Bugs Eye View

Overview: Creating a unique view of a space from a BUG’s viewEstimated Time: 20 - 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, crayon/color pencil/marker/watercolor or paint, OR iPad app (if available!)Activity Explanation: This activity will help you stretch your imagination to create a view of something as if you were a bug looking up/out/all overIdea Examples: Don’t limit your ideas to the example…expand your vision and creativity…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!Start with a blank paper, brainstorm ideas of where a bug could/would be, think about how BIG everything would look, since you would be SO tiny! (this is the opposite of our Value Scale Bug lesson from earlier this year!)

Draw your design lightly in pencil, ten add color to enhance the design!

Design a New Dollar

Overview: Creating a NEW Dollar Bill design – using lines, shapes, patternsEstimated Time: 20 - 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, crayon/color pencil/marker/watercolor or paint, OR iPad app (if available!)Activity Explanation: This activity will have you creatively design a new dollar bill.Idea Examples: Don’t limit your ideas to the example…expand your vision and creativity…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!Start with a blank paper, using a ruler or straight edge – draw a small rectangle (maybe even CAREFULLY trace a dollar!)Look at some bills ($1, $5, $10 etc.) What do they have in common? What is different? Lightly draw out your NEW design – check out my ART $1 bill below! I made my new bill purple because it’s my FAVORITE color!!! Outline in a dark color & add color if you have time!

Warm & Cool Seascape

Overview: Creating a unique Seascape with the contrasting color groups: WARM & COOLEstimated Time: 20 - 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, crayon/color pencil/marker/watercolor or paint, OR iPad app (if available!)Activity Explanation: This activity will help you review the color groups from earlier this year in art and explore the use of line in art.Idea Examples: Don’t limit your ideas to the example…expand your vision and creativity…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!Start with a blank paper, lightly sketch a SEASCAPE design – Ocean, Waves, Island, Palm Trees, Sky: sun, sunset, sunrise, cloudsOutline the sketch in a dark color crayon, color pencil, marker/sharpieADD color to the sky in WARM colors and the ocean in the COOL colors – notice how the contrast each other

Architecture Design

Overview: Creating a unique Architecture Design – House, School, Stadium, Museum, Mall, Airport, Etc.Estimated Time: 20 - 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, crayon/color pencil/marker OR iPad app (if available!)Activity Explanation: This activity will have you become a mini-architect – design the building of your dreamsIdea Examples: Don’t limit your ideas to the example…expand your vision and creativity…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!Start with a blank paper, lightly sketch the front/side/back view of your dream building. (THINK about doors, windows, roof, siding/brick/stone, archways, columns (LIKE Greek Columns!), steps, porch/deck, etc.) Be sure to fill the page, think about landscaping & background details to!Outline your sketch in a dark color crayon/color pencil/marker, add color with your choice of media (crayon, color pencil, marker, etc.)

Observational Drawing: Draw what you SEE!

Overview: Stay Inside or Go Outside and Draw what you seeEstimated Time: 20-25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil and a solid surface to draw upon (book or clipboard)Activity Explanation: This activity will help you become a good observer of the world around you.Idea Examples: Don’t limit yourself to the list…expand your vision and just draw…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!

Go outside and draw a tree with all the wonderful textures

Go outside and look up at the clouds rolling by and sketch out what you see in the formations (Look closely as the clouds change and move-what else do you see?)

Go outside and draw your front or your back yard…yes…this is a Landscape!

Not outdoor weather…stay inside and draw your pet (if you have one) while it is sitting still or sleeping

No pet…how about sketch a picture of your sibling or parent

Need something that sits still…set up objects in your room (toys, shoes, cups, even a crumpled pair of socks will make a great subject for observing…etc) - this is a Still Life (because it sits still)

Have a good time Observing your World!

Warm & Cool Color Animals

Overview: Creating an artwork with your favorite animal & the contrasting color groups: WARM & COOLEstimated Time: 20 - 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, crayon/color pencil/marker/watercolor or paintActivity Explanation: This activity will help you review the color groups from earlier this year in art.Idea Examples: Don’t limit your ideas to the example…expand your vision and creativity…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!Start with a blank paper, lightly sketch your favorite animal/insect, (IF you need a photograph – look in a book, or (with adult approval) look on the computer/I-Pad) Trace the animal/insect in a dark color crayon, color pencil, marker – Don’t forget to add a background design!

Add WARM color group inside OR outside (background) add COOL color group to the opposite space

Nighttime Cityscape

Overview: Creating a unique nighttime sky/moon with one color & a cool cityscape in silhouette in the front-groundEstimated Time: 20 - 25 minutes or more if you likeMaterials Needed: Paper, pencil, crayon/color pencil, watercolor or paintActivity Explanation: This activity will help you practice Value/Monochromatic Scale shading Idea Examples: Don’t limit yourself to anything on the list below…expand your vision and creativity…it is the process that helps you become a better artist and above all ENJOY!Use a tall/long blank paper to begin your design, trace a small circle for a moon anywhere near the top of the page. Add a cool cityscape line across the bottom of the page – look in books for ideas or with (adult approval) on-line, Choose a color, start around the moon as light as possible, continue getting darker and darker as you get

further away from the moon, till the entire page above the City skyline is colored. Add BLACK on the cityscape to create a silhouette effect. (add windows or openings in the buildings for a unique addition!)
