Scout Rob Nelsen, 16, ofIrvine, Calif., was honoredrecently with a resolutionhonoring him for “Extraor-dinary Achievements inScouting,” by the OrangeCounty (California) Board ofSupervisors.

Nelsen is the grandson ofDarlene Eggena of Rockford,Iowa, and the nephew ofHarm Eggena, board mem-ber of the Rudd-Rockford-Marble Rock CommunitySchool District, Rockford,Iowa.

Nelsen, who lives inIrvine, Calif., with his family,is the son of Marylou Egge-na, who grew up and attend-ed local Rockford schoolsbefore graduating fromNorth Iowa Area Communi-ty College, and earning herbachelor’s and master’sdegrees at Iowa State Uni-versity. Eggena has taughtschool in Santa Ana, Calif.,for 15 years.

Nelsen was congratulatedby the Orange County (Cali-fornia) Board of Supervisorsfor becoming the first BoyScout to earn 130 meritbadges ever in Orange Coun-ty and the state of California.Less than 10 Boy Scouts haveearned 130 merit badges inthe 100-year history ofScouting in the UnitedStates.

The Supervisors resolu-tion further recognizedNelsen’s “academic successand his involvement in ath-letics” at Tustin HighSchool, including a 4.29

grade point average, duringhis freshman year, TopScholar Award of Excellence,CSF, Principal’s Honor Roll,individual award winner atOC Academic Decathlon,United States AchievementAcademy nomination,Model United Nation’sawards, Scholar Athlete andoffensive player of year forthe junior varsity basketballteam, and Empire League AllAcademic Team as a memberof the freshman baseballteam.

The resolution also citedNelsen for being the fresh-man class president andsophomore class-elect pres-ident at Tustin High School.
