The students in Mrs. Hamernik’s class set up a rainforest, and students in Mrs. Olson’s class set up a zoo. During our rainforest/zoo open house, students told the visitors some facts that they learned about their animal or topic when they did their research. The Prairie Farm Ladies Civic Club had 72 children attend their an- nual Easter egg hunt. Lots of prizes were given out including donations from the BP gas station. We also gave certicates from Sherri’s and Amundson’s Gas Station. The club gave a $100 donation to the 5th grade “DARE” graduation towards “DARE” t-shirts. Also, a $100 donation was given to PFHS Junior Class for the post-prom. Plans are underway for the up- coming Dairy Days celebration in July. It will be held on Friday and Saturday, July 13 and 14. It will in- clude a garden tractor pull, bean bag tournament, run-walk fundraiser for PFHS, dairy show, quilt show, duck race and a parade. Anyone willing to work at any of these events, contact Donna Miller or Twyla Miller. You need not live in the village. Thrift sales will be held in the Prairie Farm area on Saturday, May 5. If you would like to get on the map, call Twyla Miller or Sherrie Siebert. Spring clean-up in the village will take place soon. Dates are set for May 9, 16, and 23, at 5:00. We will meet by the Village Hall. All help is appreciated! Scholarship committee chair will be Char Roemhild, Debbie Hem- auer, and Vickie Bonkrude. We give two $200 scholarships to students of the senior class each year. A number of local dartball players made the short trip to Eau Claire for the 73rd annual nine-man State Dart- ball Tournament March 24-25. In a ceremony held Saturday, March 24, the late James Rassbach was in- ducted into the Wisconsin Dartball Hall of Fame. Rassbach-a Prairie Farm native-was responsible for a number of locals taking up the sport. He ran the Prairie Farm league for a number of years and also the North- west Wisconsin Tournament for 40 years. The tournament draws teams to Prairie Farm each February, and is still put on by the Rassbach family, now 59 years in the running. Rassbach was one of the area’s top hitters for many years and was also responsible for starting the rst women’s team in the Prairie Farm area. Rassbach’s family, including his son Gary, who was inducted with the Hall of Fame’s rst class in 2010 Giant killers–Sponsored by Extreme Clean of Eau Claire, but with a roster chalk full of locals, a local women’s team beat nine-time defending champion LR Trophy of Kewaskum before falling to Landmark Tavern of Athens at the State Dartball Tournament held last month in Eau Claire. Pam Ford of Menomonie, Bette Rassbach of Prairie Farm, Rhonda Olson of Hillsdale and Peggy Rassbach of Prairie Farm all played with the Arland Comets when the State Tournament was last held in Eau Claire in 1985. That year they placed second to LR Trophy–against some of same women they played this year. Of the four, only Ford had played in another state tournament over the 27-year span. Without James Rassbach’s efforts years ago, a group of local ladies probably wouldn’t have participated in the 2012 State Tournament. They entered the 13-team women’s eld as Extreme Clean II. The group advanced to the quarter- nals and then knocked off nine-time defending champion LR Trophy of Kewaskum. The quarternal drew more attention than any other on championship Sunday, with Extreme Clean winning the rst and third game of the three-game set. Glee en- sued, with a few men, longtime local players who would probably like to remain unnamed, shedding tears. However, the ladies didn’t have enough steam left in the engine to take down last year’s second place team, Landmark Tavern of Athens, and nished second after falling in the title set. The State Tournament was in Eau Claire for the rst time since 1985 The late James Rassbach and drew a near-record 87 teams; 14 in Class A, 30 in both Class B and C, along with the 13 women’s teams. The tourney is held in central or southern Wisconsin most years and a number of northwest Wisconsin teams took advantage of this year’s proximity–17 teams took part in the tournament for the rst time. Two locals, Terry Olson of Hills- dale and Bill Dubnicka of Cameron, played with Gerhard’s Plumbing of Eau Claire. The team, which nished rst in Class A last year at Green Bay, was the second best squad in this year’s 87-team eld.
