Hello everyone, Welcome to our first Tesla Owners Club Ontario newsletter. I’d like to thank Jill Johnson, Aniseh Sharifi and Victoria Warner for taking the initiative and their hard work on this. The idea of the newsletter is to bring everybody together, talk about the events that you may have missed, to keep you informed on upcoming events, all things Tesla and electric cars. I just came back from a Tesla Owners Club Summit down in California and I will be talking about it at our next meeting, so if you haven’t come out to a meeting, please do. We have some exciting guest speakers coming up over the next few months. The club is really growing, we’ve almost doubled the number of members in the last three or four months, which is awesome. Look forward to seeing you all in the near future. Say Goodbye John Dixon We're a community of Tesla Owners and Reservation Holders in Ontario

Winter is upon us –
That’s what my Model 3 is telling me
with a snowflake on the screen!
Things to think about:
Whether you choose the Tesla
package, or an aftermarket tire
suggested by a fellow Tesla owner,
winter tires are a must (see below).
Plugging in overnight – get the
battery (and car) warmed and ready
(try setting the charging time so that
it ends just as you’re ready to go in
the morning).
Turn on climate control (Tesla ap) a
few minutes before you drive.
Door handles, windows, wipers and
folding mirrors all require
consideration. Turn off folding
mirrors & auto wipers, just in case.
Regen braking is limited, so adjust
your driving/braking habit.
And lastly, watch for cautions and
notices that show on the screen.
If you have a question or an answer to a question you’ve heard…send it in. We’ll find and share the answers.
From Jack Yin: from the October TOCO meeting, in response to a new Model 3 owner asking about winter tires and wheels sent
this info. (THANKS Jack!! Great info to share.)
Here are some resources for new Model 3 (18 inch tires):
For the tires, the critical spec is also the Load Rating/Index, 98+ is good. Speed Index can be lower than W (270 km/h) unless
you're going to the track in minus 20 C weather.
Wheels critical specs to pay attention to are:
• 18 x 8 / 8.5 / 9
• Offset: 40 +/- 5 (Do not go under 35 or over 45)
• PCD: 5X114.3
• Center Bore: 64.1mm (Hub rings can be used if chosen rim is larger)
• Lug Nut Spec: 13/16 Hex, 14X1.50 Thread (Test OEM Nut seating on wheel)
• Load Rating/Index needs to be greater than 1660 lbs

V 9.0 - A Brief Overview By a Model S AP 2.0 Owner by Lucas Warner
The New Autopilot Version 9.0 software has been long awaited by many owners especially people with cars that
have the newer AP 2 hardware. This new software release was originally supposed to bring vast improvements to
AP and finally unlock some of those long-ago promised EAP features such as Drive on Nav (not available in
Canada yet). Up until the 11th hour this was going to be pushed to all owners in North America with many videos
popping up of pre-release early access cars changing lanes all by themselves on the highway! As an owner who
has purchased everything for the car software wise all the way up to FSD, I was very excited to see this finally
happening.
There has been some considerable waiting for everyone who purchased the entire $11,400 Autopilot Suite (over a
year or more for some) and unfortunately it looks like there will be more waiting as this feature again has been
delayed. As for what was delivered in the update, I can safely say there are a significant number of beneficial
changes most specifically for people who have AP 2.0 and above hardware. The most notable feature is the change
to the Autopilot display, your car is now shown further away and the road is displayed both ahead and behind your
car. This means you are now able to see other cars all around your vehicle and most especially in your car’s blind
zones. Previously blind spot detection was only performed by the ultrasonic sensors and now all 8 cameras are
active and cars are being detected from much farther away. The largest change I have noticed in how Autopilot
drives is that it has a slightly increased level of inconsistency. I would caution anyone who has been using version
8.0 AP extensively to be more attentive when using AP 9.0 even on known roads that may not have had issues
previously. Although in my experience it has been able to handle more complex road situations on AP 9.0 so far,
there has been several situations where it has wanted to pull right or left as if to avoid something where no
obstacles existed.
The interface changes on the Model S/X are across all AP versions and have been made to unify the styling and
setup of the centre screen compared to the Model 3. There has been some people who are strongly opposed to this
change as it has removed the ability to have two apps split screen so, for example, you are no longer able to have
the backup camera in combination with anything but the map. If this has been an issue for you after the update,
there is an option where you can have three apps open, the top app always has to be the map, the middle app must
be the music player and the bottom app can be any of the other apps including the backup camera. This is not a
straightforward solution as the bottom two apps must be dragged upwards together using two fingers. If anyone
needs assistance on how to do this please see me at the next meeting. I would be happy to help!
For anyone wondering about the dash cam functionality, it’s unfortunately currently reserved for cars with AP 2.5
hardware or above so my vehicle does not have it but, according to recent Tweets from Elon, anyone who paid for
full AP up front like I did will have their hardware updated as needed to support the full functionality.
In my personal opinion, the many small improvements in combination with the large change to AP have made
Version 9.0 a much more substantial update then the last major release from Tesla. I can’t wait to see what the rest
of the revision updates for 9.0 bring in the coming months.

Fun times at Tesla Club of Ontario BBQ – Sunday September 24
Our 2nd Tesla Club of Ontario Family BBQ at Tesla in Oakville was a great success. We had 192 people who attended.
87 Tesla owners brought friends and family members along to enjoy the beautiful weather, food, and company. We
had a great representation of Model 3 owners and two roadsters. This event had a significant growth in attendance
from last year’s BBQ, which means we have more Tesla drivers on the road this year. 427 Auto Collision, Aviva and
Inception Auto Detailing generously sponsored this event and provided the BBQ lunch for us. The big draw prizes of
the day were the three car covers from Evannex as well as jackets and other lifestyle items purchased by the club or
donated from Tesla Canada. With our cool music, nice food set up and plenty of mingling bodies and kids playing, we
were attracting all the right kind of attention from passersby.
Thank you to the organizers and our sponsors, and particularly to our new Ludicrous sponsor, 427 Auto Collision, for a
great Sunday Funday.
Looking for Teslas!
Patrizia Soscia saw a few Teslas including her own at
the Angel Foundation for Learning Ride to Feed the
Soul September 29. The group was small but mighty
and from what I hear all had a great time. For more
details, see http://www.angelfoundationforlearning.org
As part of Electric Drive Week, Grand Valley (just west
of Orangeville) celebrated their 3 Tesla HPWC and 1
Sun Country J1772. On Sunday September 16, 7
Teslas (3 S's, 3 3's and 1 (brand new) Roadster)
made the trek to Grand Valley They met the Mayor,
Steve Solomon and had a nice lunch at the Mill Creek
Pub in downtown Grand Valley.
If you have a sighting or gathering to share (before or
after the event), email me [email protected] and
I’ll include it here to share with other Tesla owners.

“Tesla Needs Our Help” – International Centre Delivery Event Experience
On Sunday September 23, an email from Tesla Owners Club of Ontario (TOCO) arrived in our inboxes with subject
line: Tesla Needs Our Help: Model 3 Deliveries”. Who could resist responding “YES, I’ll help” if they could find the
time. Ok, we know, not all of us could, but for the 41 TOCO members who did, it was a rewarding experience. They
were happy to volunteer their time and energy. John Dixon kept this effort organized. Working in shifts at the
International Centre, Club members chatted with new Tesla owners. Conversations bounced between charging at
home or on the road, to winter tires and anything in between! The Club members mingled with eager new owners and
their families, trying to keep them engaged during the wait for their time to get their new vehicle.
Most of the week was relatively smooth with Friday, Saturday (and an impromptu Sunday!) being the busiest – with
more people, and longer wait times. Many new owners brought their entire family along for the delivery experience;
and some had driven in from Ottawa, Timmins, and London, to name just a few. Excitement abound – getting their
much-anticipated Model 3 (or Model S or Model X). The International Centre was lively with children playing, adults
chatting (and filling up with caffeine and sugar) and very energetic Tesla employees buzzing around like the busy
bees they were. Tesla employees managed the details – the ownership/ licencing/purchase paperwork. Club
members answered any additional questions these new owners had about the Tesla’s key features (“drive”, “park”, or
where the charging port is) before the new owners drove off. The electricity was all round.
Our efforts were acknowledged. Jennifer Zimmerman from Tesla Canada said “We wanted to reach out to thank you
and the Owner’s Club for all of your support…The extra help has made this historic quarter smoother for our delivery
team and it certainly was appreciated by the new owners taking delivery.” John Dixon noted the success with these
words “I know you took time out of your personal schedules to participate and many of you stayed for an extra shift or
came back for another unscheduled day. …We’ve had great feedback on social media as well as emails from new members thanking us.” The energy of the delivery event can only be a sign of what we can continue to expect in
Ontario with more and more EV drivers. As our club continues to grow, we look forward to welcoming more owners to
the Tesla family. And Tesla’s Jennifer Zimmerman agrees “We are very fortunate to have such dedicated, amazing
owners – no other care company can boast about their owners like Tesla can, As for the new owners, what better
way to experience their new Tesla than a warm welcome to the Tesla community from a current owner.”
