GUIDELINES FOR CONDITIONAL REGISTRATION (CLUB PLATES)

All NRVVCC members should familiarize themselves with the NSW RMS rules and club rules surrounding how to use your vehicles on Conditional registration, together with the requirement to carry certain documents in

the vehicle whenever it is being used.

If you are on the log book trial, the RMS issued log book must be completed by the member before you use the vehicle for anything other than NRVVCC club outings. Vehicles not on log book, the member should

phone/email the secretary when a movement is needed for anything other than club outings.

Any member with vehicles(s) conditionally registered through the NRVVCC and who do not attend a minimum of three club events per calendar year (not including registration day & meetings) may be asked by

the committee to show cause as to why the club should sanction the renewal of their registration in the following year.

The Club cannot afford the risk of the system being abused and the subsequent loss of the benefits of

these worthwhile concessions for other Club members.

Re; NRVVCC 2020 60th Anniversary Rally

Due to the COVID Virus and the unknown future for our club event,

also the unavailability of our venues at this present time, the committee

of the Northern Rivers V.V Car Club has sadly decided to postpone

our 2020 rally.

When our club is able to meet again we will decide on a rally date for 2021.

We normally hold our rallies in August so for next year it will remain the same month.

We will contact all interested in participating with a firm date as soon

as possible.

Treasurers Report

While we are not meeting Eric will still pay any accounts that come in for payment. General Account to the end of March, accounts were postage & mail box rent. The other

accounts remain the same. All will be itemised at our next meeting whenever that might be.

Secretary's Report

No business to report. The last klaxon was sent and only this newsletter by email. All magazines from other clubs have been forwarded to those who have requested them.

There were only a couple of clubs cancelling events until further notice.

Happy Birthday to

President Garry

60 years young.

The club management committee hope everyone is safe and in good health, also coping

well in this period of isolation. We hope this will be over soon.

Easter Weekend

During the Easter weekend Ben Clift attended a car show n shine.

He didn't have far to go however it was a small group that turned up,

he said it was a bit boring as he has

seen them all before.

It was a lovely sunny day and all

the vehicles were all well presented

and an online vote declared the 26

Tourer winner of the people's choice

trophy (thanks Val from Tamworth for

your vote).

As there were no food stalls or BBQs

at the event, Ben had to walk back

across the back lawn to the kitchen for morning tea and lunch , lucky

it wasn't far.

Ben has also a new vehicle for the shed

collection , other Chev. It looks great Ben.

President Garry has also another vehicle to add to his fleet, it is an

Essex Sedan.

‘Hay, Hell and Booligal.’ (Apology to The Banjo.)

I had a call recently regarding old car parts that fit a certain rare British Marque that I am interested in. The long and short was an offer of spare gear boxes (2) and, as my car has a dodgy low gear spur on the cluster, I thought it fortuitous to investigate.

The story was that one box was original, the other had new parts fitted some years ago and was never run. I saw some paperwork and the price was not outrageous. The parts were in Walkerville, which I discovered is a suburb of Adelaide, SA. Beverley and I had visited the region just a few years ago and enjoyed some decent wines at Angaston, which is near Nuriootpa, also in SA, also not far from Walkerville. By coincidence, Cobdogla which is near Waikerie, is not all that far from Wakefield. Getting to Wakefield seemed fairly simple, it’s about half way to Perth if one takes the shortest way out, (but not necessarily the longest way home), as they say.

We loaded the Subaru Forester, cranked up the Navman and headed off. First stop was the home of the McFeeter’s Car Museum, Forbes. Worth a visit for its collection. Then simply heading south-ish to reach Renmark for the second stop. Little traffic, and good roads in a car that almost drives itself, was not tiring. The Country was recovering from drought, Dorothea’s verses rang in our ears even though she spent most of her life in Sydney and visited Gunnedah occasionally. Worth stopping in Gunnedah to view her Bronze figure mounted, on a bronze horse. Mt Kaputar was another stunning view, I had only ever flown over it years earlier and got lost trying to find it on that occasion. Then we passed the scene of a monument to the Myall Aboriginal massacres. Very sobering.

Before too long we reached Hay. There is no way to describe this region, if you have lived most of your life where one can grow bananas. The dreaded Hay plains are nothing short of desolate, even in a good year. I’m certain that the only reason to establish a town here was because it is half way to no-where! Close by is a place named Hell’s Gate station, I’m told. Also nearby a hamlet named Booligal. Sheep dwelt in this region. We saw signs seeking to ‘BAN IRRIGATORS’! It’s obvious that all this inland country needs is water, and luck, to farm successfully. Reaching Mildura was uplifting, green everywhere after the brown of the plains. Monuments to the Chaffey Brothers and the layout of the streets of Mildura that resemble an American city show just where the Chaffey’s made their contribution to Australian Horticulture. Irrigation is still the magic word! Ernestine Hill’s book ‘Water into Gold’ is an apt description of just how this region was transformed. A little further on the hamlet of Cobdogla appears. It houses the only remaining ‘Humphrey’ pump, still operating, in the entire world! Too complicated to describe here, but if you can imagine an engine/water pump combined, with no crankshaft, you might start to think just how unique these pumps are! You will have to resort to Goggling ‘Humphrey Pumps’ - Cobdogla to learn more.

Renmark was a place we will remember for the ‘desertification’ of former irrigation land now taking place. Sad and frightening. Sand covering the road in places. Our journey continued and we reached Angaston, then Walkerville, passing through vineyards and endless numbers of typically S A stone cottages, really pretty countryside and of course grapes everywhere. Evidence also of bushfire damage right through the Adelaide hills. Almost like selective burning with evidence of fire jumping from hills across to adjoining properties and destroying houses and sheds at random.

We met up with another Lagonda owner and inspected the gearboxes which I loaded into the Subie, not a lot of extra weight for this Forester Wagon and we commenced our trip home.

Page 6: Club Events 2020€¦ · 10th Club Meeting 1st July Mid-Week - N M 12th Club Meeting 14th – Memorial Day-Club Outing – 8th Club Meeting 11/16th Annual NRVVCC Rally 60th Anniversary

Decided to come home the long way, well why not? So we headed for the Great Ocean Road. What a sight it is although we did not really want to stop and gawk about. It’s the sort of region one could spend quite some time engaged in photography. It’s also the sort of remote picturesque countryside that is open to rampant development, a bit like Byron Bay and other coastal regions. Sad.

Our route was South through Mt Gambier-Apollo Bay and Lorne, then Geelong, hoping to find accommodation. Not a chance-there was some sort of festival/holiday in Victoria so we decided on an all-night drive up through the middle of Victoria-probably the best way to see it! Ballarat, Bendigo and Echuca, all inhabited at night by enormous Kangaroos and Taxi Cabs simply whizzed by and we passed through Deniliquin and Hay (once again) and decided to stop in Gilgandra, home of the Call to Arms, the COO-EEE march, for a decent night’s rest!

The run through to Numulgi was a breeze and the Subie brought us home safely after covering about 8000klm in around 44hrs on the road. Would we do it all again? Not soon, but I have been tempted! (There’s a lot of stuff to see out there that doesn’t appear in the NRMA travel guides!) BTW, if any gear enthusiast would like to see the insides of a David Brown, Aston Martin DB2 gear box, you could simply contact me, when the CV holidays are over!

I'm normally a social girl

I love to meet my mates

But lately with the virus here

We can't go out the gates.

You see, we are the 'oldies' now

We need to stay inside

If they haven't seen us for a while

They'll think we've upped and died.

They'll never know the things we did

Before we got this old

There wasn't any Facebook

So not everything was told.

We may seem sweet old ladies

Who would never be uncouth

But we grew up in the 60s -

If you only knew the truth!

There was sex and drugs and rock 'n roll

The pill and miniskirts

We smoked, we drank, we partied

And were quite outrageous flirts.

Then we settled down, got married

And turned into someone's mum,

Somebody's wife, then nana,

Who on earth did we become?

We didn't mind the change of pace

Because our lives were full

But to bury us before we're dead

Is like a red rag to a bull!

So here you find me stuck inside

For 4 weeks, maybe more

I finally found myself again

Then I had to close the door!

It didn't really bother me

I'd while away the hour

I'd bake for all the family

But I've got no bloody flour!

Now Netflix is just wonderful

I like a gutsy thriller

I'm swooning over Idris

Or some random sexy killer.

At least I've got a stash of booze

For when I'm being idle

There's wine and whiskey, even gin

If I'm feeling suicidal!

So let's all drink to lockdown

To recovery and health

And hope this bloody virus

Doesn't decimate our wealth.

We'll all get through the crisis

And be back to join our mates

Just hoping I'm not far too wide

To fit through the flaming gates!

Thanks John
