All welcome—a special welcome to new families. 6 February, 2017 Week 3, Term 1, 2017 FROM THE PRINCIPAL’S DESK: Dear Parents and Friends of Cawdor PS Our term is now well underway and the children are settling well into their new classes. This week we will be asked to confirm our student numbers and hopefully maintain the four classes. Parents are invited to come along next Wednesday evening (15 February) to find out more about the class arrangements and programs for the year—I hope you will be able to join us on the night. The level of parental support at the start of this year has been greatly appreciated and we look forward to seeing many parents at our first P&C meeting this afternoon. Ms Gisela Harter will once again be working with some of our children in Mathematics and Literacy and we are very excited to have her with us again this year. Our first assembly will be held this Wednesday morning at 9.00 am. The new Student Councillors, Sports Captains and Enviro Power members will be presented with their badges at this assembly which will be run by Year 6. This term assemblies will be held fortnightly in the odd weeks and newsletters will also be sent home in the odd weeks. Our swimming carnival with Mount Hunter will take place on Thursday this week and we are looking for parents to help out as officials on the day. Please make sure that the carnival permission notes are returned by Wednesday. Our School Counsellor, Mr Phil Smithers, had his first visit to our school last Friday. He will be at the school every second Friday morning from 8.30 to 12.00 to assist with the welfare of our students. At Cawdor we encourage open communication with parents and carers and the teachers are happy to discuss concerns before and after school unless, for duty of care reasons, the teacher is on duty or the bell has rung. If a longer discussion is required please arrange a time for an interview that is convenient for both yourself and your class teacher. Looking forward to seeing you at our school events and meetings in the next two weeks. Class Arrangements and Information Night

This year we have established four classes and will also have some flexible class arrangements in order to

cater for the needs of the children. The four classes are:

Early Stage 1/Stage 1 Possums Mrs Ashley Forbes

Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) Wallabies Mrs Virginia Napoleone

Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4) Echidnas Mrs Checobi Cocks

Stage 3 (Years 5 and 6) Koalas Ms Sharon Ihlein

From Monday to Thursday there may be some movement of students across classes for literacy and

numeracy groups and Mrs Garbutt will be working with a range of students and groups each Tuesday and

Thursday morning. The teachers will explain more about these arrangements at the Parent Information

evening on Wednesday 15 February. The purpose of this night is to give parents an overview of the

organisation, programs and plans for their child’s class for 2017. The class teachers will be speaking to the

parents for about half an hour at these times:

K /1 Mrs Forbes 6.00 pm

1/2 Mrs Napoleone 6.30 pm

3/4 Mrs Cocks 7.00 pm

5/6 Ms Ihlein 7.30 pm

Tea and coffee will be available in the staffroom.

If you wish to discuss individual matters relating to your child, please make an appointment for an interview

with your child’s teacher.

N otice Board

Uniform Shop

Our Uniform Shop coordinator is Mrs Liz Gould, a volunteer parent who has the role of looking after the uniform

needs of our students. The Uniform shop operates from inside the canteen and is open each Wednesday morning.

Uniform order forms can be obtained from the school office at any time, or downloaded from the school website.

Parents who are unable to come in to the uniform shop to purchase items can complete an order form and return it to

the office where it will then be passed on to the uniform shop. After payment has been received uniform orders can

be sent home with your child.

School Banking

School Banking has resumed for 2017. Our school banking day is THURSDAY each week. Information on how to join

school banking is available from the school office, students can join at any time. Preschoolers are also welcome.

SWIMMING CARNIVAL THIS THURSDAY 9TH FEBRUARY

The combined Mount Hunter and Cawdor Swimming Carnival will be held at Wollondilly Leisure

Centre, Picton commencing at 9.45am and concluding at 2.30pm.

ALL PUPILS IN YEARS 3-6, AND QUALIFYING YEAR 2’s, WILL BE INVOLVED, The

children who do not compete in the formal events have opportunities throughout the day to take

part in novelty events. Permission notes were given to children last week. Please speak to Ms

Ihlein if you have any queries.

In Terms 1 and 4 our school’s policy is “No hat, play in the shade.”

Please ensure that your child wears their school hat each day. As protection from the sun, students without hats will be asked to play under the COLA at recess and lunch time.
