Matt & Jack
The BFI cinema can be described small multiplex, with sites located in London. However, as the BFI is a charity, the cinemas are actually a non-profit organisation, and exist to support the British film industry. The Southbank cinema is located in Waterloo, with four screens.

Are shown films independent or conglomerate?
A large amount of the films being shown at the BFI Southbank Cinema are independent British films. This is because the BFI are a charity that exists to support the British film industry. Therefore, it wouldn’t make sense for a non-profit organisation to show large Hollywood conglomerate-produced films, as not only would it not be promoting British production, it would also cost the charity a lot of money.
What are the implications of our findings for institutions and film audiences?
What we found for an independent charity such as the BFI was that the impact it has on film audiences is that encourages British audiences to watch films from their own country; especially films that they may have not of heard of before. This overall encourages smaller production companies to produce a film, and help improve the UKs credibility and economy.
