Captain Lazar’s Message
Captain David Lazar
Commanding Officer Central Station
Thank you Chief Suhr!
On behalf of all of the officers assigned to CentralStation, I would like to thank Chief Suhr for hisleadership and for his 34 years of service in theDepartment. I first met Chief Suhr when he was aSergeant and came to my academy class 24 yearsago to make a presentation regarding narcotics. At thetime, he was assigned to the Narcotics Detail. A coupleof years later, Chief Suhr was a newly promotedLieutenant and I was fortunate to work for him for twoyears as an officer assigned to Mission Station. Yearslater, when I was a Lieutenant in 2004, he asked me towork for him in the Operations Bureau. He was then theDeputy Chief of Operations and asked me to developthe Operation Outreach Program as the Department’sliaison with the City on all homeless issues. To this day,we still have officers assigned to address homelessnessand outreach. When Chief Suhr was made Chief in2011, I was assigned to the Urban Area SecurityInitiative handling Homeland Security Grant Fundingand planning for America’s Cup. Later, I wastransferred to the Police Academy and then to thisincredible assignment at Central Station.
I am personally grateful for his mentorship over all theyears and I wish him the very best in retirement. Pleasesee the attached website link congratulating him on allhis years of service to the City and County of SanFrancisco.
We look forward to working with Chief Chaplin who Ihave known most of my career. He has beenoutstanding in all of his assignments. Chief Chaplincomes to the job with a lot of credibility from theofficers and the community. As an organization, we willcontinue to move forward!
