Violent Games = Violent Children?

General consensus among scholars (over 130 studies) that violent video games:

Increase aggressive thoughts, angry feelings, physiological arousal (e.g., heart rate, blood pressure), and aggressive behavior

Decrease feelings of empathy for others

Can be directly linked to poor school performance, hostility and arguments with teachers

Violent games directly reward violent behavior

Frequent playing can lead to gaming addiction

Why Should We Care

1. Children's personal information is at risk

2. Children under 13 don't have the mental

maturity to make smart decisions online

3. Lying online spills into lying in real life

4. Children under 13 are less likely to tell a

grownup (or even understand) that they are

bullied online
