1. SUMMARY OF NATIONAL UNITY DAY CELEBRATIONS AT MNIT JAIPUR
On 31 Oct. 2014, the Birth Anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was celebrated at Malaviya
National Institute of Technology Jaipur as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas or Quami Ekta Divas or
National Unity Day. Several educational and interactive programs were organized for students
by the Creative Arts and Cultural Society, MNIT.
In the ‘Run for Unity’ organized in the morning, students enthusiastically participated in a
marathon, taking a circular route from the Institute to Jawahar Circle and return. Faculty,
students and staff members of the Institute took the pledge for upholding the unity, integrity and
security of the nation. The pledge was administered by Prof. Rohit Goyal, Dean, Planning and
Development. Volunteer students of the National Service Scheme, participated in cleanliness
drive of the campus and took an oath to maintain the safety and security of our country.
A photography exhibition focusing on the life and pictures of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was
organized in the Department of Architecture in which around 150 photographs were displayed. A
large number of students visited the exhibition. Books on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel’s life and
achievements were displayed for students in the Central Library of the Institute.
Several events including a debate competition and a panel discussion on National Unity,
Safety and Security were organized on this day. Speakers in the discussion included Prof.
Ramesh Arora (Visiting Prof. HRM RIPA), Dr Vibhuti Singh Shekhawat (Head, Deptt. of
Humanities & Social Sciences, MNIT), Prof. Bhawani Singh and Prof. Shashi Sahai (University
of Rajasthan). The panelists emphasized on the need to remain united to combat threats to the
nation’s security from outside.
Photography and videography of all these events organized in MNIT on National Education Day
was done, and press and media was invited for coverage in the print and electronic media. Press
reporters and photographers attended the events and took photographs and video clippings of the
events for media coverage. Dr. Preeti Bhatt and Dr. Satish Kumar played a vital role in the
publicity and recording of all the events.

News of these events was published on Nov. 1, 2014 in newspapers like Rajasthan Patrika,
Dainik Bhaskar, Daily News, Dainik Navajyoti, National Duniya, Punjab Kesari and Sanjeevni
Today, and others.
A documentary film on the life and times of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was also shown to the
students as part of the celebration.

2. Run for Unity
The Run for Unity was organized by Creative Arts and Cultural Society of MNIT Jaipur to
celebrate Birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on October 31, 2014, as "Rashtriya Ekta
Diwas".
The Run for Unity was flagged from Administration Block of MNIT Jaipur to Jawahar Circle
and back to Administration Block of MNIT Jaipur on October 31, 2014 sharply at 7 A.M.
Nearly 60 students had taken the part in running to celebrate and propagate the message of
national integrity. The students carried the message "Our culture and legacy is of unity in
diversity" and tried to transfer this message of unity to the nation by continuous running for 35
minutes. After the run, the students were provided the refreshments. The faculty convener for the
event was Dr. Sushant Upadhyaya. Some memorable glimpse (a-d) of this success of our

3. Pledge Ceremony
The pledge was administered by Prof. Rohit Goyal, Dean, Planning and Development at 08.00
am near the administrative block. Large number of faculty members, staff and students
participated in the pledge ceremony and took pledge for the integrity and unity of the country.

4. Panel discussion on National unity, safety and Security
A panel discussion on the above topic was organized from 2.00-3.00 p.m. in the Seminar Hall,
Mechanical Engineering Department, MNIT Jaipur. The participants included Prof. Ramesh
Arora, Prof. Bhavani Singh, Retired, former Head, Department of Political Science, Rajasthan
University, and Prof. Shashi Sahai, Head, Department of Political Science, Rajasthan University.
The lively discussion focused on the role of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel in the freedom movement
and his significant contribution to India’s concept of nationhood. The discussion was attended by
more than eighty students and faculty members of the institute and was followed by a highly
interesting question-answer session. The faculty convener of the above event was Dr. (Mrs.)
Nupur Tandon.

5. Pictorial Exhibition on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

One day photo-exhibition was organised by the students of the PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB, MNIT,
Jaipur on 31st October 2014, i.e. on NATIONAL UNITY DAY in honor of "Sardar Vallabhbhai
Patel" under the guidance of Ar. Pooja Nigam, Assistant Professor, Department of Architecture
and Planning, MNIT-Jaipur.
The event exhibited 55 pictures and 15 quotes portraying the life of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and
was the eye-opener for the students as well as the visitors.
With an endeavor to promote unity among the youth of the nation, this exhibition was one of its
kind.
A team of around 20 students from different streams volunteered and participated with
enthusiasm and made it a success. All the volunteers were presented with certificates in the
felicitation function the same day.
Seeing a great response from visitors, the exhibition was extended for 3 more days.

6. Activities by NSS team on National Unity, Safety and Security
The NSS team organized one day camp on “Rashtriya Ekta Diwas”. The camp was focused on
“Shramdaan for the sanitation”. Over 120 students participated in the event. A lecture was also
delivered focusing on the aims and objective on National Service Scheme (NSS). The large
number of participation ensured that event was a success. The event was organized by Dr. S. k.
Tiwari, Coordinator NSS.

7. Debate Competition
A debate Competition was organized on this occasion under the guidance of Dr. R. K. Vyas
which got an overwhelming response from students as well as staff.

8. Book Exhibition on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
On the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the Iron Man a Book
Display / Exhibition was organised in the Central Library of the Institute for Two weeks from
31st October to 14
th November, 2014.
During the exhibition about 50 books written on and by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel were
displayed. The main subject areas covered in the books were:
1. National Integration
2. Biography of Sardar Patel
3. Patriotism
4. Partition and India
5. Patel as Great Politician
6. Pragmatism of Sardar Patel
7. Patel as Iron Man
8. Complete works of Sardar Patel
9. Farmers and Labours
10. Decisions taken by Sardar Patel
11. Correspondences of Sardar Patel
12. Economic and Foreign Policy of India etc.
Faculty members, Staff and Students visited the Central Library and referred the displayed
books. The exhibition was covered by Press and media also.
These books will be shelved in the “Pride of India” Section in the Central Library and will be
available for all the readers.

9. Felicitation of participants and Screening a documentary on
Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel
After a day filled with competitions and various events like Run for Unity, Photo Exhibition,
Debate competitions etc. a felicitation program for the participants was held from 6:00 P.M.
onwards in Design Centre Hall, MNIT Jaipur. The Chief Guest for the event was Mr. Arun
Duggar, Retd. DG Police.
At the onset of the Felicitation programme a documentary on the life and contributions of Sardar
Vallabh bhai Patel was screened.
The event started with Dr. Jyoti Joshi, addressing the gathering on the iron willed achievements
of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. She also informed about the details of various events organized
throughout the day. This was followed by Prof. Rohit Goyal,Dean, Planning and Development
and the officiating Director, welcoming and introducing the Chief Guest. After this, the
honorable Chief Guest addressed the audience.
Certificates were awarded to all those students who had participated in various events such as
Run for Unity, Photo Exhibition etc and also to the winners of various competitions organized
during the day.
A documentary on Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel highlighting his role in freedom movement and his
significant contribution to India’s concept of nationhood was also screened at the occasion.
The Felicitation ceremony and screening of a documentary on Sardar vallabh Bhai Patel was
organized by Dr. Jyoti Joshi, Coordinator Creative arts and Cultural Society.
