Volume 8, Number 48 LOVE God and Others LEARN & Grow in Faith LIVE Your Faith by Serving
Kids First is open Monday through Friday from 6 am to 6 pm. We accept
full time children ages 2 months to 10 years. In addition, we accept state paid tuition and are inspected by the state on a regular basis.
An afternoon snack and two meals are provided for all-day children.
Please call 816-322-9603 for more information.
Please keep bringing your Best Choice bar codes to the big white
collection jar at church in the reception area. We have until 12/31 to get
the bar codes turned in. According to our coupon counter Vicki, we’re so
close and only need a couple hundred more to reach 2000 labels. That
will raise $60 plus our bonus of $30 for Backsnack. $90 total for a couple
thousand bar code labels. What could be easier? Thanks for all the
clipping and sharing to help our church and Gladden students.

Isaiah 9:1-7
“Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for
those who were in distress. In the past he hum-
bled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naph-
tali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of the
Gentiles, by the way of the sea, along the Jor-
dan-- The people walking in darkness have
seen a great light; on those living in the land of
the shadow of death a light has dawned. You
have enlarged the nation and increased their
joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice
at the harvest, as men rejoice when dividing
the plunder. For as in the day of Midian's de-
feat, you have shattered the yoke that burdens
them, the bar across their shoulders, the rod of
their oppressor. Every warrior's boot used in
battle and every garment rolled in blood will
be destined for burning, will be fuel for the fire.
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and
the government will be on his shoulders. And he
will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty
God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of his government and
peace there will be no end. He will reign on David's throne and over his kingdom,
establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and
forever. The zeal of the LORD Almighty will accomplish this."

Sermon by Pastor Sid Robbins
CrossRoads Announcements
from Lyn Polk
The gospel writers and early Christians looked to the Book of Isaiah for
inspiration and for descriptions of the Jewish Messiah. They quoted Isaiah
many times showing how Jesus fulfilled what Isaiah described.
The beginning of the Book of Isaiah described a situation where there is
conflict between the northern and southern Jewish kingdoms. This situation
was superseded by an invasion by the Assyrians who conquered and
occupied the northern kingdom of Israel. In Jesus’ day and in the decades
following there was conflict among the Jews and the Romans had
conquered and occupied all of Israel. Isaiah talked of a Messiah that would
come to deliver God’s people. In Isaiah’s descriptions, early Christians found
words to express how they believed Jesus was the Messiah and would
deliver God’s people.
In describing the coming of God’s Messiah, Isaiah mentions Zebulun,
Naphtali and Galilee. While many of the names had changed and it was
many hundreds of years later, this was the area where Jesus lived and had
his ministry. It is no wonder early followers of Jesus saw Jesus in the words of
Isaiah.

Thank you for your gifts for the 14 families we’ve adopted for Christmas this
year. We will deliver the gifts to them soon, so please have your gifts at the
church this Sunday.
We ask that you attach the tag securely to the outside of the
wrapped gift you bring so that we can determine who the gift is
for, but in a manner that will allow us to remove it for delivery.
Please have your wrapped gift back to the church and placed
under the tree by this Sunday, December 10th for delivery to the
families.
We will also give each family a gift card for groceries, purchased from our
scrip gift card program. You can turn in the $25 payment for the card along
with the tag from the tree at the scrip table and we will purchase the card
for you. Thanks for your support of our adopted families.
2018 Pledge cards are available on the info table. Please take
one, place your completed form in the envelope provided, and
drop it in the offering plate or turn it in to the office. Thanks for your
support by estimating your giving to God for next year!
Enjoy our skits each week during Advent, as well as the traditional Advent Reading and
Candle Lighting presented by a different family each week.
Crossroads will celebrate Christmas again this year with
origami poinsettias. We will provide you with the opportunity
to honor or memorialize loved ones in our Christmas Eve
Bulletin by giving $12 per flower to decorate our worship
area. The money you donate will be used to fund 2018 -
2019 BackSnacks for our Gladden Elementary kids.
Please place your order online here: Origami Poinsettias and either submit
your $12 per flower payment to the church online here (under BackSnack)
or drop your check in the offering plate & indicate ‘Christmas Poinsettias” on
your payment. There are also order forms available on the info table and in
your bulletin. You may take your poinsettia home with you after the
Christmas Eve service. Thank you for your support.
Our Christmas Eve service is at 9:00 pm
on Sunday, December 24th. Please join
us and invite your neighbors to this fun
and upbeat service in the style of an old
time radio show, with lots of singing and
some seasonal skits, ending with our
traditional candlelight singing
of “Silent Night”.
As we celebrate the birth of the baby
Jesus, may the Joy and Peace of
Christmas be with you now and
throughout the new year!
