FROM THE PRESIDENT I hope this greeting finds everyone in good health and spirit. Well, so far this summer the club has had a great car show, popular cruise night and our ice cream social. As we look forward, Fun Day will be held on Sunday, September 24th. Tickets will be available up until September 17th. You will be able to purchase tickets in person at our General Membership Meeting on August 22nd and then after that date you may purchase or reserve tickets with cash or a check in my hands by September 17th. Hopeann and I will be on vacation during the week of September 18th and I must call the caterer early during that same week. So, the absolute deadline date for tickets to Fun Day is September 17th. I hope that each and every one of you is enjoying this summer weather and I will be looking forward to seeing you at our next meeting and at Fun Day as well! Russ Swallow - President

COVER CAR – 2001 CORVETTE My need for speed arrived in the form of a new 2001 Corvette, maroon colored, six-speed manual transmission, in the fall of 2000. Chevy, claiming the Vette could reach a top speed of 175 mph, was an inspiration - so I rented time on the Pocono Raceway. After a few practice laps, the Pocono Raceway instructor gave me the thumbs up! I must admit the concept of braking before the turn and accelerating in the turn was a bit troublesome, but didn’t slow me down as I hit 140 mph in 4th gear. Adrenalin pumping, plenty of peddle left and two more gears, I could not let myself slow down (as my instructor was yelling!) until the last second before the turn! Well….. suffice to say, I left the Pocono Raceway several hundred dollars poorer and frustrated I did not top 140 mph. Fast forward … my wife and are driving the Vette to Arizona. On the lonely, flat, straight, great visibility Kansas Turnpike, inspiration struck again. I knew this was a once in a lifetime opportunity for the Vette to stretch her legs. My wife, from the Midwest, reminded me the State Patrol likes to hide in the tall, prairie grasses. I said, “No way, we haven’t seen a car in hours.” I hit the peddle. 1st gear, 2nd gear, 3rd gear, 4th gear, hitting 140 mph and still accelerating (along with my pulse!) and two more gears to go! I am flying! Finally, I am on my way to 175 mph! …Wait! What? Sirens and flashing lights in the rear distance? Nooooooo. The State Patrol does hide in the tall prairie grasses! Ooohh,… I pull over. Explaining to the Officer why I am going 140 plus mph on the KS Turnpike, I told him of my desire to test the Vette to her capacity, my story of the Pocono Raceway, and that I am quite the ordinary safe driver. The Officer, after a quick check, acknowledges I have a clean driving record, and appreciates I actually told him the truth. He does not appreciate the 140mph! However, the Officer does tell me instead of confiscating my car and throwing me in jail (and leaving my wife stranded in Kansas!) he will issue the ticket at 120 mph, I can mail in the $562.00 (ouch!) fine, and my wife and I can continue our vacation ….. together! As my sweaty hand accepts the ticket, I realize the Red Rocket (as I affectionally call my beloved Vette) and I will likely never experience 175 mph, and… I also will not know the inside of a Kansas jail cell! My wife Kat and I are looking forward to meeting and knowing our new friends at CCACC.

Bob & Kat Iezzi

ANNUAL ICE CREAM NIGHT

Tuesday, July 25th – ICE CREAM NIGHT – What can we say? As always a great turnout, about 60 members. It is hard to beat Lapp’s ice cream, and we enjoyed vanilla, chocolate & black raspberry with all the toppings. Joyce made her famous wet walnuts and they were delicious and gone. A big thank you to our scoopers, Dave Crossman, Paul GeBauer, & Jim Fleetwood filling those bowls and coming on down the line for chocolate or butterscotch syrup, wet walnuts, strawberries, sprinkles, whip cream & a cherry on top. Also enjoyed Pepperidge gold fish and Milano cookies and pretzels. Nobody went home hungry. A special thank you to everyone that stepped up after the meeting and helped with the clean up. Very much appreciated. Jack, Joyce, Bob & Natalie

HUMOR FROM OUR PRESIDENT What did one eye say to the other? Between you and me, something smells around here. Employer: We need someone who’s highly responsible Applicant: In that case, I’m your man. At my last job, every time something went wrong, they told me I was responsible. MARK; The clock factory fired me today. CLARK: I told you not to put in so many extra hours.

SHOW WINNERS

I just returned from my Mustang Club of America National Show in Dawsonville, Georgia (Home of Bill Elliott, NASCAR.) It was held at a race track and approx. 300 cars. I purchased my 73 Mustang and started attending the shows in 1976. MCA is located in Georgia and for years all the National shows were in the South. There are 4 shows a year and they can be all over the U.S. For years I was in the unrestored class and took all the top awards, and now I am in the Conservatory class where I receive a trophy at all shows and I received my final point needed to receive my grill medallion next year. It has been a long haul but well worth it as I have made so many friends over the years and always had a good time. Natalie Gomez

Dave Shingle finished our annual car show the end of May and did not slow down. He was off to GM”S at Carlisle with his 63 Chevy Nova and brought home the Standard of Excellence Award. The highlight of his summer, the end of July he attended by invitation only, The 39th Annual Concours of d’Elegance of America held at The Inn At St. Johns in Plymouth, Mi. with his 1963 Chevy Nova. He was in the Jet Age Jr. Class with 11 other vehicles. The older cars at this show were beautiful and Best Of Show was a 1931 Stutz Conv. Victoria. This was an honor to be invited to this show.
