Accountability buildstrust.Whenindividualsareaccountabletheteamsandorganizationstheysupporthavetheconfidencethattheycandependoneachother.Leaderswhoareaccountablearemorelikelytobetrustedandrespected,becausepeopleknowthattheywillkeeptheirword.

Personalaccountabilitycansavetimeandmoney,too.Peoplewhotakeresponsibilityfortheiractionsspeakup,andtheylookforsolutionswhenthere'saproblem.Thisnotonlypreventsthesituationfromgettingworse,butitstopscostsanddelaysfromescalating.

Lastly,personalaccountabilitycanboostyourchancesofpromotion.Whenyoushowseniorcolleaguesthatyou’redependable,youmarkyourselfoutassomeonewithleadershippotential.

BeHonestSuccessinlifeonlycomeswhenyou’recompletelyhonestwithyourself,andwithothers.Thismeanssettingasideyourpride,andadmittingwhenyou’vemadeamistake.So,tuneintoyour"gutfeelings"whenthingsaredifficult,andlearnto askforhelp ifyou’restruggling,sothatyoudon’tletothersdown.

Tip: Don’tuseyour“Honesty”toblameothers,ortomakeexcuses.Instead,focusonyourownroleinasituation,andthinkabouthowyoucanresolvetheproblem

TimeManagementAlwayspracticegoodtimemanagement,sothatyoumaketimeforwhat’simportant.UsetoolsandtechniqueswediscussedintheTimeManagementsessiontomanageyourtimemoreefficiently.

Apologize (Everyonemakesmistakes)Accountabilitydoesn’tstopwithhonesty.Ifsomethinghasgonewrongandyouwereresponsible,thenyouneedto “makeamends”.Fewpeopleknowhowtomakeamendsforamistake.Ifyoudon'tmakeamendsforwrongactions,yourrelationships,alongwithyourreputation,maybeseriouslydamaged.

Makingamendsallowseveryoneinvolvedtomoveon,andhelpsthemfocusontheendgoal,ratherthantheproblem.

UseTimeWiselyProcrastinationisacommonwaytoavoidresponsibility,asitdelaysdealingwithaproblem,meaningthatsomeoneelsemaysolveitinstead.Yourcolleaguesmayfeelthattheycan’trelyonyou,andthiswillaffectyourprofessionalreputation.Youcan overcomeprocrastinationbyfirst,identifyingandunderstandingwhyyoudoit.

Isthetaskuninterestingornotmeaningfultoyou?Doyoulackinformationorresources?Oristheresomeothercause?Onceyouunderstandwhyyouputthingsoff,youcantakestepstofixtheproblem.

Intime,you’llbuildnewskillsandbetterwaystodealwithdifficultsituations.Remember:Whenyou’repersonallyaccountable,youtakeownershipofwhathappensasaresultofyourchoicesandactions.Youdon’tblameothersormakeexcuses,andyoudowhatyoucantomakeamendswhenthingsgowrong.

Tobecomemoreaccountable,makesurethatyou'reclearaboutyourrolesandresponsibilities.Behonestwithyourselfandothers,soyoucanadmitwhenyou’rewrong,apologize,andmoveon.

Makethemostofyourtime,andmanageitcarefullysothatyoudon'ttakeontoomuch.

Lastly,thinkcarefullyaboutsituationswhereyoudidn’ttakeresponsibilitybutshouldhave.Thesemistakesandfailurescanbevaluableteachingtools,ifyouhavethecouragetolearnfromthem.
