description

At some point in time, organizations of all sizes would find some advantage in implementing Cloud computing. It is inevitable and we may ask ourselves what is actually holding us back in implementing it today. Perhaps fear, lack of resources or the most common issue of convincing the higher management about the underlying benefits. This presentation can be used to address the last issue.

• When deciding on the new technology, we are concerned about

Lack of trained resources Lack of expertise Cost! Expansion

• “Success Disaster”

Page 3: Cloud presentation

• More then 70% is spent on maintaining current IT infrastructures versus adding new capabilities.

Page 4: Cloud presentation

• In distributed computing environments, up to 85% of computing capacity sits idle.

• The New York Times, for example, used Amazon Web Services (EC2 and S3) to generate PDFs of 11 million articles in the paper's archives in less than 24 hours using 100 instances of EC2, instead of buying hardware for the project, Derek Gottfrid senior software architect for the Times, wrote in his blog

• Horizontal Services Provide Platform for development of new services.

• Infrastructure Services Provide hardware (computing) services.

• Functional Services Provide functionality as services. E.g SalesForce and

• “Gmail also showed how much you could do with web-based software, if you took advantage of what later came to be called "Ajax." And that was the second cause of Microsoft's death: everyone can see the desktop is over. It now seems inevitable that applications will live on the web—not just email, but everything, right up to Photoshop. Even Microsoft sees that now. “

Paul Graham – Developer of First web-based application, VIA Web , YAHOO!

• “….In the end, with RIAs we can quickly create powerful, well-designed applications that focus on experience. The easier that is, the more developers we'll have chomping at the bit regardless of the medium or specific technology. Then we have more innovation, more competition, and better experiences for the users”

• According to an article “Top Ten skills you need to develop in IT”, Software as a service takes one of the spots and there is no mention of desktop applications.

• Live Services: A way to access the 450 Million Microsoft user ‘s data!.

• Mesh Services: Enables synchronizing user’s data and extending applications across multiple devices.

Page 20: Cloud presentation

User services provide facilities for managing all aspects of a user’s Mesh (devices, applications, and data) and enabling sharing of those resources across multiple users.

Device services provide facilities for managing the collection of heterogeneous devices within a user’s Mesh, including relationships, status, and security services.

Application Management services facilitate the configuration; deployment and versioning of applications which utilize the Live Framework including Web-enabled Mesh Applications.

Synchronization services as it ensures the synchronization of data and metadata between applications, devices, and the cloud
