China

Some say China is one of the oldest civilizations in the world. In fact, many of today’s modern wonders sprang from this ancient place. Calligraphy, oriental music and The Great Wall of China are just a few of these.

To begin with, a lot of today’s music comes from China. If you’ve ever heard the pentatonic scale, then you’ve heard Chinese music in action. This scale actually originated in China. The flute, lute, gong, and cymbals also came from China.

Calligraphy is also a purely Chinese invention. It is an art of writing with brush and ink that they came up with, where each combination of brush strokes stands for a word.

Finally, The Great Wall of China is probably the best known monument of this age-old country. It started being built around 500 BC to keep out invaders and now stretches over 3,300 miles along China’s border.

Learning about China is exciting! One of the best things is you can see its impact everywhere. Whether you’re listening to music, learning about writing or traversing the great wall, China has changed the face of the earth.
