1. Aesthetic appeal
Now that we know a bit about Chromadek
My top reasons for Chromadek…. ?
Variety of great colours
2. Corrosion protection
Predictable life cycle
3. Resistance to UV
6. Lightweight
Reduces load on supporting structure
(lighter weight per area vs basis
Less fading, more stable
5. Thermal efficiency
Its really cool (designed to be heat reflective)
7. Flexibility Traditional straight roof or innovative curved roofing designs

• Chromadek is specified as a minimum zinc coating of Z200 & ULTIM is Z275
• Key changes to optimise the paint system enhanced colour retention & stability
• On going paint development has led to more heat reflective Chromadek® colours
• Chromadek® has the following advantages:
- improved edge protection
- less prone to formability cracking that could lead to corrosion problems
• All Chromadek® material is branded on the back of the sheet.
• Chromadek® is the registered trade mark for the range of organic coated steels
manufactured solely by ArcelorMittal South Africa.
• By specifying Chromadek®, the purchaser can be certain that the product has been
comprehensively tested and evaluated with full technical back-up.
• Visit the Chromadek website (www.chromadek.com) for more
Things to remember about Chromadek

1. Aesthetic appeal
What goes into Chromadek
Why a paint coating?
making a surface more appealing. This includes colour, gloss and
surface structure
2. Corrosion protection A paint gives barrier properties to water and to corrosive agents
3. Resistance to UV
Even if a given colour or gloss can be achieved with almost any paint,
the aesthetic effect can only be guaranteed if the topcoat is stable (as a
function of time. Colour and gloss changes should be limited when the
paint is exposed to sunlight.
4. Mechanical properties and surface robustness
During service, some mechanical properties are needed, such as:
hardness, scratch resistance, wear resistance, abrasion resistance
What is Pre-painted Steel?
5
Prepainted steel is generally composed of:
A steel substrate protected by a surface treatment, a primer
and a topcoat.
6
What differentiates Chromadek ?
The ultimate corrosion barrier, galvanised
Zn offers the best edge protection, insist on it
Zn based steel roofing provides ultimate corrosion protection
A few paint system quick facts …
7
…the substrate? The steel substrate is hot-dip galvanized. The zinc layer gives a first
protection against corrosion in Z200 or Z275 for Chromadek and ULTIM
…the surface treatment? The surface treatment is the first step in coil coating.
This is a very thin layer of a few nanometers to ensure the adhesion of
the organic layer to the substrate enhancing the corrosion resistance.
…the primer? The role of the primer is to promote adhesion ensuring the corrosion
resistance of the top or bottom coat application, usually applied from
5μm.
8
…the topcoat? The topcoat provides the required surface characteristics, such as final
appearance (colour, gloss, texture,…), hardness, resistance to
ultraviolet and resistance to abrasion.
…the back coat? Similar to the top coat with less harsh exposure and most importantly
to guard against opportunistic corrosion derived from moisture and
condensation (in certain instances the back coat is unwashed and this
presents an opportunistic area for failure), this is where ULTIM is
superior
10
What makes Chromadek better ?
Chromadek ULTIM:
• The paint system configuration on the back coat
• Newer paint system formulation to improve fading
• Can go into a 1km coastal corrosive zone up to 400m
(closer distance to coast application, more design choices)
Next steps for ULTIM:
• Product and Promotion launch

Chromadek® paint systems enhanced
The aesthetic life is governed by the stability of the paint
system against degradation from sunlight (UV, temperature)
which is revealed by the degree of fading.
15
Chromadek® colour range
An exciting development Heat Reflective roofing solutions
Four of the colours of the Chromadek® range (See Data Sheet C1.4),
Charcoal Grey, Dark Dolphin, Buffalo Brown and Aloe Green utilize an
advanced thermal technology paint system. This advanced paint system
incorporates a heat reflective pigment providing up to 8°C cooling and
improved durability. The durability of an exterior coating is measured
according to its capability of maintaining gloss, colour and film integrity.
How Heat Reflective Chromadek® Work?
The heat reflective pigments present in Heat Reflective Chromadek®
are chemically inert and highly stable. Heat Reflective Chromadek®
reflects more of the sun’s energy to prevent the coating from absorbing
energy directly resulting in less heat build up resulting in longer life-
cycles (less fading).
It’s really cool !

Branding and marking
17
• If it doesn’t say Chromadek®, it won’t last like Chromadek
®.
• Not all colour roof sheeting is Chromadek®.
• Chromadek®, is marked on the reverse side at intervals of approximately
900mm, parallel to the length of the strip, about 25mm from the edge.
• The letters are approximately 5mm in height and of the dot-matrix type.
