Latino Population

• During the 1960s, the Latino population in the US grew from 3 million to more than 9 million.

• Mexican-Americans are the largest pop. of Latinos.

• Nearly 100,000 Mexicans from territories ceded by Mexico in 1848.

• Over a million Mexicans came after 1910, following Mexico’s revolution.

• Braceros, or temporary laborers, during the 1940s and 1950s.

• Close to half a million Mexicans immigrated, most in search of better paying jobs during the 1960s.

Today, the UFW has over 10 thousand members and continues to fight for social justice in the fields.
