Gene was employed by John Deere in Waterloo for 30 years,
retiring in 1993. Jan was a homemaker for many years and retired in 1985 after three years of employment with the Water-loo Community Schools as a bus driver.

Hans and Laurie both attended Dunkerton High School, where they were high school sweet-hearts in the class of 1985. Laurie has worked at GMAC Mortgage as an administrative site coordi-nator for the past 25 years where she has enjoyed taking the ini-tiative with planning events and received many honors. Hans has worked with telecommunications his entire career and received the general manager position at Mechanicsville Telephone Co. in the fall of 2010.
Recently, the Arwine family has made a big transition of selling their home of more than 15 years in Dunkerton and moving to the small town of Lisbon. Here they
will be closer to Mechanicsville and most importantly closer to their fi rst grandbaby, Axel Knight Arwine, due to be born July 1. They have three children, Bran-don, 24, Brittany, 22, and Bailey, 11. Brandon is a telecommuni-cations graduate working for Mechanicsville Telephone Co. and his wife, Alison, is a radiog-rapher in Cedar Rapids. They reside in Cedar Rapids and have their fi rst son, Axel, on the way. Brittany Arwine lives in Cedar Falls and is a dental hygienist in the Cedar Valley for Brenden and Brenden Dentistry and Dr. Joel Walsworth Dentistry in Waverly. Bailey Arwine will be a sixth-grader at Lisbon Elementary next fall.

Beierschmitt will celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary with a Matrons and Best Men “Surf and Turf” dinner at their home on July 9 to host their matrons of honor, Betty and husband Craig Walker and Barbara and hus-band Chris Nagel, and their best men, Dirk and wife Suzann Con-ner and Ronnie and wife Sandie Graf.
They will also celebrate with a family dinner/open house July 23 at their home. Invitations will be sent.
They are planning a trip and cruise at a later date, as well.
Greg Beierschmitt, son of Leo and Barbara Beierschmitt, and Lori Marrah, daughter of Wil-liam and Delphine Marrah, were married at 1 p.m. July 5, 1986, at Sacred Heart Church in Oelwein.
Mr. Beierschmitt is a self-employed farmer and volun-teer Fairbank fireman. Mrs. Beierschmitt retired as a self-employed Realtor and broker/owner of Advanced Realtors.
Hosting the event will be Greg and Lori, along with their chil-dren, Ashley Beierschmitt, Allys-sa Beierschmitt and Chanceler Beierschmitt, all of Fairbank.

After marrying, Shirley and Bill started their family. Their fi ve children are Terry of Madison, Wis., Jeff of Kailua, Hawaii, Scott of Beaver Dam, Wis., Becky
Cooper of Des Moines and Cindy Lang of Cedar Falls. There are 12 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter. Bill passed away in 2002, one week before their 50th wedding anniversary.

Naval offi cer Jon Thorson, a member of Cedar Falls High School’s 1986 graduating class, was recently promoted to the rank of lieutenant.
Jon, a native of Cedar Falls, serves as an information dominance warfare offi cer in the Navy’s special operations community. Throughout his 20-year military career, he’s completed 21 deployments, including deployments in support of Operations Desert Shield and Storm, and Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom.
Thorson began his military career as an infantryman in the Iowa Army National Guard and then transferred into the Navy in 1988. Before receiving an offi cer commission in 2007, he served in the Navy’s enlisted ranks and reached the rank of chief as a special warfare combatant-craft crewman (SWCC), and an
Arab and Spanish linguist. Thorson received an associates of arts degree at North Iowa Community College in 1988, a bachelor of arts degree at the University of Northern Iowa in 1995, and a master of science of strategic intelligence degree at the National Defense Intelligence College, Washington, D.C., in 2006.
