west of the LaMata y Torrevieja Lagoons, essential features of theNatural Park of the same name. It has a garden areacovering 95,665 square metres and is basically split intotwo areas: The Auditorium, with a symphonic hall for anaudience of 1,450, a chamber hall with capacity for 385people and a perimeter hall that joins both halls and alsothe Conservatory and buildings attached to theAuditorium to be used for higher education.

Torrevieja urges Valencia to yield theauditorium after the closure of two theatres

September 18th at thePalace of Music, the Masbafoundation presentedtheir new health-wristband. The event wasattended by manymembers of the currentgovernment, headed byTorrevieja's Mayor JoséManuel Dolon and othermembers of thecorporation and Mr. Hipólito Caro, director ofthe Department of Health No. 22.

Possibly due to poor advertising andpublicity from the Local Government, onlyaround 30 members of the general publicattended the informative event with some ofthose being specificity invited to attend. Thefoundation thanked the presence of allattendees, especially members of thegovernment team, recognizing the work theyhave done since its recent takeover andthanking them for their involvement andcloseness with the social fabric, particularlyrelated to the elderly. In this sense MASBAPresident Jose Santiago Sempere noted that"Actions speak louder than words" in clearreference to a before and an after situation intackling the tasks of local government.

The presentation ceremony showed off thework of the creators Oscar and Ruben, twoyoung entrepreneurs who recently came upwith the bracelet concept. The idea is not anew one, since Medical ID bracelets withallergies and illnesses have been around fordecades but this new bracelet takes theconcert in to the present century. This newidea offers passive safety as the unit offers vital

data about theperson should amedical teamrequire information, such as in anemergency and it'savailable anywhere,in an easy, fast, safeand accuratefashion.

This new idea,incorporates the

latest technology that's designed foremergency situations and goes beyondproving just useful data as they contain all userinformation, contact persons, location via GPSor triangulation, etc., always passively, allowing the user to wear and forget withouthaving to do anything, meanwhile whenmoving outside their residence, they arecarrying this information with them at alltimes.

It has also been very useful in its use bypeople suffering from diseases likeParkinson's, Alzheimer's or senile dementia. Itrequires no maintenance, is waterproof andanti-allergic, and initially only requires theentering of the user's personal data and forthis to be updated each time their personalsituation changes. All this is done in a simpleand intuitive way, but to facilitate further, thefoundation has offered to carry out this workto users who request it. This new generationdevice that has a retail price of 39€, but will beoffered free to new affiliates of the foundationand at a remarkably affordable price for therest of seniors who request it through thefoundation. IT'S EXPECTED that Spain's nextGeneral Election will be held onDecember 20th, 2015. Althoughnobody is officially on the campaigntrail as such, last Monday EduardoDolon, was given charge of thePartido Popular campaign for theProvince of Alicante. The PP ofAlicante will contest the electionwith Cesar Sanchez as president ofthe council and Eduardo Dolon asnumber two in the party institution.

The new president of CPAP, IsabelBonig, has also entrusted thedirection of the general campaignto their general coordinator, oriolana Eva Ortiz. José Ciscar didthe same in the province of Alicantenaming his newly appointednumber two, the provincialsecretary general Eduardo Dolon, ascampaign manager for hisconstituency. But unlike Madrid,Císcar is counting on people whohave already had importantresponsibilities to work on thecampaign and become part of histeam even before becomingprovincial party president.

In fact, Eduardo Dolon was putforward as a possible president ofthe Delegation of Alicante howeverthe Citizens (C's) vetoed Císcar. Thiscame about because of thediscrepancies with C's in Torrevieja, and they could not reach an

agreement with the Cs President,Albert Rivera. Eduardo Dolon is incharge of organising the provincialparty convention together withfellow new provincial secretary ofthe PP, Rafael Candela. This new PPoffers a much younger and renewedimage. Císcar said that "the PP ofAlicante is always committed to therenewal of its ideas and to provideopportunities for new people totake over tasks and responsibilitiesin the party" and that "the personwho we have chosen to lead theProvincial Committee of thecampaign is the man who recentlytook on the responsibility to besecretary general; Eduardo Dolon.”Dolon thanked Císcar for hisconfidence in him and said that "wewill be focusing on developingteamwork. WHEN IT comes to offering a free Wi-Fisolution to visitors and residents,Almoradi is leading the way. Their newsystem may be used by up to 700 peoplesimultaneously all receiving two to threemegabytes of data capacity to surf asthey wish. This is a huge step above thelikes of Torrevieja where their 'free'offering is limited to not only slowbandwidth and coverage but just a fewwebsites carrying information aboutTorrevieja, which is very restricted.

Almoradi's free Wi Fi service isavailable to all residents in the Plaza de laConstitución. The Mayor Jaime Perez andCouncilman for New Technologies,Abelardo Muñoz (PSOE) reported thatthe project has been possible thanks tothe TVHoradada Group, the companyresponsible for the implementation ofthe network, who have installed tworouters in the square, which will supplyInternet to a capacity of up to 700 peoplesimultaneously. TVHoradadaspokeswoman Ana Martin gave herassurance that each user will have 2 to 3Mbps downstream and 500K upstream.

The Mayor highlighted the rapidgrowth of Almoradi and the need toprovide new services to citizens, starting

in the central square of the town andannounced that soon this service will beextended to other places of the town, namely the Town Square and PlazaJoaquín Ballester in the hamlet of ElSaladar. He said he felt very satisfied withthe service, with Almoradi being one ofthe towns leading the way and being apioneer in new technologies.

Almoradi's Mayor Jaime Perez wantsthis to be "a benchmark, making itavailable in the industrial estate in anindustrial Technology Zone, whichtranslates into a much more attractiveoffering for companies with bettercommunications and a more efficientservice, raising the possibility that morecompanies will come to Almoradi." Themayor did not indicate the type ofagreement nor the award to thecompany that is providing the service tothe City nor if there is a cost to citycoffers. The Council also reported on amatter of expanding the businessenvironment and mentioned the officialmerger between TVA (televisionAlmoradí) and TVHoradada companies,so subscribers to TVA will have betterservice in the future thanks to a new fibreoptic service.

THE FABULOUS Ciudad de la Luz film studiocomplex on the outskirts of Alicante is underdebate this week. Having been closed and putup for auction because of uncompetitivepractices due to the studio being able toundercut other establishments because it wasowned by the Valencian Community, the EUhave stepped in on a number of occasions andscuppered plans to sell the studio for less thanthey, the EU, think it is worth.

Last week, Valencia presented a proposalbefore the European Commission to preventthe second auction of the cinema complexCiudad de la Luz (the first was empty). TheCounsel would give Brussels a "payment inkind" control of the infrastructure, with theAlicante cinema complex assets being integrated intothe Generalitat. This, said the Council, would mean thatthey would recover the 265 million granted by theCommunity that the EU has considered illegal in adecision taken in May 2012, following a complaint fromother private cinema complexes of EU membercountries.

Thus the Generalitat would be able to recover at least164 million that was invested in public works for theconstruction of movie studios and offices although now, after years of inactivity, they only have a market value of80 to 100 million euros, as assessed in the specifications

of the auction. This amounts to a further loss of about110 million, corresponding to the subsidies provided forfilm production and sponsorship. If a second auction isheld, after the first being declared void, the price of thesale could drop even further, of up to 20% of the value ofthe complex so that the losses would be even higher.

Along with this payment in kind, the conditionimposed by Europe would be that any film studieswould serve not to help such "commercial activities" asfilmmaking, as had been planned from the beginning bycreating a film industry and ancillary services aroundstudies as an economic engine of the province. The

Counsel now proposes to use the facilities fornon-commercial purposes, contrary to what waspromised by the president of the Generalitat,Ximo Puig, throughout the election campaign.

The document contains a legal argument thatrevolves around the 'payment in kind', whichwould mean that the Ciudad de la Luz wouldcome under the control of the Generalitat. Thenext step would decide what use would be givento the buildings. In this regard, the commitmentis towards a non-film or non-commercial usethus it would not be used for any commercialpurpose, meaning it would be incapable ofcompeting with any sector, so the fate of thecomplex would have to be one of a publicservice.

Brussels must now decide whether or not to allow theCiudad de la Luz to be run as a public company with100% ownership by the Generalitat Valencian, as hasbeen done since 2004. This was organised by the firstautonomous government of Francisco Camps (PP), thefilmmaker Luis Garcia Berlanga and his team built thestudios through Aguamarga Producciones, in exchangefor granting the initial project management contracts.Three years later, in 2007, the PP government received acomplaint from two European studios through the EUauthorities because "a private investor would neverhave risked 265 million in such a project."

ALTHOUGH THE Governing Pentapartido have latelybeen talking a good game when it comes to alwaysfollowing the 'letter of the law' when it comes to politics, unfortunately last week, they were caught out at leasttwice for not abiding to their own rules of conduct. Themajor mistake was made by the Councillor for Partiesand Fiestas Africa Celdrán who commissioned acompany in Leon to provide printing and advertisingservices for the May Fair, without following the correctrules and guidelines set forth by local government.

Celdrán apparently skipped all the administrativeprocedure laid down for awarding such a service, asnoted by the Partido Popular last week. Once the matterwas revealed, the pentapartito, had no choice but toretreat and regroup to ensure that neither the“agreement” within the signed documents given toEditorial MIC, nor the agreement signed on August 13thto the company are valid.

Celdrán says in the letter that Editorial MIC, who arebased in León, was going to take care of the productionand management of advertising the magazine festivitiesfor the May Fair. Her signature is also on a "convention"of two pages along with the official municipal stamp

and municipal shield in whichthe conditions are included. These "covenants" include sixsections in which the publisherwill do the job of finding theadvertisers and printing theMay Fair Magazine. However,no tendering process orcontract or award thatendorses the actions of thecompany ever has taken place.

The spokesman of thegovernment team mayorFanny Serrano wanted toexcuse their fellow councillorAfrican Celdrán by alluding toher inexperience and said shehad done this in good faithwhen making the order, unaware that the companywas going to use it to assume acontract or an award. However, nobody from the Pentapartido

has explained whythe councillor did not seek to formalize whathad been processed before signing her nameon documents that make it the town hall'sresponsibly. This is even more prevalent at atime when the City Hall has just left a mandatemarked by public complaints andirregularities in court by regarding themanagement of PP in the area ofprocurement during the former mandate.

Serrano wanted to try and 'dull' the issue byensuring that these are not valid as a contract. She went on to say that a tender will beopened to award this service to be resolvedbefore the holidays and said did not want tolook into how this service was providedpreviously.

The Partido Popular Party spoke last weekof the Pentapartido "handpicking" theirservice suppliers and in this matterdemanded a more detailed explanation fromthe Pentapartido at the next full councilmeeting. PP Councilwoman Carmen Gomezsaid that the Councillor for Fiestas did notcontact the Association of Sons of theImmaculate, the main organiser of thereligious acts of these fiestas, and thecompany that would usually do that job. Moreover the company chosen byPentapartido councillor African Celdrán hasnot only presented local companies with a list

of advertising rates and editing features but alsoannounced that they would take care of the Journal ofthe May Fair.

The other noticeable mistake last week was in theadvertising, or lack of it, for the Hippy Party. Not heard ofit? No surprise there, because unless you are a regularvisitor to the OCIO, this was not included in the culturalprogram of the Town Hall and notice was only sent to thepress 36 hours before the event. No big deal, although itdid look like a fun event, even if the Mayor and othercouncillors did not dress up and join in the fun.

However, the official poster for the event sent out bythe Town Hall also smacks of the department of Fiestasshowing even more of their inexperience, lack ofknowledge and willingness to break the law. While it'snot know who designed the poorly pasted together'Fiesta Hippy' poster, there for all to see on the mainimage of the Hippy Bus is the watermarked image fromthe professional stock image agency: 'Shutterstock'.Thus, someone has simply stolen the image from theinternet and added it to their poster without paying thefew euros in royalties that goes to the agency and thedesigner. And while the pentapartido may wish to saythat they do not know who designed the poster, it wasofficially sent out by their Press Office, thus, one wouldassume it had gone through the correct channels, andthat someone would have spotted that the law wasbeing broken by using a royalty free image to promote aTown Hall event. Possibly, this was just another show ofinexperience.

Thanks also to those whohave supported us in spreading word of mouth andsharing, and of course also thanks to those who directlyor indirectly said to me that this movie would never getto be released for not following the traditional model. Thanks for the encouragement. In one word; 'Thanks'.”

Although the film has yet to be subtitled into English, one of their next projects, 'Operasiones espesiales', is an

action, adventure, comedy filmDirected by Paco Soto and follows theadventures of two local police officerswho rescue the 'Lady of Elche'. He began filming in the summer,2013 with it all being wrapped upduring the summer of 2014. Filming

has taken the castand crewthrough townslike Elche,Alicante, Madrid,Torrevieja, SantaPola,Benitachell, Sax,Villena and Jacarilla and has hadsome scenes with more than ahundred people, such as one thattook place in the Congress Centre inElche, where a packed pressconference was simulated.

The film has already hada preview in Torrevieja'sVirgen del Carmen lastSeptember as a thank youto the people of the city andthe backing of the previousTown Council for theirsupport. It has also beenscreened at many of the topfilm festivals throughoutSpain and overall been wellreceived. Although it has alsobeen released on DVD, beingshown on the 'big screen' wasalways Soto's objective andhe's delighted that Spanishaudiences will now have the

opportunity to see for themselves what can be done ona limited film production project, thanks to help andsupport of local people and business.

Operasiones Espesiales, was also nominated for 14Goyas, the Spanish equivalent of the Oscar and althoughit didn't win any, this was a terrific achievement. Theaction-comedy, features talented Spanish actors likeGermán Hurtado, Enrique Villén, Carlos Santos, CristinaAlcázar, Fran Palacios, Jordi Lexi, Joan Gadea, Barragánand Francesca Vegas, the official double for AngelinaJolie. The protagonist of this story is the 'Dama de Elche',an Iberian sculpture and a special Policia Local searchteam who are sent out to find it after it disappears.

A NEW report states thatAlzheimer's disease affects 80%of people over 65 years, although dementia seen in asmall percentage. According toDr. Mirko Alavena, Neurologyspecialist hospitals QuirónMurcia and Torrevieja,"treatment in the early stages ofAlzheimer's helps prevent itsprogression, while increased lifeexpectancy and the ageingpopulation are boosting thenumber of those affected."

Forgetfulness is the first signof the disease. Unfortunately it iscommon that we all have lapsesand slips occasionally. Thiscreates a lot of anxiety, especiallythe families and friends of thoseaffected. According toneurologist at Hospital QuirónMurcia, Teresa Frutos, "there is noevidence to make the diagnosisof Alzheimer's disease. The

specialists are guided by a seriesof questions and accompanyingthe patient, medical history, plusperformance tests to determinewhether cognitive dementiasuffers and what kind."

“Physical examination andsome tests and brain imagingtests, such as a scanner or MRI,can detect certain alterationstypical of subjects who sufferfrom this ailment. The data setobtained after the patient studyallows diagnosis and determinethe severity of the disease ineach case. The person withAlzheimer's disease suffers aprogressive deterioration ofbrain function. The memory failsto fill the gaps with fabricationsor the sufferer will give detoursto avoid giving answers. Anotherstrategy is the unconsciouswildcard answer. If you havemany mental resources it may

take even years before thosearound the sufferer becomesaware of his situation. This carriesthe risk that the patient may takewrong decisions with theirassets, are lost or even sufferaccidents," explains Dr. Alavena.

Another symptom is mooddisorder and personality change, whether prone to depression oreuphoria. Improvement incerebral performance is veryimportant as nopharmacological treatmentcurrently exists nor a cure for thedisease, but one can helpimprove the performance ofparts of the brain that are not yetaffected. Usually this is aprogress that lasts a few months, increasing the quality of life ofthe affected. Mental and physicalexercises do not prevent theiradvance, but favour the creationof routines and adaptation of thepatient and the caregivers.

For the first timeever, one of the starsof Madrid’s annualThree Kings ofOrient parade willbe played by a blackman rather than awhite man wearingmakeup.

Every January 5,Spanish cities holdstreet paradescelebrating thebiblical tale of theThree Wise Menwho brought gold, frankincense andmyrrh to the baby Jesus. That night, children go tobed hoping that the Magi will bring them theirChristmas presents.

One of these characters, King Balthazar, hastraditionally been portrayed as dark-skinned. Butdespite longstanding calls for the figure to beplayed by a person of African descent, the requesthad so far fallen on deaf ears.

Now, municipal sources say the New Leftistgovernment of Manuela Carmena has accepted apetition filed by the Socialist Party.

“It is an old demand by the Afro-Socialist group, and now it looks like it’s going to happen,” said a

source.Socialist councilor Mar Espinar said the decision

is more symbolic than it may first appear.“It is a new step toward the normalization and

integration of all peoples, races and cultures thatmake up the Madrid melting pot,” she said in arelease.

Traditionally, city councilors have played therole of the Three Kings.

“Fortunately, this anachronism will be leftbehind by next Christmas,” said Espinar.

Other Spanish municipalities have been hiringblack people to play King Balthazar for some time, including the nearby town of Alcorcón.

Podemos is going afterprivate jets on one of Spain’smost popular party islands.

The anti-austerity party thatcontrols Ibiza’s government incoalition with the Socialists isopposing the expansion ofprivate-jet lots at the island’sairport because it is “elitist” andonly benefits the mega-wealthy.Podemos argued in a statementthis week that private flights fuelsocial injustice and damage theenvironment. The party wants touse the money instead to spruceup public areas instead.

Ibiza has become a vacationhot spot for wealthy visitors, international DJs and celebritiesfrom Leonardo Dicaprio to KimKardashian. The island of about112,000 inhabitants welcomed arecord number of visitors inAugust, with 1.3 million peoplearriving, many drawn by thecombination of secluded

beaches and trendy clubs.Spain’s state-owned airport

operator Aena SA wants toexploit the top end of themarket by increasing the roomfor private planes on the island.Ibiza airport can currentlyaccommodate 25 private jetsand the planned expansionwould allow it to handle as manyas 12 more. At peak times, thecapacity restrictions leave jetscircling the airport waiting for alanding slot, according to anAena spokeswoman.

According to Podemos, theplan “aims to hijack space” forthe pleasure of rich foreignerswho treat Ibiza as a party groundwithout any consideration forthe people of the island.

Spain’s tourism industry is ontrack for a record year with thegovernment forecasting 68million visitors for the whole of2015.

Spanish Politicians OpposeIbiza Airport Expansion

Castellón airport, known asSpain's "ghost airport",received its first commercialpassenger flight on Tuesdaymorning, nearly five years afterit opened.

A Ryanair flight from LondonStansted landed minutesbefore its scheduled arrivaltime at 10.40am.

The airport has become anemblem of Spain’s recklessboom-era infrastructurespending, which left thecountry mired in debt. Buildingand maintaining the facility hasalready cost taxpayers €170million (£125 million). Aninvestigation by the EuropeanCommission is underway todecide whether subsidies paid to the companySNC-Lavalin running the airport constitute illegalstate aid.

The fully booked flight, carrying 189passengers, was the first of the Irish carrier's threeweekly connections between the British capitaland Castellón airport, close to Valencia.

Ryanair, which is the only company currentlyoperating scheduled flights to the "ghost airport",will soon add a service from Bristol.

“It’s a historic day”, British passenger RaphaelDauchy said.. Mr Dauchy, a 30-year-old consultantfrom London who regularly visits theMediterranean town of Peñiscola, said theopening of the airport would be a “game-changer”for the region. “It will make a difference in givingCastellón province more international exposure, which it really needs as it is quite dependant on

tourism. I thought it would never happen.” The airport was inaugurated in March 2011 by

two politicians from Spain’s ruling Popular Party, whose careers have since been curtailed bycorruption cases.

Carlos Fabra, former Castellón provincial chief,is serving a four-year jail sentence for tax fraud, while ex-Valencia premier Francisco Campsresigned in 2011 to defend himself againstaccusations of accepting bribes.

A controversial €300,000 (£220,000) sculpturebelieved to depict Mr Fabra still stands at theentrance to the airport.

Aerocas, the company set up by the Valenciagovernment to run the facility, spent €35 million(£26 million) on advertising to promote theunused building. The money was mostly spent onshirt sponsorship deals with local football clubsVillarreal and Castellón.

This is the story of someonewho was lucky yet unfortunateat the same time. It is also thestory of someone else whofeels absolutely terrible aboutthe prize money he is nowlikely to come into.

And finally it is the story of220 individuals who are hopingto become multimillionaires overnight – eitherbecause they feel they are legitimately entitled tothe money, or because they feel it’s at least wortha try.

In the last week of June 2012, the lucky-yet-unfortunate person bought a ticket for thePrimitiva lottery at an outlet inside a shoppingcentre in A Coruña, selecting the numbers 10, 17,24, 37, 40 and 43.

But on the day the winning numbers wereannounced, this person did not pay attention. Andwhen they showed up at a different outlet to makeanother lottery punt, they lost the receipt for thewinning ticket, which was worth €4.7 million.

But the receipt did not disappear. It was foundby the owner of the second lottery outlet, alsolocated in A Coruña, on San Agustín square. Thisman, who stands to keep the fortune if the rightfulowner is not found, feels awful about it.

Manuel Reija said it never once occurred to himto keep quiet and just cash the prize. After he ranit through the machine and realized that all sixnumbers were correct, he rushed to inform theauthorities.

But 14 months have now elapsed after anannouncement was published in the officialprovincial gazette. The message was purposely

discreet, but there was aninevitable avalanche ofopportunity seekers. To date, 220people have claimed the prize, the last 30 this week alone.September 25 is the deadline tofile a claim to the money.

If nobody is able to proveownership, the State Lottery and

Betting Society (SELAE) will award the €4,722,337to the lottery dealer who found it. But Reija is soupset about not finding the true owner that he willno longer talk to the press. Politely, he says in abreaking voice over the telephone that “this is veryawkward for me, the issue has completelyoverwhelmed me; to me, customers are the mostimportant thing.”

Meanwhile, the winning ticket sits inside a safeawaiting its new owner. Applications are beingsent to A Coruña City Hall along with a descriptionof the way the ticket presumably looked when itwas lost – any scratches, pencil notes, whether itwas folded or not, anything that might prove thatapplicants physically saw the piece of paper.

Many of the claims have already been rejected, but other people still have their hopes up. AfterSeptember 25, another three months will go bybefore A Coruña issues an administrativeresolution. Even then, there are also legal suitsfiled by people who are quite certain they losttheir ticket, and whose cases will have to concludebefore any decision becomes final. Theseindividuals are asking for more serious evidencethan just a physical description of the ticket, suchas a review of camera footage, fingerprint checksor even DNA testing.

220 people claim ownership of lostlottery ticket worth €4.7 million

Around the port in Barcelona, it’s not unusual to see NationalPolice vehicles on patrol. But it’s not quite so normal to see one ofthese cars lying face first in the sea, as happened this weekend. Ascan be seen from the above photo, one of the police cars that areusually used for border patrols ended up face first in the water onSaturday.

The two occupants of the car were carrying out routine taskswhen the incident occurred. The car was a relatively new model and, unusually for Spain, had an automatic transmission, with which theofficers were not familiar. When the car approached the breakwaterto get a better view of the seafront, “the driver confused the brakewith the gas pedal,” a police spokesperson explained, sending thecar plunging over the edge.

The vehicle was left half-submerged until a crane eventuallymanaged to pull it out of the waters. The police officers were unhurtthanks to the fact that they went off the edge where the breakwaterwas. “In another place they could have fallen into the sea, and we’dbe talking about much worse consequences,” added the samespokesperson.

Who are you and what do you do?My Stage name is Red Strokes. I am a guitar vocalist

heavily influenced by country rock music but willperform anything from Matt Monro to Deep Purple

How did you start in the business?I was given my first guitar at the age of 14 and started

performing at sixteen and have performed on and offsince then.

What would you be doing if you were not anentertainer?

If I was not an entertainer I would probably beunemployed or filling shelves in a supermarket althoughI always fancied being a postman.

As an entertainer who has been your biggestinfluence?

My biggest influence has always been "The Eagles"

from the early Seventies right up to date.Do you ever get nervous or have you suffered

stage fright?I do not get nervous, but do go very quiet and not talk

to people before I go on stage. What was your best moment? My best moment was probably appearing at Brean

Sands Country Music Festival. At "The Seagull” onThursday night 800 people in the audience, then onFriday afternoon 1300 people turned up.

What has been your worst moment?I cannot remember a worst moment, however I

intensely dislike turning up to a gig to find the venue hasclosed down and I am not aware.

What’s the best piece of advice you have receivedor would give someone starting out in the business?

The best piece of advice I was given and would passon to anyone is "Always imagine there is an internationalagent or promoter in the audience and raise yourperformance to exceed their expectations"

Have you got any little anecdotes or interestingstories?

A little anecdotal story....When I was about 19, I was ina pub in Henley On Thames entertaining the locals justfor fun. Just me and a guitar singing "My Sweet Lord".Unknown to me, George Harrison was sitting around thecorner. He actually came over and played and sang thesong properly, and bought me a beer.

Red Strokes returns to Spain in September after asuccessful UK tour. This international recording artist iscredited with having ten Top 40 songs listed on the LineDance Charts in 2013. Regularly appearing at all majorCountry Music and Line Dance festivals on the Costasand has also performed at The Benidorm Opry. All RedStrokes shows are tailored to suit the needs of the venueand the audience. In addition to Garth Brooks hits, RedStrokes has a vast repertoire of songs by many of thegreat names in Country Music including Toby Keith,Dwight Yokham, Alan Jackson and others. In addition, the extensive repertoire includes hits from other artistsincluding Dire Straits, Status Quo, T Rex, The Eagles, TheMavericks plus many more. Revisiting childish activities canreap significant health benefits. It'stime to release your inner six-year-old.

1. Climb a treeOr if that seems a little too

ambitious, try walking across a widebeam or crawling across the floor. The reason? Childish activities suchas these can boost your 'workingmemory' – the kind you use toremember shopping lists or phonenumbers – by 50 per cent, accordingto a study at the University of NorthFlorida. 'The research suggests thatby doing activities that make usthink, we can exercise our brains aswell as our bodies,' says leadresearcher Dr Ross Alloway. 'Bytaking a break to do activities thatare unpredictable and require us toconsciously adapt our movements,we can boost our working memoryto perform better.'

2. Go berry-pickingBlackberries are high in fibre and

vitamin C, plus their antioxidant levels are among thehighest of any fruit. Blueberries are also rich inantioxidants, plus they're a particularly good source ofvitamin K – which prevents blood clots and encouragesgood bone health. One major 2012 study found thatwomen who eat three or more portions of berries eachday have a 32 per cent lower risk of heart attack. So graban empty ice cream box and head out to the hedgerows.

3. Head to the parkYou don't have to play on the swings and slides –

unless you particularly want to, of course – but spendingjust five minutes in a green space is enough to lift yourmood, according to a study published in EnvironmentalScience & Technology. But don't just sit on a bench: thetrick is to keep moving. And if the park has a lake orpond, all the better: green areas with water seem to offerthe most health benefits, say the researchers.

4. Fly a kiteStill in the park? Excellent! Why not try a spot of kite-

flying while you're there? As well as the obvious physicaland mental health benefits from exercising in the open

air, you'll be giving your eyes a workout. Focusing ondistant objects makes a welcome change from staring ata screen for hours on end. It lessens the strain – andhelps prevent age-related myopia – by relaxing the eyemuscles. All together now: 'Let's go fly a kite'...

5. Get your crayons outColouring books for adults have been a big hit in

bookshops over recent months – with publishers keento promote their stress-busting, mindfulness-awakening benefits. No major scientific studies have yetemerged to back up these claims – but there's plenty ofanecdotal evidence from cheery colourists. Needconvincing? A recent study from San Francisco StateUniversity found that adults who partake in creativeactivities in their free time deal better with stress andperform more effectively in the workplace.

6. Fidget!Remember when you couldn't sit still as a kid? It may

not have been such a bad thing. People who spendmore time standing up than sitting down cansignificantly reduce risk of diabetes and heart disease,

according to recent research from theUniversity of Queensland. Those whospent an extra two hours a day ontheir feet had increased levels of'good' HDL cholesterol and loweramounts of 'bad' LDL cholesterol.

7. Have a sing-song!Singing with other people can

boost your psychological wellbeing –even if you don't have the voice of anangel. That's according to research atOxford Brookes University, whichfound that choir-membersexperienced greater benefits thanpeople who'd joined a sports club. And that's not all: a previous studyfrom the University of Gothenburgfound that choral singing can helpregulate your heartbeat.

8. Play video gamesOK, we know video games

probably weren't around duringyour childhood. but it's never toolate to start playing. Fast-pacedgames can increase our ability toquickly learn new motor skills, such

as typing. 9. Or play a board gameHad enough of Call of Duty? Fair enough. It may be

worth digging out the Monopoly instead. Keeping thebrain active by playing board games can help reducerisk of dementia.

10. Have a laugh with your friendsMobile phones and social media have made it

much easier to keep in touch with loved ones on aregular basis – but they're still no substitute for face-to-face contact. And sharing a giggle with yourfriends, just as you did when you were a child, canhave huge mood-lifting, stress-busting and evenmemory-boosting benefits. One study at Loma LindaUniversity in the US found that older adults who'dspent 20 minutes laughing with other people hadsignificantly better memory recall and lower levels ofstress hormones than those who'd been sitting alone.

So what are you waiting for? Go and call for yourfriends then head to the park to fly a kite. (But makesure you're back in time for tea!)

Ten reasons to behave like a kid again

Whilst the Spanish property market iswell on its way to recovery, there are stillobvious bargains to be had and thestrength in the value of the Poundagainst the Euro is making life a littleeasier for those investing in the Spanishproperty market.

Sterling had risen from the near paritywith the euro back in late 2008 throughto a €1.29 spike in 2012 and, whilst thePound dipped again through to the €1.13low in early 2013/14, we can now seeprices have really risen to around €1.36.This highlights the enormous advantageto be gleaned from well-timed currencycontracts and a little bit of planning.

Those needing to buy Euros whotimed their transactions well over the lastyear will have made nearly 8% gainalready and that makes the investmentinto an already discounted Spanishproperty even more sweet. Sadly, somewill not have been aware of thetechniques available to them to capturethose attractive exchange rates but all is

not lost if you are still on the lookout forthat perfect investment in the sun orholiday home.

With the GBP-EUR exchange ratehitting €1.36, it is possible to buy youreuros on a contract based on that rate butdelay settlement for up to 2 years.Imagine those who did that at €1.29 inmid-2012 and then took possession oftheir properties in mid-2013 when themarket rate was 15 cents lower. That’s an11.5% advantage gained through

nothing more than forward planning andtaking advantage of an opportunitythrough the use of the right tool for thejob.

But forward contracts aren’t the onlyuseful tool in this situation. If you like thecurrent exchange rate but have someconfidence that it will improve, you canwait to take advantage without leavingyourself completely exposed to a sharpdrop in the rate. A Stop Loss order doesexactly what is says on the tin; it protects

you against a negative exchange ratemovement by acting as a safety netbelow the current exchange rate but thebeauty of such an order is that, if themarket continues to rise, your order willnot be triggered and you can either buywhen the level is too attractive to miss ormove the Stop Loss order up behind themarket to secure an ever higherguaranteed level.

The key to making these sorts of plansis access to market knowledge and thatis something you will definitely benefitfrom. Sadly the kind of technical andfundamental analysis needed to useforward contracts and automatedmarket orders is generally not availablethrough high street banks. It issomething you can obtain from goodcurrency specialists though. It is worthseeking out a broker to help you makethe most of these substantialopportunities. It might just make thedifference between a gain or loss in youroverseas investment.

Making the Euro volatility work for you

The last step in your makeupregime is lipstick application. Some women say if they couldhave only one beauty item itwould be lipstick. Lip colourbrings the whole look togetherto create harmony. To keep yourlips looking perfect, have lipcolour with you at all times andreapply when needed.

When you select a lip colourtake in consideration yourclothing and blush colours. Thecolour of your clothing andblush should complement yourlipstick but doesn’t have to be

perfectly matched. However, the colours should be in thesame intensity and range. Wearcool colours together and warmcolours together. Pink lipsticksgo with blue and pink coloursand corals and russets go withclothing that falls in ayellow/orange range.

Steps to apply lip colour:1. Prepare your lips by

applying foundation over them(this will extend the wear).

2. Outline and define theshape using a lip pencil that hassoft, pointed top. Start at the V

in your upper lip drawing downto the corners. Then, starting atthe middle of the bottom lipdraw a line to the corners. Tohelp lipstick stay on longer, useyour pencil to cover the lipsentirely.

3. Fill in upper lip with lipstickor you can use a lip brush.

4. Fill in the lower lip andthen blot with a tissue andreapply.

5. Dab gloss in the centre ofyour lower lip to create a fullermore glamorous look.

When defining the lips with alip pencil be sure the pencil andlipstick colours are very close.

The lip liner should not benoticeable. Lip liners are meantto keep your lipstick in place, keep lipstick from bleeding, define the shape and help themlook more natural. Do not try tochange the shape of your lips bygoing outside the natural line.

* Dark lipsticks will makesmall lips appear smaller.

No matter which eating planyou follow, or which hot newdiet celebs are raving about, oneingredient remains consistentand that is to consume loadsand loads of water.

Water has been dubbed asnature’s own fat burner anddrinking enough water on adaily basis will help you not onlyshed those kilos, but thinkbetter, perform better and alsoimprove your skin condition andgeneral health.

Drinking water helps to flush

toxins out of your system andcan also help you get rid of thatextra weight you may becarrying. Why? Because drinkingwater has a positive impact onyour metabolism and promotesthe burning of energy or heat —known as thermogenesis.

When your metabolism is incheck, your healthy eating isgiven a faster boost, whichmeans your weight loss resultswill come quicker to you. Failingdrink adequate amounts ofwater, irrespective of your

eating plan will result in poorhydration and slow down yourmetabolism. So basically, at theend of the day you are moresusceptible to gaining extraweight because of your slowmetabolism.

Then there are other factorsto consider about drinkingwater to reach your weight lossgoals. First of all, when yourbody is deprived of water itoften sends signals to yourbrain, telling it to eat. That’s right— thirst is very oftenmisunderstood by the brain ashunger. So the next time you’refeeling overly peckish, trygulping down a few sips ofwater and see how you feel.

Secondly, water helps to fillyou up. Having a glass of plainwater to accompany your meal, instead of that fizzy diet drinkwill allow you to eat less and stillfeel fuller.

There are formulas availableto help you determine exactly,

to the tee, how much water yourbody requires for your specificweight and level of exerciseintensity. But, ideally you shouldaim at drinking six to eightglasses of water a day.

The best way to do this is todrink a glass or two with everymeal. Once you get the hang ofit, you will realize that you justcan’t live without it — not justfor weight loss reasons, but forthe hundred other beneficialeffects water has on your bodyand health.

Water — Nature’s Own Fat Burner

Ensuring that you are breathing correctly during yourworkouts and day-to-day living has many beneficial resultsthat you may or may not be aware of. The correct breathingtechnique will allow you to feel energised by unlocking yourenergy levels and allow you to perform more repetitions, expand your capacity and also eliminate harmful toxinsfrom your body.

Learning to breathe correctly takes some initial practice, but once you have mastered the technique, you’ll beamazed at how beneficial it in fact is. Yoga classes andPilates classes are very focused on the breathing techniqueand both of these practices have placed a high emphasis onlearning this technique.

Breathing is an automatic human process. However, youcan learn to manipulate it and control it to benefit yourbody. Focusing on the breath can bring about a stimulatedmetabolism, lowered blood pressure and better digestion, and also release any tension. Think about how many times you’vehad a bad day and just sat back and took a deep breath. Didn’t youfeel so much better?

Here are two basic breathing techniques that have been takenfrom the practice of yoga and can be beneficial to anyone:

Nadi SodhanaThis technique is also known as alternate nostril breathing. It

works by blocking one nostril and allowing the other to inhale theair, and then blocking that nostril and releasing the air through the

opposite nostril. This form ofbreathing is believed (by Yogis) torestore brain functioning andbalance in the body and mind.

To perform this technique, youshould be seated in a comfortable, upright position, preferably withyour knees crossed. Take yourright hand and use your thumb topush against the right nostril, closing it. Take a deep inhalationthrough your left nostril and, using your right pinky finger, closethe left nostril, holding the breath.Release the thumb from your rightnostril and exhale. With your rightnostril now open, take a deep

breath and repeat the process until you feel energised andrejuvenated.

SavasanaLie flat on your back, palms at your sides and facing upwards. Take

deep, deliberate breaths by inhaling and exhaling in a slow andcontrolled motion. In this breathing technique you should focus onfilling the lungs with air as you breathe and expand the abdomen. On your exhalation, slowly release all the negative energy while yourabdomen flattens out.

Pointing out that theSpanish housing market isgrowing again after years ofdeclines, with prices up 4%and sales up 14% over 12months to the end of thesecond quarter, Bernardosexplains the factors pushingup house prices, whilst assuring us that we arenowhere near another housing bubble, as all thekey market variables like sales, prices, housingstarts, and housing affordability are still a long wayfrom the levels reached in 2006 and 2007.

1) Homes are relatively cheap. In real terms(after inflation) the majority of Spanish homesnow cost half what they did in 2007, and areroughly back to what they were worth in 2002,before the boom got going. Bernardos saysSpanish property is now a “magnificentopportunity”, which will probably appreciate inprice. He forecasts that Spanish house prices willrise by 12% in 2016.

2) The willingness of banks to lend moremortgages. Banks today are awash with liquidityand struggling to earn good margins on lending. They have to make up for thin margins with higherlending volumes. Mortgages loans are less riskythan other types of credit, and help lock in clientsto cross sell other financial products. That explainswhy new mortgage lending rose 28.5% in July.

3) Housing is the best investment. That’s what

many risk-averse investors now think, looking atthe miserly returns on deposits, losses on fixed-income funds, and volatile equity markets. Inmiddle and up market city districts, saysBernardos, housing offers a mix of high expectedcapital gains (up to 50% in what remains of thisdecade), and rental yields of around 3.5% today, better than savings accounts.

4) Switching from renting to buying. Manyhouseholds sat out the crisis in rentedaccommodation, waiting for house prices tobottom out, mortgages to get cheaper, and theeconomy to pick up, argues Bernardos. Now thatthose conditions are all coming true, Spanishfamilies are jumping back into the market, unleashing pent up demand.

“A new stage of the housing market hasdefinitely begun,” concludes Bernardos. “In thisstage very cheap homes (in municipalities in themiddle of nowhere) will continue to exist, whilstothers will become very expensive (in the bestareas of the big cities). However, nothing will bethe same as the boom and bust of recent years.”

Why are Spanish house prices rising?

According to the latest statistics released by the Ministry of PublicWorks on housing values, the average price of housing in Spain roseby 1.2% in the second quarter of this year, compared to the sameperiod of 2014, to stand at 1,476.8 euros per square metre.

This is the first year-on-year increase registered in housing pricessince the third quarter of 2008, at the beginning of the crisis, andfollows 26 consecutive quarters of declines, during which timeprices have accumulated a reduction of 29.7%. In real terms, discounting inflation, house prices rose by 1.5%, their thirdconsecutive quarterly increase.

In the second quarter, prices increased for both new and secondhand homes (those over five years old). The value of new homes roseby 1% (to 1,732.9 euros/m2) while second hand housing pricesincreased by 1.3% (to 1,467.5 euros/m2).

According to the Ministry’s data, a total of 11 regions recordedyear-on-year increases in housing values, the greatest being thoseregistered in the Canary Islands (+4.1%), followed by Madrid andAragón (both +3.5%), while the regions which registered thegreatest declines in the second quarter were Asturias (-2.7%),Castilla-La Mancha (-1.5%), Murcia (-1.3%) and La Rioja (-1.3%).

El Mundo reported that San Sebastian remains the mostexpensive city for housing, with an average price per square metreof 3,059.1 euros, while the most economical of the towns with over25,000 of a population is Elda in Alicante, where the average priceper square metre stands at 540.5 euros.

The Ministry also highlighted that the price of social housingregistered a slight year-on-year decrease in the second quarter, of0.4%, and stood at 1,094.6 euros/m2.

Like every region of Spain, Valencia is very proud of itsgastronomy- and with a claim to fame as the city ofpaella, Valencia has every right to brag! Valencian cuisineis known for the unrivalled freshness of the productsthat go into its simple, scrumptious and- for younutrition fiends out there- predominantly healthydishes. Restaurants in Valencia tend to be relativelyinexpensive and creative with their dishes- the perfectcombination for a Valencian dining experience- so besure to try as many Valencia food dishes, drinks andtapas as possible!

Surrounding Valencia is a wide, green belt of the mostfertile land in Spain, known as "La Huerta." This primefarming zone came to be what it is today duringValencia's epoch under Islamic rule; the Moors arecredited with the irrigation system of dams and waterways that brought the water from the Turia River to LaHuerta. Cultivating rice, vegetables, citrus fruits, grapes, olives and a wide range of other products, "La Huerta"continues to provide the city of Valencia with all thefresh agricultural products it could possibly ask for. Plus,

with up to four major harvests each year, thesupply never runs out!

Valencia's second major source of freshproducts is the great expanse of theMediterranean Sea, whose waters lap gentlyalong the edge of the city. Valencia's economy hasalways relied heavily upon its seaside location, whether through commerce and trade overseasas a major Mediterranean port or through thedaily catches of fish and shellfish. Some of themost common seafood that you're likely to comeacross on any restaurant's menu are sardines, hake, red mullet, anglerfish, octopus, mackerel, cuttlefish, mussels, shrimp and prawns- but trustus, that's an abbreviated list!

Valencia is known for its dishes featuring rice, aproduct that plays a pretty crucial role upon the stage ofValencian gastronomy. Naturally, the reigning king ofrice dishes is the internationally famous paella. Agenuine paella is cooked in a large pan, called a paellera, over a wood fire and is a social dish- meaning it's meant

to be shared amongst atleast two people. There aretwo so-called "purist"paella dishes: paellavalenciana (Valencianpaella) and paella marinera(Sailor's paella).

• Paella valencianaSpanish rice cooked

with chicken (and / orrabbit), sweet pepper, tomatoes, green beans, olive oil, saffron, and

sometimes artichokes and peas.• Paella marinera Spanish rice cooked with mussels, calamares, shrimp,

lobster, clams, garlic, olive oil, tomatoes, saffron- plusany other shellfish that the cook feels like throwing in.

Naturally the Valencian specialty extends muchfurther than two paella dishes. Here are a few morepopular rice dishes- be sure to try them!

Speculation ismounting that JeremyClarkson's new AmazonPrime show be called GearKnobs, after BuzzFeeddiscovered a trademarkapplication for the cheekytitle by Clarkson's lawyers,Olswang.

The application wasmade a fortnight beforethe former Top Gearpresenter announced adeal worth a reported £160m to make anew series with Amazon. It was filedthrough a shell company, which has alsoregistered the title "Gear Nobs".

A third title – Speedbirds – was alsoregistered by the lawyers. The DailyMirror wonders if this name could be newmoniker for "a Stig-like character inClarkson, Hammond and May's newshow". The filings mean the titles can beused for TV shows and merchandising.

The Top Gear brand was worth anestimated £150m a year in sales to theBBC through a lucrative combination oflive shows, DVD sales, and all manner ofbranded merchandise, including Stigbubble bath and Top Gear birthdaycakes.

However, the risqué names may notbe what Amazon has in mind. Althoughthe applications were made in the middleof July, at the end of August the

company’s boss Roy Price said the teamwere still struggling to find a name for theshow.

When asked about the reported newtitle, an Amazon spokesman said:"Amazon does not comment onspeculation."

Earlier this week, his sidekick JamesMay tweeted a photograph of himselfwith the caption "Here I am again, looking like a nob."

Hammond recently told ITV’s ThisMorning presenters Phillip Schofield andHolly Willoughby: “The point is, anamazing opportunity has come along forus to evolve and reinvent what we do,and we’re all just charged. It’s kind ofwonderful, at our stage in life and career,we’ve got the opportunity to do exactlythat when, otherwise, let’s be honest, youmight not.”

MG’s products have had to tough it out in the market, with longer established and more polished rival choices, despite the fanfare surrounding the company’sresurrection. The mid-size MG6 delivered a surprisinglyconvincing package of performance, space and style, especially if you were one of MG’s many cynics.

Even so, the MG6 wasn’t perfect but MG has listenedto feedback from buyers and the media, resulting in thisthoroughly refreshed second-generation car. Subtleexterior tweaks see a modest nose and tail update butcabin quality, driving dynamics, engine and kit levelshave all been improved, along with lower prices andsimplified trim levels.MG Motor MG6Price: MG Motor MG6 TS, £16,195 (S £13,995, TL £17,995)Engine: 1.9-litre, 148bhp, four-cylinder turbo dieselTransmission: Six-speed manual driving front wheelsPerformance: 0-62mph 8.4 seconds; top speed 120mph(limited)MPG: 61.4 combinedCO2 emissions: 119g/km

Looks and imageThe five-door hatchback version was always

handsome beast and the modest revisions have donemuch to boost its kerb appeal. The cabin also boastsbetter quality materials and an improved infotainmentsystem on higher trim levels. The result is a morerounded and competent package, and one that shouldsilence the MG critics.

Space and practicalityThe hatchback layout offers a good level of cabin

space and versatility for carrying large loads. The tailgateopens nice and high, the interior boasts ample room forfive and, fold the rear seats, carrying capacity increasesto a useful compact estate-rivalling level.

Behind the wheelThere was little wrong with the original MG6 but that

didn’t stop prevent a programme of improvements. It’s aone-engine range now but the 1.9-litre turbo diesel isnow more responsive and economical, while the basicdriving experience has benefited from a 75kg weight-loss programme.

The 148bhp diesel is a willingperformer, while engine noise hasbeen kept to a pleasing minimum. TheMG6 was always a decent steer andthis remains the case. Refinementlevels in the cabin are impressive, andthe driving position is comfortablewith good all-round visibility.

Value for moneyThe combination of a meaningful

price cut and ramping up of standardkit levels should do much to enticebuyers who were less than convincedfirst time around. The simplified three-model line-up offers good value, with

middle and top grades gaining plenty of kit includingsat-nav, high-power headlights, DAB and Bluetooth. Andrunning costs are likely to be modest with the diesel’seconomy and modest CO2 rating.

Who would buy one?Anyone seeking a mid-size car for not a lot of money

should take a serious look at this revised MG6. Brandloyalists won’t need convincing but others should nowsee the car for what it really is – a handsome five-doorhatch boasting high levels of standard kit, an engagingdriving experience, ample cabin space and a decentblend of performance and economy.

Porsche has unveiled its Teslacompetitor: a concept electriccar that boasts 0 to 60 in 3.5seconds, 600 horsepower and atop speed of 155 mph plus, allwhile charging to 80% within 15minutes.

The car’s speed is madepossible by the introduction ofan 800-volt charging portdelivering power to twopermanent magneticsynchronous motors. Porschehave developed the technologyin their Le Mans winning 919 car, which uses similar motors andrecovers energy used whilebraking.

This concept is entirelyelectric, and makes use of newwireless charging technologykept in the floor of drivewaysand garages. It has a 310 milerange and space for fourpassengers.

The interior matches thefuturistic concepts in theengineering of the car. Porschesaid that “Instruments are

intuitively operated by eye-tracking and gesture control, some even via holograms –highly oriented toward thedriver by automaticallyadjusting the displays to thedriver’s position”.

The outside design matchesPorsche’s trademark styling. While adapting the design to thelack of a combustion engine, exhaust system or transmissiontunnel, exterior has takeninspiration from their modernracing cars as well as theinstantly recognisable form ofthe 911.

However, Tesla won’t be easilyoutmatched. The Mission-E willhave to compete with ElonMusk’s recently announced“Ludicrous Mode” for the TeslaModel S P85D, which beats outserious supercar competitionwith a 0 to 60 time of 2.8seconds. With a claimed 762hp,and available as an upgrade onthe Model S P85D it is thefurthest electric vehicles havebeen pushed yet.

The Porsche is the first highend purely electric sports carbuilt by a traditional carmanufacturer. Previously, Teslahad only to compete withcompact cars like the NissanLeaf.

Jaguar XE 2.0d R-Sport: Not quite thevery British success story it might seem

Price: £34,775Engine capacity: 2.0-litre turbo dieselPower output (BHP @ RPM): 178 @ 4,000Top speed (MPH): 140Fuel economy (MPG): 67.3CO2 EMISSIONS (G/KM): 109

In many ways, the Jaguar XE is themost important British car to launch thisyear or perhaps in the past five years. What other new car heralded not one,but two new factories and thousands ofnew jobs?

Automotive economics and numerousvisits from George Osborne to the twonew Midlands plants aside (he can't resistthe photo-op, but Jaguar is actuallyIndian-owned these days), the new XE isup against some serious, almost exclusivelyGerman, opposition including the Audi A4, BMW 3Series and Mercedes C-Class.

These cars are global sales success stories, butthey are rather, well, dull. Thankfully, the new XE iscertainly pretty enough to compete against itdour rivals, and thanks to Jaguar's new range ofIngenium efficient engines, it's clean andeconomical enough to compete. But is it the fullpackage?

First, the negatives. In places, the interiorswitches feel a little cheap compared to rivalmodels. Nonetheless, the cabin is hardly a badplace to spend a few hours, especially when youconsider the XE's compliant ride and smoothengine.

Sadly, it's not quite the same for passengers inthe rear, where head and knee room are in shortsupply. It's not vastly smaller than the A4 or 3Series, but it feels too tight for comfort, a feeling

not helped in the front by the cocoon-like side-panels. A taller driver might struggle more thanthey'd like in a car worth £35,000.

The test of the XE happily coincided with a tripto Scotland. Here, the geographically challengedcabin becomes a cockpit wrapped around you andthe sensible XE becomes a pleasure to drive. There's no doubt its rivals are competent andrewarding to drive, but there's nothing likepushing a Jaguar that little bit too much on a wideA-road. The steering is responsive and delightfullyweighted and there is plenty of gruff bite in theengine to zip along nicely.

Jaguars have always been able to offerunhurried speed and handling, but the XE is thefirst big car to offer that in a smaller and (more)affordable package – the entry-level XE is £7,000cheaper than the larger XF model. There has, itseems, never been a better time to buy British.Well Indian, but who cares about that.

CD TORREVIEJA took all three pointson Sunday with a two nil victory overfellow bottom of the table rivals CDMuro. With both teams sitting in therelegation zone, it was a vital threepoints for Torrevieja, who never lookedparticularly threatened by the visitors.Torrevieja went one up on eightminutes following a play inspired byLuis Carlos and Cesar down the leftwing, finding an unmarked Lewis onthe edge of the six yard box to put ithome.

A few minutes later Lewis starredagain, following up on a speculativethrough ball when he tried to beat thekeeper Samblás, the Muro manhandled the ball outside the area andwas shown an immediate red card.Down to ten men, Torrevieja started toenjoy the majority of the procession.Torrevieja scored their second goalthrough a good move that sawCarrasco score from just inside thearea and then three or four chancesquickly followed.

After the break, Muro's constant

pulling, fouling, throwing themselvesto the ground in fake agony started tospoil the flow of the game and theextra player made little difference tothe game, except that Torry KeeperOscar was hardly bothered the entiregame. However, Torrevieja were notable to capitalise with having theextra man, many times making theirplays unnecessarily complicated withsome lack of coordination andintercepted passes that led to a briefMuro attack. The expulsion of Muro'sAlex Torrella left only nine opponentson the pitch but still Torrevieja's playmaking was not conducive to goalscoring.

Three points is three points andfrom second bottom CD Torrevieja arenow 17th out of 20 teams with Muronow propping up the division. NextSunday Torrevieja travel to Novelda, who are flying high in sixth place, forwhat promises to be a very difficultgame.

By Andy JeffersCD MONTESINOS began their new

league campaign with a new manager, newpresident and several new players, and thisperformance gave the 40 plus travellingsupport much optimism of a good seasonahead. The early stages were dour to saythe least with both sides cancelling outeach other, but Monte were playing themore accurate passing controlled footballand rigid formation, not seen last season, and new boss Roberto Casas wasconstantly shouting instructions. Macanwent close found by Orouker.

On 25mins Orouker’s goal-bound shotwas bravely blocked by the San Fulgenciono8. Newcomer Dario had a thunderousshot skim the post and Yonhi produced agood save from distance as Monte piled onthe pressure. M&A was pulled back runningthrough, and only a yellow was given tohome defender. Monte’s dominance finallypaid off, though fortunate, as a clearancericochet fell to Macan to coolly slot past theadvancing keeper on the stoke of half time,0-1. San Fulgencio did not manage a shoton target in the half, all credit to Monte’sorganisation and strict discipline. H/T 0-1

San Fulgencio started the brighter in the2nd period but Monte stuck to theirregimental formation and began strokingthe ball like Dick Whittington would do tohis cat. Always comfortable, the away sideupped the pressure as playing a high lineMonte got behind them and went closewhen Macan’s shot deflected just over thebar. M&A selfishly shot wide when Macanwas in acres of space. With Monte totally in

control and Yonhi & Play dominant inmidfield, San Fulgencio resorted to hardtactics, and several cynical fouls wererightly yellow carded. Young Paredesreplaced Dario and his pace saw him have 3different markers in 5 min’s. M&A came offfor Wallace whose pace also causedproblems on the right side, and his firsttouch produced a fine save.

San Fulgencio left 3 at the backsearching for an equaliser, and great workby Wallace down the right, cleverly cutinside, laid the ball to Macan to smashhome on 85 min’s. 0-2. An innocent clashinvolving Dimitry saw him yellow cardedlate on and Montes manager immediatelysubbed him for Jose Antonio. Final scoreSan Fulgencio 0 Cd Montesinos 2. Man ofmatch was awarded to Yonhi on behalf ofsponsors Breeze Bar, Benimar.
