Lawrence, carved or burnt with the initials T.E.L See illustration Note: Purchased
by the vendor from a man whose father found the knife in undergrowth at Clouds
Hill, Bovington in the early 1950's. The finder apparently kept quiet about it
thinking that it might have been claimed by Clouds Hill (National Trust). He
showed it to Pat Knowles (the caretaker of Clouds Hill) who said it was not on the
original Clouds Hill inventory and therefore may have been lost prior to
Lawrence's death. Knowles said he believed it could well have belonged to
Lawrence who often carved or burnt his initials in tools and personal effects.

Imperial War Museum, loaned for the Lawrence Exhibition & illustrated in the
National Portrait Gallery Exhibition Catalogue, 1988, p.75
