PRINCIPAL’S REPORT…. On Monday, 12 November we held a Remembrance Assembly. This year was a very significant year as it marked the end of our 4 years of remembrance of the 1914-1918 Great War. Miss Parkes arranged for the 100 year poppy installation the school used in 2014 to be placed front and centre in the ceremony. Student involvement was a key factor once again. Thank you Miss Parkes for all that you do to build an understanding, a respect and a validation of effort in our students. Unfortunately I missed this event and also the final School Disco for the year which was held last Friday. By all accounts the disco was “awesome” and students were very well behaved. Thank you P&C for your seamless organisation. It is much appreciated! Prior to the next edition of Chatterbox, (Term 4, Week 8), we have two very important events on our school calendar. The first is The School Spectacular (preview and evening performance on Friday, 23 November and a matinee and evening performance on Saturday, 24 November). The K-2 and 3-6 dance groups, supported by Mrs Skinner and Mrs Sherring, have been attending many rehearsals with another two scheduled on Wednesday and Thursday this week. Thank you Ms Skinner and Mrs Sherring for your dedication and commitment to ensuring that our students have rich experiences in primary school. Thank you also to Miss Archibald and Mr Martin for driving the dance groups to rehearsals and to Mrs Robinson for keeping on top of the ever changing schedule. Secondly, our annual Presentation Day is to be held on the Wednesday of Week 8 (5 December). Another dedicated team of staff members are working hard to bring this significant event to our school community. School certainly does not slow down as the end of the year approaches! We have held 2 of our Kindergarten 2019 Orientation sessions with the final to be held next Tuesday, 27 November. Mrs Russell and the “Kinder team” have also worked hard to provide rich transition experiences for the pre-schoolers and have been ably supported by a range of support staff and practicum students. Parent involvement has also been a critical factor. Thank you to Mrs Wedgwood and Mrs Wise for your ongoing support. And, to end this report, Kallie Thompson (Year 6) is a true champion! She has excelled in the Ultimo Operational Directorate Primary Schools Public Speaking Competition Grand Final, having won the Stage 3 Bankstown Network Final. Kallie’s self-confidence has really grown this year and we are all tremendously proud of her. Well done Kallie! FORWARD PLANNING In the Week 8 edition of Chatterbox we will be outlining the major expenditure, on a term by term basis, that parents have been asked to commit to this year. This will give you an indication of what to expect in 2019 and an opportunity to plan for the following school year. The Stage 3 (Years 5 and 6) “Dance Sport” activity will be a 10 week program in 2019 (held in Term 3) and K-6 gymnastics is scheduled for Term 2. We hope this information will assist you. With my best wishes, Sandra Palmer. Congratulations to Matt Cooper 5/6P who was elected Vice Captain for the NSW State Softball Under 13’s Team. Congratulations to Crystal Woods, Lincoln Parmeter and Mrs Rowland (Coach) for receiving a GOLD at the School Sports Australia Softball Championship held in Canberra last week. Both the NSW Boys and Girls teams were undefeated at the championship. WRITING AWARDS Congratulations to Ahmed Elhelou KD, for trying hard to sound out new words. Fantastic work! UNIFORM SHOP For your convenience, uniform orders may now be sent to the Uniform Shops email address: [email protected] Orders will be processed and sent to your child’s classroom once payment has been made. The Lost Property baskets will be sorted and labelled items will be returned on Friday, November 30 for the last time in 2018. All other items will be donated to the Uniform Shop to be sold as pre-loved clothing. If your child is missing a uniform item, please check the baskets before this date. Uniform Committee.

KNITTING CLUB Two students in Year 4 (Ruby Wise & Abbie Fenwick 4H, on behalf of others) approached Mrs Palmer about starting a “Finger Knitting Club” which she thought was a great idea. They had a well thought out proposition relating to where the club would be held and what the outcome was to be. Once approved they designed and laminated posters to display in the school and then spoke at Morning Assembly. This is truly “student voice” in action. Watch this space to see what the outcome (final product) for this club will be.

Beginners…modelled instruction! Guided instruction

Success…independence!

PUBLIC SPEAKING On Wednesday, 14 November Mrs Sherring and Ms Skinner had the pleasure of accompanying Kallie Thompson (5/6P) to the Grand Final of the Ultimo Operational Directorate Primary Schools Public Speaking Competition, held at St Peters Public School. Nearly 250 schools participated in the competition this year moving through school and network competitions to participate in the finals on Wednesday. Kallie spoke with confidence, poise and determination as she congratulated the other 17 speakers who she was up against on the day. The topic for her chosen speech was “Can Money Buy Happiness”. Kallie received some wonderful feedback from the adjudicators who both complimented her on the way her speech was delivered and that her natural presence when speaking was a delight. Thank you to Imogen, Bailey, Lily and Rachel who supported Kallie on the day. The respect and friendship these students have for one another is invaluable. Kallie is a wonderful role model to others and Panania PS could not be any prouder of her, as a person, and her achievements. Well done! Ms Skinner and Mrs Sherring, Public Speaking Coordinators.

FOUND A pair of children’s black rimmed glasses with grey arms and “Minions Mishap” printed on the side, have been handed in to the School Office. If these glasses belong to your child, please contact the office to arrange collection.
