care
Through one-to-one caring and confidential rela-
tionships, those who are hurting can receive the
love and care they need to support them through
difficult times.
What is a Stephen Minister?
† A child of God who walks
beside a hurting person
† A caring Christian friend
who really listens
† A lay person who has re-
ceived 50 hours of training in how to provide
distinctively Christian care
For more information or a confidential referral
to a Stephen Minister, please call Stephen Min-
istry Team Leader Ron Waters or the Church
Office.
Skeins of Love Prayer Shawl Ministry
Meets in the Admin Bldg at 10:00am on
Thursdays. All skill levels are welcome. Yarn is
provided and lessons are available.
If you would like to request a shawl to com-
fort or celebrate someone you know, please call
the Church Office.
Interested in an afternoon or
night prayer group?
If you are, we need you! We have a morn-
ing prayer group that meets every Tuesday at
9:30-10:30am in the Annex Building. God has
blessed this ministry, and we look forward to
starting another group. If you are interested in
getting involved, please contact Pastor Butler
or Pat Foster. God loves a praying church!

Prison Ministry Have you ever wanted to visit the women’s
prison near Alto? Well, now is your opportu-
nity! Our next visitation will be Friday, Sep-
tember 5th. If you would like to go, please
contact Ellen Boyd by August 20th. We leave
from the Fellowship Hall at 11:45am and re-
turn around 4:00pm. We’d love to have you!
Food 2 Kids Update Thank you, Clarkesville First UMC fam-
ily! You have given and you have inspired
others in our community to give to help feed
the school children this year! CFUMC alone
has sent in enough to sponsor 50 students-
amazing! We will know soon how many chil-
dren will be supported for the coming year and
when deliveries will begin. Jennifer Boydstun
will be coordinating drivers again, so if you’re
interested in delivering food bags to the
schools, please call the church office.
A great change for this year is also an op-
portunity to help in a different way. Rather
than our drivers going to the Food Bank’s new
location in Clayton to pick up bags, food will
be delivered to Ebenezer UMC in Hollywood.
Bag assembly will happen there on Thursdays,
and we will need crews each week to put the
food into bags, assembly-line style. If you
would like to help with packing bags, please
contact Jennifer Boydstun.
We are blessed to be a blessing, and you
certainly are! Thank you for your support for
the Food 2 Kids project!
CFUMC Preschool
Church Council has approved a new and
exciting ministry for our church, a preschool
for 2- and 3-year olds! Linda Angel and Susan
Weidner will be directing the preschool.
The preschool will offer Christian curricu-
lum, prayer, daily Bible study, academics, mu-
sic, arts and crafts in a safe, loving, Christ-
centered environment. Days of operation will
be Tuesday-Thursday, 4 hours per day. Two-
year olds may opt to come for two of the three
days. Rates are very comparable with other
facilities in the county.
Linda and Susan will be glad to accept do-
nations of gently used toys, books, and educa-
tional materials. Volunteers and substitute
teachers are also needed.
Registration information is available in the
Church Office. Enroll your child or grandchild
today! Spread the word to others you know
who would benefit from this opportunity!

Morning Joy, Missions, & Sweet Sleep
What do these three things have in common? The Morning Joy ladies are all
about global and local missions. The Sweet
Sleep Pillowcase Ministry is one of our local
mission projects. To date we have made and
given away 130 of the brightly colored pil-
lowcases to folks within our church family,
folks outside our doors, and across the coun-
try. Folks who have a physical, emotional, or
spiritual need for the promise of prayer that
the pillowcase provides. We want to give
even more away. You can help by contacting
us when you know of someone in need of
prayer.
We have various fund raisers so that we can
buy fabric and supplies for the pillowcases as
well as contribute to a variety of other mis-
sion projects. Jeanne Grant is modeling an
embroidered apron available for purchase for
just $15. It could be worn by a man or a woman working in their kitchen or
when they are volunteering at any of the many CFUMC happenings.
We also have handmade greeting cards for sale. We have Christmas cards
made from recycled cards, general use cards, and sweet gift cards.
If you know of someone in need of prayer
and a Sweet Sleep Pillowcase or are inter-
ested in checking out these fund raising
items, please contact Sandy Stryker, 706-
754-5778 or [email protected].
