Brethren, April has been dedicated youth month by Most Worshipful William Hershey. As such, he asked we celebrate a youth organization during April. How much do you know about these organizations? Here is some information I hope you find useful. Jobs Daughters Job's Daughters was founded in 1920 by Mrs. Ethel T. Wead Mick in honor and memory of her mother. She gained the consent of Most Worshipful J. B. Fraden- burg, of the Grand Lodge of Nebraska and Mrs. Anna J. Davis, the Grand Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star of Nebraska. Their motto was to be and still is "Virtue is a quality which highly adorns woman". Jobies are praised for their memory work and delivery. "Mother Mick" was fond of the Book of Job, and took the name of the organization as a reference to Jobs three daughters. The Book of Job, 42nd chapter, 15th verse says, "In all the land were no women found so fair as the Daughters of Job, and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren". Members are located in the United States, Canada, Australia, the Philippines, and Brazil. . Jobs Daughters perform service projects to help their community and the less fortunate. They actively support the Hearing Im- paired Kids Endowment (HIKE) Fund, which purchases hearing assistive devices for hearing impaired chil- dren. A masonic heritage is required to join. Rainbow Girls The Rainbow Girls came into existence on April 6, 1922, when the Reverend Worshipful Mark Sexson, was asked to make an address before the Order of the Eastern Star, in McAlester, Oklahoma. He had worked with the Order of the DeMolay, and he had suggested at that meeting that a similar order for young women be construct- ed. The first Initiation consisted of a class of 171 young women in the auditorium of the Scottish Rite Temple. The original name was "Order of the Rainbow for Girls". The organization teaches leadership training through community service. Young women (ages 1120/21) learn about the value of charity and service through their work with service projects. Pride is gained from volun- teering for a community clean-up project, playing checkers with a senior citizen, or the accomplishment of rais- ing funds to support another charitable organization. Some charities have included Scottish Rite Hospitals, Make- A-Wish Foundation, and the American Cancer Society. On the local Assembly level, members plan and organize service projects on an ongoing basis. A Masonic heritage is not required. DeMolay The Order of DeMolay, an international fraternal organization for young men ages 12 to 21was founded by Frank S. Land. Frank received a phone call one day to assist a young man named Louis Lower, the son of a re- cently deceased Mason. Frank was extremely impressed with Louis, and so was his wife. As their relationship became stronger, Louis was asked to bring his friends by to form a club. As Frank was Commander for the De- Molay Council of Kadosh, they decided the ideals of Jacques DeMolay to be the basis for their club. On March 24, 1919, the DeMoly was formed at the Scottish Rite Temple in Kansas City, Missouri. Often March 18 is stated as the founding date because Jacques DeMolay died on that date. DeMolay is open for membership to young men of good character who acknowledge a higher spiritual power. It has about 15,000 active members in the United States and Canada. There are active chapters in Australia, Ar- gentina Aruba, Philippines, Bolivia, Italy, Peru, Romania, France Albania, Japan, Montenegro, and Serbia. The crown appearing in the self-adopted heraldic arms (the emblem) of the order contains 10 rubies, each representing one of the original nine members and the organization's founder, Frank S. Land . The rubies were originally portrayed as pearls; as each founding member died, the pearl representing him was changed to a ruby. The DeMolay is celebrating their 100 th anniversary this April 1. A Masonic heritage is not required. Secretary’s Corner Brethren, Thank you to Bro. Jonathan Heisey-Grove for stepping up and agreeing to be the secretary in my absence and for being the assistant secretary. This is an important job and I am glad it is in his capable hands. We read the proposed member suspensions on March 21. These broth-ers’ names and addresses will be sent to the Grand Master so he can make a personal appeal for them to pay dues, prior to suspension. If you are on the suspension list (that happens when you owe for more than two years), please get current now to avoid suspension. Suspensions will be complete in September, so there is still some time. We recently had a case of a brother—an LMIP from our lodge—who got suspended in another lodge for non-payment of dues, which we have since learned was due to a serious medical condition. We are working on reinstating him and getting everything cleared up. He will be okay Ma-sonically before too long but it is a good reminder that if you are sus-pended in one lodge, you lose your membership in each lodge you belong to. If you want to resume your membership, you have to pay your back dues and then appeal to each lodge individually to take you back. If you ever have a financial issue that keeps you from paying dues, contact me or the Worshipful Master. We don’t want to lose a member over not being able to pay dues. Thanks, Carl Weaver Secretary
